In recent years they have expanded into TV, but in 2024, for the first time, they are holding a separate awards show dedicated to the best new television programs of the year. Scroll down for the complete list of inaugural nominees. Winners will be presented on Tuesday, June 4, in New York City.

Bob Iger recently discussed how the MCU is cutting back on its creative work. He mentioned that fans can look forward to about 2 or 3 movies a year and 2 shows. That’s much less than what was initially planned and what we’re used to.
Right now, there are over 30 MCU projects rumored or confirmed to be in the works. But, as Brad Winderbaum recently mentioned, not all of them will actually get made and released.
Recently, rumors have been circulating, sparked by the scooper and leaker MyTimeToShineHello, suggesting that Donald Glover is being considered for a writing role.
The leaker didn’t specify which project the studio is eyeing Glover for, but he does have ties to Disney and Marvel.

Bob Iger recently talked about MCU downsizing its creative input. He said that fans can expect roughly 2 or three films a year and 2 shows. Which is significantly less than what was originally planned and what we’re used to seeing.
MCU currently has over 30 projects either rumored or confirmed to be in development. But as Brad Winderbaum recently pointed out, that doesn’t mean that all of them will make it into production and ultimately be released.
Still, the most recent rumors started by scooper & leaker MyTimeToShineHello, point in the direction of Donald Glover being eyed to serve as a writer.

There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan in terms of quantity. There’s more Star Wars on screen and on the page now than ever before in the franchise’s history. From Disney+ series to video games to The High Republic books and Marvel comics, you can experience new adventures in the galaxy far, far away pretty much any way you want it right now. If Lucasfilm were able to get some movies off the ground, we’d be able to say that the franchise is firing on all cylinders.
Whether or not we finally do get some new Star Wars on the big screen in the years to come, the future of the franchise is still very bright, thanks to TV series like The Mandalorian, which has already expanded across multiple spinoffs full of Original Trilogy nostalgia and exciting new characters. In fact,...

On the latest episode of his podcast Wild Ride!, Steve-o said he turned down appearing on Bill Maher’s podcast because the Club Random host refused to not smoke weed during their chat.
Steve-o — whose real name is Stephen Glover — asked conservative commentator Patrick Bet-David, who appeared on Club Random recently, about his experience with Maher, particularly about how he felt about the TV personality smoking weed in the room.
While Bet-David didn’t appear to have an issue with it, Glover noted that he brought it up because Maher didn’t respect his wishes as a former addict to have a sober environment.
“For me, I’m a clean and sober guy. It’s very important that I maintain my sobriety,” said Glover. “I’m about to be sweet 16 [years sober], coming up on it. Really, there’s nothing I value more than my sobriety. There’s nothing more that I protect than my recovery.

Billy Dee Williams, who originated the role of Lando Calrissian in the “Star Wars” franchise, spoke to Radio Times about Donald Glover’s portrayal of the smooth-talking smuggler turned rebel hero.
“I had a nice little lunch with him. He’s a delightful young man. Extremely talented,” Williams said. “But I don’t see him… I mean, when it comes to Lando Calrissian there’s only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character.”
Williams also shared the only advice he gave Glover about playing Lando: “I told him to be charming – two words! That’s all I needed to tell him. That’s all I could think of.”
Glover made his debut as a young Lando in the 2018 “Star Wars” prequel “Solo.” A Lando Calrissian limited series for Disney+ was first announced in 2020, with “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien attached to the project. News then broke in July 2023 that...

As IndieWire’s Ben Travers’ noted in his review of Prime Video’s latest original, “This isn’t your parents’ ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith.'”
The Prime Video series starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine shares a title with Simon Kinberg’s 2005 film, but similarities mostly stop there. Francesca Sloane, who co-created the series with Glover, told IndieWire that they “didn’t really consider the movie very much at all.”
“This is without any shade on the movie — I think the movie is really fun, and does what it’s supposed to do for that kind of film,” she said. “We just wanted to tell a story that felt satisfying to us. We wanted to tell a love story about people who might actually be incompatible, and then see why they want to work through that anyway — first because of circumstance and then by choice — and then have that go...

21 Savage has unveiled the trailer for his upcoming biopic, titled American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, in which Donald Glover and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin will both play the rapper. Watch it below.
According to a press release, the clip shows three generations of 21 Savage “in the heat of a personal crisis” while doubling as a music video for a brand new song from the artist.
American Dream will cover 21’s infamous 2018 arrest by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), which revealed that he was actually born in the UK before moving to Atlanta and making his name there as a rapper.
At the time, 21 Savage’s lawyer said he “never hid his immigration status from the US government.” During an interview with Good Morning America, 21 noted that his arrest came shortly after he criticized Trump’s extreme immigration policies with his song “a lot.”

Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane are bringing Mr and Mrs Smith to the small screen, here’s the trailer.
2005 was a good year for action films. Jet Li gave one of his greatest performances opposite Bob Hoskins in Unleashed and Christopher Nolan kicked of his iconic trilogy with Batman Begins.
Another hugely successful film that year was Mr And Mrs Smith. It saw Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play a married couple who, unbeknownst to each other, are both world class assassins. The film originally cast Nicole Kidman to star opposite Pitt, but scheduling conflicts with The Stepford Wives meant she had to drop out.
Doug Liman directed the film from a screenplay by Simon Kinberg, and while it is by no means perfect, it remains a hugely enjoyable, rollicking ride.
Now, Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane have brought the story to the small screen.

Donald Glover knows why “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” is an “iconic” film, but beyond Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s palpable chemistry (and later marriage), the “Atlanta” creator didn’t get the appeal of the story.
The 2005 movie stars Pitt and Jolie as two spies who get married, without knowing the other is also a secret agent. Things go south once both of them are instructed to kill the other.
Glover is reimagining the property for an eight-episode Prime Video series that he co-created with Francesca Sloane; Glover stars alongside Maya Erskine as the titular couple who are in fact two strangers assigned by their spy agency to go undercover posing as a married duo.
“I had never seen the movie, which I know was sacrilege,” Glover told Entertainment Weekly before a producer friend of his acquired the rights. “I watched it and honestly, I was like, ‘I don’t understand it.

“Haunted Mansion” director Justin Simien has still not heard from Disney about Donald Glover and Stephen Glover replacing him as writer on their streaming “Star Wars” series-turned-movie, “Lando.”

He added that he did get “an appraisal of the script I wrote,” but the studio has otherwise not been in touch.

Guillermo del Toro almost entered a galaxy far, far away by helming a “Star Wars” film.

What have we here? Just more news about the long-gestating “Star Wars” project focused on the galaxy far, far away’s favorite rapscallion, Lando Calrissian. According to Stephen Glover – who was working on the Lando script with his brother, Lando actor Donald Glover – the idea is to make a feature film about the character, rather than a series for Disney+ as previously announced.
Multiple trade outlets confirmed the news, with the stipulation that any movement on the screenplay has to wait until the current writers’ and actors’ strikes have come to an end.
Donald Glover first played Lando in 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and while the film was poorly received, his portrayal of the character first made famous by Billy Dee Williams was hailed as a high point. Donald Glover's planned 'Lando' TV series is now being developed as a movie. The 39-year-old actor first played Lando Calrissian in 2018's 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' and it was announced in December 2020 that a spin-off show was in the works, but now the star's brother, Stephen Glover has revealed the project is now being developed for the big screen, though it is currently on hold due to the ongoing writers' strike.Stephen, who is developing the project with his brother, told the 'Pablo Torre Finds Out' podcast: "It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.” Lucasfilm then confirmed to Variety that the movie was being made instead of the TV series.Donald previously insisted he wouldn't make a spin-off if the story wasn't right.

2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story" may not have done too well at the box office, but one enduring highlight from it is Donald Glover's performance as Lando Calrissian. The smooth-talking, cape-wearing smuggler effortlessly stole every scene he was in, which is why conversations about a Lando-focused spinoff have been swirling for years.
In December 2020, Disney announced that a series centered around Lando was in the works with "Haunted Mansion" director Justin Simien as showrunner. However, Simien wound up exiting the project and Donald and his brother, Stephen Glover, took over, per The Hollywood Reporter. During a Sept. 14 appearance on the podcast "Pablo Torre Finds Out," Stephen revealed that the project is now a movie being made in partnership with Lucasfilm. "It's not even a show . . . the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it's kind of like telephone, all of the information,...

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Donald Glover (and his brother Stephen) were working with Disney+ and the Star Wars universe to create a series spinoff of his character Lando Calrissian. Well, turns out it’ll actually be a movie.
On Thursday, Lucasfilm confirmed to Variety that Lando will be a film, serving as a spin-off to the character he played in Star Wars film, Solo, after Stephen Glover said so on a new podcast.

Lucasfilm has confirmed that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen’s project based on the Star Wars character Lando Calrissian will be a film, not a television series, as previously reported.
The news came on Thursday via Variety, which received the confirmation from Lucasfilm. Earlier that day, Stephen — who was an executive producer on Atlanta — indicated that the project has pivoted to being a film while speaking on the podcast Pablo Torre Finds Out. “It’s not even a show… the idea right now is to do a movie,” Stephen explained.
Going further, Stephen clarified that, while making a movie is the goal, the project is in a limbo of sorts at the moment due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. “Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information,” he said.

There are changes afoot for the Star Wars Disney+ series focusing on the younger days of Lando Calrissian, as portrayed by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Primarily that it's not actually going to be a series anymore, but is being turned into a movie instead.
This is just the latest shift for the show, which at one point was to be overseen by Dear White People creator Justin Simien but has been taken over by Donald Glover, working with brother and creative partner Stephen.
The pair, who co-created the Glover-starring comedy/drama series Atlanta, were working on the series concept, but Stephen Glover revealed on the podcast Pablo Torre Finds Out (find the interview below) that their thinking has changed.

There’s a disturbance in the force as Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian project is charting a new course. According to Glover’s brother and Atlanta EP, Stephen Glover, Lando is pivoting from a Disney+ series to a feature film. Deadline confirmed the information, giving Star Wars fans something to look forward to after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are resolved.
“It’s not even a show,” Glover said. “The idea right now is to do a movie,” he added. “Right now, because of the strike, it’s like a game of telephone.”
Glover’s young Lando Calrissian debuted in Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Unfortunately, the film arrived more curdled than a warm jar of blue Bantha milk at the box office with a $392.9M worldwide total. Despite the film’s failure, Calrissian remains a fan-favorite character, especially after Billy Dee Williams reprised the iconic role in multiple Star Wars projects.

Honestly, it must be awesome to be a high-level studio executive. You get to sit around all day long, rake in millions by delegating jobs to other people, and make all sorts of bank-breaking decisions at the drop of a hat -- like waffling back on forth endlessly over whether to make the next big slice of the IP pie into a movie or a streaming series. Well, the pendulum has apparently swung the other way, because we have a fresh, new update on Lucasfilm's "Lando" production.
Originally conceived as a spin-off movie, "Lando" would've ideally ridden on the coattails of 2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story" prequel film and given Donald Glover an even greater chance to shine, especially since he was widely agreed to be one of the few highlights from that dud of a movie. Of course, once "Solo" bombed hard upon release, those plans subsequently...

Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian is not returning in a new Star Wars series, rather in a theatrical feature film. Deadline has confirmed with insiders that the project is pivoting from a Disney+ series to the big screen.
The news was revealed Thursday via the actor’s brother and fellow Atlanta EP Stephen Glover, who was working on the project with Donald. News broke in July that the duo replaced Justin Simien as the writers of Lando.

Donald Glover is shifting gears with his planned Disney+ Lando series. The project is now being developed as a film for Lucasfilm, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Glover’s brother, Stephen Glover, was working on the project with Donald before the writers strike began in May, and during an appearance on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast posted Thursday, revealed the latest plans were to make a film. The project is on hold currently amid the dual writer and actors strike.
Donald Glover played Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film was a box office bomb, but Glover earned a strong response for his work as the character — and in December 2020, Disney announced the series was in the works.
Justin Simien (Haunted Mansion) was initially tapped to develop series, but exited prior to Donald and Stephen Glover taking over writing duties. That was when the project morphed into a feature.

“Lando,” the upcoming Disney+ series that will star Donald Glover reprising his role as Lando Calrissian from 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” was recently revealed to be in development (after a soft announcement in 2020).
At the time it was announced that Glover and his brother (and frequent collaborator) Stephen had taken over the project and were hard at work. And now Stephen Glover has let something slip: it’s not a TV show. It’s a movie. Watch the clip below.

Back in July, Donald and Stephen Glover took over writing duties from “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien on the long-gestating “Lando” series over at Disney+. But now there’s new intrigue on the “Lando” front, with Stephen hinting that the project he and Donald are working on may no longer be series. Instead, Variety reports that “Lando” is now a standalone movie, and will be part of the upcoming spate of “Star Wars” films that include James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Dave Filoni‘s movies.

News broke in July that Donald and Stephen Glover had been tapped by Disney and Lucasfilm to replace Justin Simien as the writers of a new “Lando” television series on Disney+. But not so fast. The project is actually being developed as a “Lando” movie, Lucasfilm confirmed to Variety. Glover debuted as a young Lando Calrissian in the 2017 “Star Wars” tentpole “Solo,” which was a notable box office disappointment for Disney and Lucasfilm.

Fresh off the news that Bob Iger wanted to pull back on Star Wars and Marvel-related content, there are brand new developments emerging for the streaming series that will explore more of Lando Calrissian’s story in the galaxy that is said to be located far, far away. A couple of weeks ago, Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, spoke to CNBC about lowering the amount of production for their two major properties in order to cut costs. “You pull back not just to focus, but also as part of our cost containment initiative. Spending less on what we make, and making less,” Iger explained. However, the planning of the Star Wars spin-off continues.

Brothers Donald Glover and Stephen Glover are teaming up to pen Disney+’s Lando series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The deal, first reported by Above the Line, was made prior to the Writers Strike, which began in May. Justin Simien, who was previously attached to develop Lando, exited the Star Wars project prior to the duo signing on.
Disney announced in December 2020 that the Lucasfilm show was in the works. Donald Glover, who will star in the series, previously played Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. While the film bombed at the box office, Glover’s performance was well received.
The smooth-talking smuggler first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, with original Lando actor Billy Dee Williams returning for Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
During a recent interview with THR, Simien spoke about the Lando project, and said he was uncertain about its future.

Donald and Stephen Glover are set to co-write the upcoming Lando Calrissian series for Disney+, following “Dear White People” writer Justin Simien‘s reported exit from the “Star Wars” spin-off.
Simien reportedly left the Lucasfilm show last summer to focus on directing the “Haunted Mansion” remake set to premiere in theaters Friday. “Lando” was first announced by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy during Disney’s Investor Day in December 2020, without providing details on whether it would center the character as portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy or by Glover in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
Kennedy later confirmed that the show would center on Glover’s Lando, with the artist’s busy schedule delaying production. “It’s not for lack of trying. It’s just that he’s a very busy guy,” she told Cinemablend in May 2022. “He’s got another series, and I think one other thing,...

With Justin Simien recently parting ways with the series, Deadline has confirmed that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen have come on to develop the Lando Calrissian series Lando for Lucasfilm and Disney+. Glover and his brother Stephen Glover will write the series with plans to write the series as if Donal will reprise the role he first appeared in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Lucasfilm had no comment.
Justin Simien, who recently directed Haunted Mansion for Disney, parted ways with the project last year and sources confirm the Glovers came on to develop the project prior to the recent Writers Strike.
Originally played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Donald first appeared as Calrissian in Ron Howard’s 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which also starred Alden Ehrenreich as a younger version of Han Solol as well as Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson.

For years now, Lucasfilms' "Lando" series has been one of the biggest "we'll believe it when we see some movement on it" Star Wars projects around. Well, today's breaking news definitely counts as movement: i09 and Gizmodo have confirmed an earlier report that Donald Glover isn't just set to star in the Disney+ series about Lando Calrissian, but will also co-write the series, too. His brother and fellow "Atlanta" writer-producer Stephen Glover is set to pen the show with him, while "Dear White People" filmmaker Justin Simien's involvement in the project seems at best up in the air, but he looks to be off the project.
Apparently, the change in screenwriters came before the current SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, when Gizmodo reports that Simien chose to focus full-time on "The Haunted Mansion," which is set for a theatrical release tomorrow. This doesn't seem to be a clear consensus, though,...

Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover are attached to write the Disney+ Star Wars limited series “Lando,” based on the iconic Lando Calrissian character, IndieWire has confirmed.
“Haunted Mansion” director and “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien was previously attached to write “Lando” back when it was first revealed to be in the works in 2020, but Simien is no longer involved with the project.
Glover portrayed a young Lando in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in 2018, taking over from Billy Dee Williams, who originated the role in “The Empire Strikes Back.” The “Atlanta” creator has been vocal about returning to the role, but it’s unclear at present if he’s attached to star.
“We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down,” Glover said to GQ back in April. “I would love to play Lando again. … It’s a fun time,...
