The Art Directors Guild has announced that Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will receive the esteemed William Cameron Menzies Award for his striking visuals and emotionally rich portfolio, cumulating in his latest film, “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.”
Del Toro will receive the award on Feb. 18 at the 27th Annual Art Directors Guild ceremony at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.
The award recognizes individuals’ service to the entertainment industry through distinguished contributions to motion pictures or TV. Past honorees include Robert Osborne, John Musker and Ron Clements, Syd Mead and Denis Villeneuve.
“Guillermo del Toro has stunningly brought humanity to non-human characters and full-fledged existence to environments which could be seen as devoid of life by integrating strong narrative imagery into his collaborations with production designers,” remarked Nelson Coates, Adg president. “The Art Directors Guild is thrilled to celebrate his captivating work, which has indelibly pushed the bounds of production design to new heights.

Dana Aliya Levinson in Fraud
A short film which is getting a lot of traction and will be screening at this year’s Outfest Los Angeles, Fraud is a neatly condensed, stylish crime drama, directed by Zen Pace, which follows a trans woman, Shira (Dana Aliya Levinson), who works as a singer but makes her real money on the side by scamming credit cards. When one night she has an amorous encounter with handsome stranger André (Babak Tafti), who has secrets of his own, it results in a surprising proposition. Dana wrote the script herself and was keen to discuss it.
“The short film is based on a pilot that I wrote with the same name,” she explains. It's a one hour drama, and it was inspired by an actual day I had. I grew up in a family with a lot of financial instability and I was working at a bar and saving up.

"What are you even doing here? At least I belong here." Wolfe Video has debuted an official Us trailer for an indie coming-of-age film, a "comedy of errors about mistaken gender identity", titled Adam. This initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (not to be confused with the other coming-of-age romance also titled Adam from Sundance 2009 about a guy with Autism). This Adam is the feature directorial debut of Rhys Ernst, a producer on the "Transparent" series, and producer / director of "This Is Me". The film tells the story of an awkward teenage boy who pretends he's a trans man in order to date a lesbian girl he has feelings for, which is a bit odd. Nicholas Alexander stars, along with Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Margaret Qualley, Leo Sheng, Chloë Levine, Colton Ryan, Dana Aliya Levinson, and Alisha B. Woods. I haven't seen the film yet, so I can't comment,...
