One Michael Jackson song seems to be about a regular friendship. It’s actually about a friendship with a killer rat. Jackson revealed how this tune came together so fast, even though he struggled with a lot of self-doubt.
1 Michael Jackson song was the theme for a horror film
Listen to any of Jackson’s songs, and it’s clear he put lots of effort into his music. Even when he didn’t write or produce his music, his voice was impeccable. All these years later, he rhymes one of pop music’s best singers.
During a 1980 interview posted to Blank on Blank, Jackson said he was a perfectionist, but that didn’t mean he always worked slowly. “I do vocals pretty quick,” he explained. “But for instance ‘Ben,’ I did in one take. I went right in and cut it.” For context, “Ben” is a ballad about a killer...

Anime has a unique way of portraying characters in all their diverse facets, from valiant heroes to cunning tricksters. Among these, there exists a niche group of characters who have a penchant for gambling. Whether it’s high-stakes card games or strategic wagers, these anime characters are drawn to the thrill of taking risks and testing their luck. Let’s delve deeper into the lives of some of the most famous anime characters who love to bet.
Usopp – One Piece
Usopp, known as the marksman among the Straw Hat Pirates in “One Piece,” might not fit the typical gambler mold. Still, his knack for weaving elaborate stories and embracing uncertainty secures his spot among these characters. Usopp’s exaggerated stories often involve bets and challenges that push the limits of believability, showcasing his fearless spirit and love for adventure. Whether facing off against opponents or navigating the treacherous seas, Usopp...

Les Blank’s ‘Burden of Dreams’ Sees Werner Herzog Try to Push a 320-Ton Ship Up a Hill in the Jungle
On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: Can Documentaries Make for Great Midnight Movies?
American documentaries are facing headwinds in awards. It’s not my area of expertise. But Anne Thompson’s predictions for the Best Documentary Feature race ahead of the 96th Oscars on Sunday explain the situation well.
“With the international membership now representing more than 20 percent of the total voters, this year all five documentary nominees were international,” Thompson wrote, tying the trend to numerous non-fiction films left without distributors at Sundance.

Forget Batman, forget the X-Men. The greatest rogues gallery in comics history belongs to Spider-Man. So great are his baddies that Sony continues to spend millions of dollars to launch a cinematic universe around them. And while Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Venom continue to get most of the attention, even B-level guys like the Spot have been elevated to big bads.
But let’s be honest, even Spider-Man comics have a few duds when it comes to bad guys. Even if we took out the horrendous mess that was the Clone Saga (and we aren’t going to take it out), Spider-Man would still have too many losers and redundant villains to count. So, here are the absolute worst of the worst in Spider-Man’s villain roster, characters so dull that they aren’t good for much besides getting killed in a crossover event.

Combining two popular themes, an author struggling with writer’s block and AI run amuck, Blank is the story of Claire Rivers who can’t seem to put words on paper even as the bills pile up and the calls from her agent become more frantic. Finally, facing a one month deadline to either produce a book or lose her publishing deal she decides to spend that time at The Retreat, a high tech facility for the creatively blocked.
Her room comes complete with a holographic concierge named Henry and Rita an android assistant. There’s also a weird little device for Claire to attach to her head in order to stimulate her creativity. It doesn’t seem to help though as we mostly see her drinking wine and falling asleep in front of the TV.

A new British sci-fi thriller is coming to screens in January – and we’ve got the trailer for Blank right here.
It’s tough being an independent in the current marketplace, especially so if you’re trying to cut through with a science fiction project. We’ve seen Gareth Edwards’ The Creator – off the back of strong reviews – fall short of Disney’s box office hopes, and thus put science fiction back under the microscope.
Lots of bonus points therefore to director Natalie Kennedy, who has put the finishing touches to her science fiction thriller, Blank. This is a British production, starring Rachel Shelley, Heida Reed and Wayne Brady.
The script has come from Stephen Herman, whilst Rebecca Clare-Evans has produced. And now we hear that the film will arrive on January 8th 2024. It’s going to digital download services, and we’ve got a trailer and a synopsis.

There’s some inspired direction as Misery meets Ex Machina in this sci-fi psychological thriller
In what has the distinctively zoned-out vibe of another lockdown-born project, Natalie Kennedy’s sci-fi psychological thriller sees Clare Rivers (Rachel Shelley), an author with writer’s block, sign up for a deluxe writing retreat operated entirely by AI. Sealed hermetically into her unit by a virus that corrupts the system, she can’t leave until she has produced a book, making Blank play out like Misery and Ex Machina spliced.
Taking place in a near future where writing is all holographic word processors and genial AI assistants rather than tattered notebooks and half-eaten Twixes, the profession seems to have moved on. Or perhaps not: Clare’s blockage is aggravated by being locked in with only a malfunctioning amnesiac android called Rita (Heida Reed) for company. Reset every day and refusing to open the external...

Actor Erik Jensen, who’s known for roles on “The Walking Dead” and “Mr. Robot,” revealed in a recent GoFundMe page that he is battling Stage 4 cancer. The page, started Oct. 18 by Jessica Blank, asks for help with his medical bills.
“After miraculously surviving a brain aneurysm just a year and a half ago, our beloved Erik Jensen was just diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer,” the fundraiser by Blank reads.
Blank wrote,”Erik and his family are in for the fight of their lives, and they need your support,” adding that the diagnosis is not necessarily “a death sentence.”
The cancer has reportedly metastasized to the actor’s liver, but “his doctors have a shot at shrinking the tumors enough to do two very major surgeries and get them all out,” according to Blank. So far, more than $97,000 has been raised towards a goal of $300,000.

Many musicians have praised John Lennon for shaping their careers, but Todd Rundgren is not among them. After Rundgren made some less-than-flattering remarks about the former Beatle in an interview, Lennon lashed out. In a scathingly hilarious open letter, Lennon addressed Rundgren’s problems with him.
John Lennon wrote an open letter to Todd Rundgren
In 1974, Rundgren met Lennon at the Troubadour Club in Los Angeles. Lennon was in the middle of his drunken “lost weekend” — the 18-month period during which he was separated from Yoko Ono — and did not make the best impression. Several months later, Rundgren addressed their meeting and the lingering bad feeling it left him in an interview with Melody Maker.
“John Lennon ain’t no revolutionary,” Rundgren said, per the book The John Lennon Letters. “He’s a f***ing idiot.”
It didn’t take long for Lennon to discover the interview and respond to Rundgren.

The board of directors at AMC Networks have unveiled the 2022 compensation packages paid out to its leadership team after surprise executive suite turmoil at the company that operates such cable networks as AMC, IFC and Sundance TV.
Former CEO, COO and CFO Christina Spade received a total pay package of $21.3 million last year, AMC Networks revealed in an SEC filing issued on Friday. Spade was promoted to CEO from Sept. 9, 2022, only to abruptly step down from the job on Nov. 28, 2022.

Spade’s latest employment agreement was set to run through the end of 2025 and stipulated she was eligible to receive a severance payment of more than $10 million, in addition to benefits associated with restricted stock and other awards.

Creators who opt for a Reserve deal will be paired with a Creative Juice team member.

Aftershock (Tonya Lewis Lee and Paula Eiselt)
A work of deep pain and fervent justice, Tonya Lewis Lee and Paula Eiselt’s Sundance winner Aftershock examines the failings of maternal health support particularly as it relates to Black mothers. Centering on two NYC families forever torn apart after maternal deaths due to childbirth-related complications, the film takes an intimate look at the widowers and family left behind as they pick up the pieces to fight for change in a prejudiced system. Amongst its most interesting passages, the filmmakers also go back decades and beyond, filling in the historical foundation for how we ended up with our current, faltering maternal health system and setting the stage for how it can be changed.
