Warner Bros. and producer Akiva Goldsman‘s company Weed Road are working on a sequel to director Francis Lawrence’s 2007 Richard Matheson adaptation I Am Legend (watch it Here), which will see Will Smith reprising the role of Dr. Robert Neville, now joined in the cast by an unspecified character played by Michael B. Jordan. Lawrence has said he would “love to” return to the direct the sequel… which is made possible because there were two different endings filmed for I Am Legend. The version of I Am Legend that reached theatres ended with Neville sacrificing himself (using a grenade to blow up himself and the attacking “Darkseeker” creatures) to protect other characters. But that ending was actually a reshoot. The original ending was more low-key, with Neville making peace with the Darkseekers after realizing that he was the monster in the eyes of these creatures. That alternate ending was...

When “Extra” interviewed Harrison Ford at his “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” premiere in June, the show was proceeding as usual: The actor, the reporter, the branded microphone, the cameras. Then suddenly everything changed — “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan bounded into the frame and reunited with his co-star from 1984’s “Temple of Doom.” The moment went viral, and “Extra” had another feather in its cap.
Once in a lifetime get? Not if you’re “Extra.” For the past 30 years, the syndicated entertainment news show has made its business chronicling every cultural event. There is the episode with Burt Reynolds, shot in the studio parking lot following a blackout; segments featuring a 19-year-old Taylor Swift singing; and a young Kim Kardashian vacuuming her family’s store. More recently, the show can point to host Billy Bush — who jumped time zones in a day to go...

Writers and actors aren’t the only people in Hollywood grappling with the impact generative artificial intelligence will have on the entertainment industry. Documentarians are also concerned about AI and what it means for the ethical standards and practices of nonfiction filmmaking.
Many have used AI to transcribe interviews in the past few years and in recent months generative-ai models including ChatGPT and Midjourney have helped docu assistant editors create spreadsheets and visual placeholders as well as extract and catalogue metadata. But recent advancements in AI, such as the ability to generate fake photographs and only needing three seconds of someone’s voice to create synthesized audio of that person saying anything, have filmmakers like Dawn Porter (“The ‘Lady Bird Diaries”) worried.
“We are supposed to be the truth, and it might be the truth as we see it, but we are also supposed to be transparent,” says Porter. “I...

With his long-in-development passion project Pinocchio now out in the world, director Guillermo del Toro has set his next stop-motion animation: an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2015 novel The Buried Giant. Currently in the process of co-writing the script with Dennis Kelly (Matilda: The Musical), the director tells The Telegraph that they’ll begin the design process in two months for the story of an elderly couple who live in a world with no long-term memories. When they faintly recall they may have had a son many years earlier, they go on an adventure to seek him out.
“Animation has given us so many indelible images over the years, but in many ways the industry wants to keep it at the children’s table. So I want to keep pushing the medium into areas that demonstrate its capacity” said del Toro. First up, he’ll helm a yet-to-be-announced live-action feature,...

Piers Morgan has called out the BBC’s coverage of the Qatar World Cup opening ceremony.
Those tuning into watch the event on Sunday (20 November) instead found Gary Lineker delivering an opening monologue, in which he criticised the host country’s treatment of migrant workers as well as its record on human rights.
Ahead of the first match, which was between Qatar and Ecuador, Lineker explained why the World Cup had become “the most controversial in history”.
Instead of showing events from the opening ceremony, which included a divisive cameo from Morgan Freeman, Lineker presented a segment that highlighted the allegations of corruption behind Fifa’s decision to let the country host the tournament.
He then led his fellow pundits Alex Scott, Ashley Williams and Alan Shearer in a discussion regarding workers rights and the country’s discriminatory laws against the LGBTQ+ community.
