The Good Doctor’s 7-season-long television run was officially wrapped up on May 21 when the final episode hit the screens, and fans were indeed left on a very emotional note with the show’s heart-shattering plot twists.
Despite the shocking turn of events shown in the series’ last episodes, the finale kept sticking to Shaun Murphy’s unconditional commitment to his vocation instead of turning to the character’s personal dilemmas.
Though it still was a right thing to opt for, The Good Doctor’s creators initially had a completely different idea for the show’s ending, eventually cramming it into the storyline, just a bit earlier.

The Good Doctor did the best it could with its last-minute series finale.
Surprisingly, it was a bittersweet farewell that reminded viewers of the impression Shaun made on the staff and patients of St. Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital when he arrived during the series premiere.
At the beginning of Tuesday’s final installment, Shaun was reeling from the news that Glassman had just months to live and opted to split his team between finding a cure and simultaneously trying to find a way to save Claire.
Shaun vocalized the importance of saving Glassman, who was resigned to the fact that he had months to live and believed spending it with Shaun, Lea, and Steve was worth it.
Shaun’s best plan would have meant Glassman would have been in and out of surgery, giving him a year at best, which the Chief of Surgery didn’t believe was worthwhile when...

The revolving door at The Good Doctor continues to spin in its final season.
Original star Antonia Thomas has closed a deal to return as Dr. Claire Brown.
The deal is for two episodes, including the hit medical drama’s series finale.
Thomas was an original star but left as a series regular following The Good Doctor Season 4 and has returned for guest spots since.
It’s always nice when former stars return to give long-running shows a sendoff, and The Good Doctor hasn’t been the same since Thomas’ big exit.
Sadly, the once-hot series quickly lost too many cast members, and the show struggled to bounce back creatively.
It’s probably a big reason viewers started tuning out, which triggered ABC’s decision to cancel the show with its seventh season.

Freeform has put into development the country-music drama “East Nasty,” from “Mixed-ish” showrunner Karin Gist and writer Jamie Rosengard.
Inspired by the real-life community of East Nashville, where an “antiestablishment, vibrant music scene is pushing to redefine what country music looks and sounds like,” the show centers on two best friends — one a black, queer singer-songwriter, and one a seemingly tailor-made country musician from a deeply religious family.
Per Freeform, “Though they don’t fit the face or sound of conservative country music, they will fight to lend their unique voices to a genre steeped in tradition and history.”

Rosengard will write and executive produce the project alongside Gist and her producing partner Claire Brown. “Where’d You Go Bernadette” producer Ginger Sledge and music industry veteran Paula Kay Hornick will also serve as EPs on the potential series.
