In space, Victor Glover orbited the Earth every 90 minutes, witnessing 16 sunrises and sunsets in a single day. In America, Victor Glover got behind the wheel of his car and knew that, as a Black man, he might be pulled over by police.
“You still have to drive home from work and be worried about a busted tail light stop,” he recalls of his early years training to be astronaut. “I am the son of a police officer so I knew all those tactics. I’ve been pulled over. I had police officers harass and I would give them my ID and they’d be like, ‘Oh, this is Victor Glover’s kid,’ and then I got treated differently.

Eight years after the film “Hidden Figures” brought the work of three Black women NASA mathematicians to mass audiences, National Geographic will debut a documentary film “The Space Race: The Untold Story of the First Black Astronauts.” Featuring interviews with former test pilot Ed Dwight, NASA astronauts Victor Glover, Leland Melvin and more, “The Space Race” reveals the boundary-defying work of these men who dreamed of reaching the stars as Americans struggled for equality at home on solid ground. The film chronicles over 50 years of this history, up to 2020 and the news about George Floyd’s murder reaching the International Space Station.
The new film documents the discrimination these men faced in achieving their goals. In a trailer for the movie, NASA astronaut and former administrator Charlie Bolden remembers how amazed he was at America’s space program, but “growing up in the Jim Crow South, you knew what you...

Washington, May 19 (Ians) Even as NASA prepares to establish a long-term presence at the Moon for science and exploration after a span of 50 years, the agency is looking to start training the astronauts who will fly on Artemis II flight in June.
NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Hammock Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen will complete their training over the course of about 18-months before their 10-day mission.
They will receive detailed lessons on Orion spacecraft and Sls (Space Launch System) rocket systems, and learn to operate and monitor systems for the ascent, orbit and coast, and entry phases of the mission, and how to respond in emergency situations.
“The crew of our Artemis II test flight will pave the way for the incredible science at the forefront of all of our future crewed missions,” said NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, in a statement.

Washington, March 1 (Ians) In the third spacewalk of the year outside the International Space Station, NASA astronauts Kate Rubins and Victor Glover concluded their spacewalk after 7 hours and 4 minutes.
The two NASA astronauts began work on Monday to install modification kits required for the upcoming solar array upgrades, the US space agency said in a blog post.
The duo worked near the farthest set of existing solar arrays on the station's left side, known as P6.
Glover built a bracket structure and worked with Rubins to attach the bracket and support struts to the mast canister, the base, of one of the P6 solar arrays, known as 2B.
One of the bolts did not fully engage on the first attempt, so Rubins used a power drill to back it out and reseat it, then used a ratchet wrench to tighten the bolt, reaching a safe configuration.

Washington, Dec 6 (Ians) A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday, carrying the uncrewed cargo Dragon spacecraft on its journey to the International Space Station for NASA and SpaceXs 21st commercial mission.
The upgraded Dragon spacecraft successfully separated from the Falcon 9 rocket's second stage, as the spacecraft continued its journey to the Iss to deliver critical supplies, equipment, and material to support multiple science and research and experiments that will take place aboard the space station.
Dragon was slated to arrive at the orbiting laboratory on Monday, NASA said in a statement.
It will autonomously dock to the station's Harmony module – the first automated docking for a SpaceX cargo resupply mission – while NASA astronauts and Expedition 64 Flight Engineers Kate Rubins and Victor Glover monitor docking operations.
