The games of Hidetaka Miyazaki are unique experiences that will take players through not only grand and awe-inspiring locations but also those that embody the sentiments of darkness and decay. His worlds are not ones for the faint of heart, with danger around every corner and death your constant companion.
FromSoftware has mastered the art of creating such worlds, and the studio wears its inspirations on its sleeve. Berserk, one of the most well-known pieces of Japanese media from the mind of Kentaro Miura, is heavily referenced in all of Miyazaki’s games and the same is true for the Dlc.

Almost every mangaka tends to create a specific quality in their protagonists that draws parallels between the main character and the mangaka. However, this was not the case with Kentaro Miura and his masterpiece, Berserk. Miura, once in an interview, revealed that the character that replicated him the most was Pippin.
Guts in Berserk manga | Studio Gaga
Pippin was one of the members of the Band of Falcons who helped Guts escape. He did not speak much, but whenever he did, it would either be a serious discussion or to offer some advice. Pippin had a good relationship with Guts in the series, and the two were called the power duo of Berserk.
According to Miura, when he planned Berserk, he initially thought of only five characters for the series and all of them were based on his friends. However, there were no Guts, Griffith, or Casca in his friend circle,...

Berserk fans are well-versed in the dark and goth elements of the series, which makes Kentaro Miura’s magnum opus one of the best Seinen manga of all time. Death, torture, monsters, ghosts, etc. are all part of the series, and they not only make the series scary but also keep the narrative intriguing for the fans.

Miura’s love for horror and fantasy comes from a legend in the field: Tim Burton. The American director is famous all over the world for his horror movies. Kentaro Miura’s passing left a big hole in the anime and manga industry alongside an unfinished masterpiece in the form of Berserk. Kouji Mori, who also happens to be the late mangaka’s best friend decided to helm on the project in honor of him. The series has some of the most captivating art and storytelling. Nothing was ever as mesmerizing as that of Miura’s art and the stories he told through the series.

However, because of the 2016 adaptation, the series hasn’t had the best luck when it comes to anime. That is not its end. On the contrary, many wanted to pick up where Miura left off. Some are in the form of an anime while others with the resources of continuing the manga. Leaving his legacy unfinished was not an option and that was something Kouji Mori understood perfectly.

Kentaro Miura’s Berserk has remained on top of the psychological gore genre for years. Miura himself might not be amongst us, but he has left a legacy for other mangakas.
Berserk has always hit the sweet spot of dark fantasy lovers, and more so because it is not like a typical Shonen series. It is distinct from manga like Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Naruto and is more realistic. In a past interview, Miura revealed how his series avoided a common Shonen cliche.

Berserk is the one anime and manga that holds great importance both in terms of its story and also the emotions that come with it. Kento Miura’s untimely passing led to an abrupt stop to his entire fanbase. The shocked state they found themselves in also included the legacy he left behind. One that needed completion, closure, and justice at the same time.

Seeing that the anime found its ending with no further updates, there was a majority of fans who were left wanting more. The manga in itself is finding a slow-paced continuation; one that everyone is patient with. However, the same cannot be said for the anime itself. That was until a fan-grouped animation studio took it upon themselves to carry on Miura’s legacy.

However, it is because of the sword’s massive size that Guts can use it to slay the apostles of God. Every fallen apostle adds to the sword’s strength, making it more and more effective every kill. Let’s say that Dragon Slayer is no less popular than Guts himself.
So, indeed it should be surprising for Berserk fans to know that Miura might not like Gut’s sword as much as everyone else.

"Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" has been a pleasant surprise. Here is a movie tie-in show that succeeds at telling a compelling standalone story, all while also expanding on its source material in ways that make the Monsterverse movies better.
The show focuses on Cate and Kentaro Randa, two people who discover they are half-siblings and their father had two families, each previously unaware of the other's existence. The rest of the season deals with the fallout of this discovery, as each struggles with their daddy issues while bonding with their newfound sibling. Where the Monsterverse movies have struggled with making us care about the non-kaiju characters, 2023 was a great year for humans. "Godzilla Minus One" gave us a fantastic human story of redemption, and now "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" is giving us some heartfelt human drama.
Meanwhile, the show has been using the mystery box formula to slowly unravel the secrets of Monarch,...

"Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" is the best kind of TV show belonging to a cinematic universe. It works as a fantastic series in its own right, one with a compelling mystery box, cool and memorable characters you genuinely want to follow even when the monsters aren't around, and visuals that match the main movies.
Perhaps most importantly as part of a cinematic universe, "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" ties into the larger MonsterVerse without making either the series or the movies feel like chores. Watching the show enriches the movies and vice versa, but one is not necessary to watch the other.
The show takes place on two timelines. It tells us the origins of the mysterious organization Monarch, and it's also a story of a woman and her newfound half-brother in the aftermath of Godzilla's first reappearance trying to piece together how their father is involved with the organization.

This article contains spoilers for "Gen V" episode 6.
Part of the reason Prime Video's "The Boys" has been acclaimed is the ways it has adapted its source material, a satirical superhero gore-fest by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The comic has its moments of pathos, but it's mostly just a vile splatterfest. There's so much bad taste abound in the 72 issues that it often makes you wish your brain could spit it out.
"The Boys" TV series (developed by Eric Kripke) keeps the violence and dark humor, but it sharpens the comic's genre critique while updating it for modern politics. The superheroes of "The Boys" are still stand-ins for the rot of corporate America and celebrity culture. However, the TV show explores its characters with more sincerity (take the musical scene in episode 5). Kripke's "The Boys" doesn't laugh at its characters (at least not the leads) in the same way that Ennis' does.

“I Am What I Am” is the third feature film for Shinya Tamada, a director with lots of experience in theatre and television dramas, and it is also the third film – after “The Nighthawk's First Love” (Yuka Yasukawa, 2021) and “Grown-ups” (Takuya Kato, 2022) – of the project “(Not) Heroine Movies”, initiated by Nagoya Broadcasting Network with the intent of subverting the stereotypical female roles in films. In this case the cliché to subvert is the classic romantic dramedy.
“I Am What I Am” is screening at Helsinky Cine Aasia
The film's opening introduces us immediately to the complicated universe of protagonist Kasumi (Toko Miura) and all things that bother her. It's a night out with co-workers of a call center and the two guys cannot stop talking and asking the girls about romantic attraction, taste in boys and so on. Kasumi appears very reluctant and embarrassed, to the point that she soon...
