It’S The Broken Record that continues to play despite repeated forewarnings: An influential white man says something racist and sexist, instant public backlash ensues, and swift consequence occurs.

For many years, cancel culture has been despised or misconstrued as a new phenomenon that’s caused havoc on free expression and speech. We’re supposed to now assume that we can’t say or do anything without an angry mob instantly judging us and preparing to end our careers before they start. In actual fact, we are the people who make up the so-called mob, and we have control of our own actions.
Cancel culture has leveled the playing field for those who can’t always rely on the government to protect them.

There was no shortage of memorable moments during the 2023 Grammys, but not all were caught by cameras during the CBS telecast. From Taylor Swift sliding over to Harry Styles table during Steve Lacy’s performance to Beyoncé celebrating with a Champagne toast during commercial break, The Hollywood Reporter was on the scene at the awards ceremony to catch the memorable moments that didn’t make the CBS telecast.
After Beyoncé Makes History, Adele Rushes Over for Hello, Hug and Cheers

Grammys viewers became emotional during Quavo’s tribute performance for his nephew and bandmate Takeoff, who was killed last year.
The young rapper, full name Kirshnik Khari Ball, was shot dead outside a bowling alley in Houston, Texas, on 1 November, 2022.

Accompanied by the gospel collective Maverick City Music, Quavo performed a heartfelt rendition of “Without You” – the song he wrote in the wake of Takeoff’s tragic death – while holding up the slain rapper’s chain.
Quavo co-founded the hip-hop group with his cousin Offset and Takeoff in 2008.

Toy Story star Tim Allen has been mocked for a viral social media post discussing the “face of woke”.
The right-wing actor, who once compared Hollywood liberals to Nazis in 1930s Germany, posted on Twitter on Monday (17 October).
“Who is the face of woke,” Allen wrote. “Do wokees have a club house in someone’s backyard or maybe a cute yet safe playpen somewhere?”
The tweet was subsequently “liked” more than 40,000 times, prompting thousands of replies – many of which were mocking the peculiar phrasing and sentiment of Allen’s post.
“Woke” is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as the state of being “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)”. It is often used perjoritively by those on the political right.
A number of celebrities jumped in to respond to Allen’s tweet, ridiculing both the “face of woke” phrasing and...

Not everyone was laughing as Jimmy Kimmel stayed committed to his 2022 Emmys bit during Quinta Brunson’s acceptance speech.
As presenters of best writing in a comedy series, Will Arnett dragged a seemingly passed-out Kimmel onto the stage, with Arnett quipping to the crowd that this is the “13th time in a row that he’s lost and he just got into the skinny margaritas back there.” When Brunson took the stage to accept the prize for her ABC series Abbott Elementary, which was her first-ever Emmy, Kimmel remained onstage.
Arnett tried to push Kimmel out of the way to make room for the winner, with Brunson telling him, “Jimmy, wake up. I won.” Kimmel gave her a thumbs-up but continued to lie down on the stage throughout the speech, and it wasn’t until after Brunson was done that Arnett dragged him back off.

The first reactions to Jordan Peele’s “Nope” are pouring in as the movie continues its premiere in Los Angeles, earning praises for the director’s turn to science-fiction and drawing comparison to filmmakers like Steven Spielberg.
Expectations are high for “Nope,” given Peele’s emergence as one of the most beloved directors over the last five years. His film debut, “Get Out,” earned four Oscar nominations, including best picture, director for Peele and actor for Kaluuya. Peele won the Academy Award for original screenplay. The film’s 255 million worldwide gross was matched by Peele’s follow-up, “Us,” which was praised by critics and sent fans into spirals of theories and explainers.
Even though he’s built a brand for himself with only two films, Peele assured that he went into “Nope” relatively unfettered by audiences’ expectations of him.

For the first time since the tragic death of “The Wire” star Michael K. Williams in September, his nephew, Dominic Dupont, talks about the devastating moment when he found his uncle’s body on this week’s “Red Table Talk.”
In a clip shared ahead of Wednesday’s episode, which you can watch below, Dupont tells hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Jada’s mother Adrienne Banfield Norris how he decided to check on his uncle after growing concerned because he hadn’t heard from him.
“I went upstairs and opened up his door it was quiet. Michael always played music. That wasn’t the case. I stuck my head in and said, ‘Uncle Mike, are you in here?’ And I observed him… deceased. I immediately called 911 and they said, ‘Do you want to start compressions?’ And I said, ‘I am telling you… he’s deceased. He’s gone.

HBO Max will not remove Woody Allen movies from its streaming platform, despite HBO now airing its four-part documentary series “Allen v. Farrow.” The show examines Dylan Farrow’s accusations of sexual abuse against Woody Allen, which has left many viewers puzzled over how HBO could air the series while also streaming six of Allen’s movies on HBO Max. The Allen movies now available to stream are “Scoop,” “Broadway Danny Rose,” “Shadows and Fog,” “Radio Days,” “Another Woman,” and “September,” five of which star Mia Farrow.
“These titles will remain available in the library to allow viewers to make their own informed decisions about screening the work,” HBO said in a statement to The Wrap.

HBO says that six Woody Allen films available for streaming on HBO Max will remain on the service after some online called out the streamer for hosting those films alongside the new docuseries “Allen v. Farrow.”
“These titles will remain available in the library to allow viewers to make their own informed decisions about screening the work,” HBO said in a statement to TheWrap.
“Allen v. Farrow,” which premiered Sunday on HBO and for streaming on HBO Max, examines Dylan Farrow’s accusations of sexual abuse against her adopted father Allen. Others online then noticed that six films, including five starring Mia Farrow, are all available on the streamer. While the films aren’t prominently displayed or promoted, the films available for streaming through HBO Max for those looking for them are “Scoop,” “Broadway Danny Rose,” “Shadows and Fog,” “Radio Days,” “Another Woman” and “September.”

If your Twitter timeline recently has been dominated by tweets about HBO’s new docu-series “Allen v. Farrow,” you aren’t alone.
The four-part documentary from filmmakers Amy Ziering, Kirby Dick, and Amy Herdy examines what happened when 7-year-old Dylan Farrow, the daughter of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, accused her father of sexually abusing her in 1992. The saga has provoked fiery debates for nearly 30 years.
“Allen v. Farrow,” which premiered Feb. 21 and will air subsequent episodes over the next three weeks, aims to take a new look at the allegations and their aftermath. The story is told in part through never-before-seen home movies from Mia Farrow, as well as phone calls she recorded between her and Allen in the lead-up to the 1993 custody trial in which Mia Farrow prevailed.

Tributes from across Hollywood have poured in for late actress Natalie Desselle Reid, who lost a battle to colon cancer on Monday at the age of 53. She was known for starring opposite Halle Berry in the 1997 comedy “B*A*P*S,” and for her prominent roles in Tyler Perry’s “Madea’s Big Happy Family” and the TV series “Eve.”
Berry herself was among the mourners on Monday, sharing a Gif of her and Reid hugging in “B*A*P*S” and writing that she was “completely heartbroken” and in “total shock.” A few days earlier, on Dec. 3, Berry had posted a throwback video from the film.

Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez was all apologies Tuesday afternoon after an Instagram post showing her singing a lyric with the N-word sparked a social media backlash.
The offending post, which has since been deleted, showed Rodriguez in a make-up chair and passing the time by vamping and singing along to the Fugees track Ready or Not from 1996.

If Kanye West hadn't fired manager Scooter Braun, Scooter would probably have banned him from social media. The rap star controversially tweeted about his love for Donald Trump on April 25, leading even family members such as Kylie Jenner and Khloé Kardashian to unfollow him.
