Will the Oscars ever get their heads out of their asses? Last year, horror fans were quite upset when Mia Goth’s performance in Pearl was passed over for the majority of Mainstream Awards, primarily the Academy Awards. People were shouting from every corner of social media, claiming that Goth was robbed. And watch this scene without thinking she deserves some kind of accolade. She’s phenomenal. Yet I wasn’t surprised by Goth’s snub because the Academy never respects horror. And personally, it was never more evident than when the best performance of the year wasn’t nominated. I’m, of course, talking about Toni Collette in Hereditary.
Ari Aster’s 2018 modern classic makes for a tough watch. This woman is an absolute fucking force in this film. The dinner scene alone should have been enough to garner attention. But her reaction to what happened to Charlie is...

Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons has joined Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in Juror No. 2, the legal thriller Clint Eastwood is directing for Warner Bros.
Shooting is currently underway in Atlanta.
In addition to Hoult and Collette, Gabriel Basso, Zoey Deutch, Leslie Bibb, Chris Messina and Kiefer Sutherland are on the call sheet.
Per the studio’s official logline, the script by Jonathan Abrams follows family man Justin Kemp (Hoult) who, while serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma … one he could use to sway the jury verdict to potentially convict — or free — the wrong killer.
Simmons will play one of the jurors.
Collette is playing the prosecutor, Basso the accused, and Messina the public defender. Deutch is playing Hoult’s wife, while Sutherland is the lead’s AA sponsor.
On top of directing, Eastwood is producing via his production company Malpaso.

Things have certainly gotten interesting recently with the Summer box office. Usually, we’d be talking about the records being broken by the superhero franchises or the big action-adventure “tentpoles”. Then a big switch happened last weekend when the first two spots in the weekly Bo “Top Tens” were animated features. Studio wisdom was the notion that animated flicks would “cancel each other out” hurting the ticket sales on both. Nope, not this time, though the rapid downhill trajectory of a certain scarlet speedster aided their performance. Could this brand-new animated feature snag a spot in the top five with the other two holdovers? Mind you, that globetrotting archeologist will crack his bullwhip into the upper slots on the roster. However, families may want to return to the sea after that recent Disney live-action remake and dive into the adventures of another mythical nautical being, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.
