Quiver Distr. has revealed the official trailer for an indie drama titled A Bit of Light, which is finally set for US release this spring after originally debuting back in 2022. The film premiered at the 2022 Raindance Film Festival, and it also played at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in early 2023. It's the second feature directed by British actor Stephen Moyer, following The Parting Glass previously. Anna Paquin stars as Ella, who at almost forty, is forced to move back in with her father Alan. She's trying to stay sober having temporarily given up custody of her young daughters to her ex-husband Joseph and his new partner Bethan. Exclusive: Quiver Distribution has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to A Bit of Light, the second feature helmed by Stephen Moyer, on the heels of 2018 family drama The Parting Glass. Starring Moyer’s wife, True Blood co-star and Emmy and Oscar-winner Anna Paquin, as well as Ray Winstone (The Departed), the film is an adaptation by Rebecca Callard of her Bruntwood Prize-winning play of the same name. It’s slated for release in select theaters across the country, as well as on VOD and digital on April 5.

Exclusive: A black comedy crime script has won this year’s Nfts Popcorn Award, which is arranged by the UK’s National Film and Television School and London-based production company, Popcorn Group (She Will).
Bethan Moore’s script The Widow Making Syndicate follows the story of Zsofia Kovacs who was tried for the murder of 49 men in her Hungarian village, Nagyrev, in the early 20th century. Though fictional, the story is based on the true-life events of the Angel Makers of Nagyrev, who poisoned between 50 and 300 men over a period of 15 years from 1914 – 1929.
The award was established to “champion stories with strong identities looking to shape social discourse in a thought-provoking and, importantly, entertaining way”.
The award is only open to Nfts writing students and includes a cash prize of £2,500 and the option of a development deal with Popcorn Group.

Netflix’s 14 Peaks producer Noah Media Group has boarded a documentary on cult Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh and will shop the show at Mipcom Cannes next week. I Am Irvine Welsh, from Ls Films, followed a year in the life of the Scottish auteur as he adapted Trainspotting into a West End musical, published a new novel, launched a record label and worked on two TV series. The doc reflects on a remarkable life after Welsh was propelled into the spotlight when Trainspotting became a cult classic, starring Ewan McGregor, and he has since been prolific across literature, screenwriting and music.
