The return of two of The Walking Dead universe’s signature characters gave the latest spinoff in the franchise a ratings jolt.
The premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live — which features the returns of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick and Danai Gurira’s Michonne — delivered 3 million viewers (inclusive of replays and simulcasts) over three days for AMC. That’s the best series debut performance on the cable network in almost six years (since The Terror in March 2018, which had the then-dominant Walking Dead flagship as a lead-in).
AMC doesn’t share data for its AMC+ streaming platform (in keeping with the m.o. for most streamers), but the company says The Ones Who Live premiere was the most watched episode of any show on the service. AMC also says the Feb. 25 debut drew more AMC+ viewing in two days than any other season premiere had in a full week,...

Scott M. Gimple, the co-creator of the new “The Walking Dead” spin-off series “The Ones Who Live,” said he hopes to be able to reunite beloved franchise characters like Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) in an epic series crossover.
“There are so many things with this universe that I plan and put together, but I also know that God laughs, and you have to pivot to something else,” Gimple said. “I absolutely have been working towards that and hoping towards that, but we’ll see what happens. It might be a version of it that no one expects.”

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has lived a few lives.
The project, which stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, reprising their respective Rick Grimes and Michonne characters, originally was set as The Walking Dead franchise’s first feature-length movie before transitioning into a six-part limited series.
It was designed to wrap up the story arcs for Grimes and Michonne.
However, Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead universe and showrunner of The Ones Who Live, which is the universe’s sixth spinoff, teased that it might not be that limited.
“Anything is possible — even if Rick dies in the last episode, anything is possible,” he said. “We’re focused on this one right now. But this one came together in a really amazing way, where there were all sorts of plans. And then the world changed and we altered those plans.”

The second trailer for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live aims for a mood, and that mood is pervasive dread.
Coming two weeks after the first trailer, the new clip features multiple shots of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) slaying zombies — it seems to be Rick’s job — while hoping against hope that the other is still alive and they can find each other once again.
That’s the animating principle for the series, which brings Lincoln and Gurira back into the Walking Dead fold after both departed the flagship series in the later years of its run. The trailer also features a slightly longer glimpse at the military force headed by Terry O’Quinn’s character, Beale, who tells Rick that “everything will change” if he comes on board with Beale’s vision.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will (presumably) reunite Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) — but from what’s showcased in the trailer for the upcoming series, it won’t be easy.
The trailer (watch it below) puts both characters, returning to the franchise after departing the flagship series several years ago, in bleak circumstances, with shots of Rick pressing a bullet against his forehead and Michonne running from what appears to be a chemical weapons attack.
At one point, Terry O’Quinn’s character, Beale, asks Rick, “Why are you here? Do you want to kill, or do you want to die?” To which Rick replies, “Look in my eyes, sir. You tell me.”
The official description for The Ones Who Live reads, “Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on...

The Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (you can read our review Here) is set to continue with a second season that will focus on Daryl’s good friend Carol, played by Melissa McBride – and because of that, the second season has the ridiculous (and ridiculously long) title of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. Thanks to a SAG interim agreement, the show was able to make its way through production while the actors strike was still going on… and now that the strike is over, Deadline has revealed that McBride is joined in the cast of the show by Manish Dayal.
Dayal just wrapped up a six season run on the Fox TV series The Resident. Some of his other credits include The Hundred-Foot Journey, Viceroy House, Holidate, Halt and Catch Fire, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Exclusive: The Resident alum Manish Dayal has been tapped for a major recurring role in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol, the second season of the Norman Reedus Twd spinoff.
Season 2 will revolve around Melissa McBride’s character Carol Peletier (hence The Book of Carol title), reuniting her with Reedus’ Daryl Dixon. It’s slated to premiere in 2024.
Dayal will play Ash, an engineer from Boston who moved to the family weekend house in Maine after the onset of the apocalypse. Ash lives by a strict schedule based mostly around his daily flights in a retrofitted single engine plane and mysterious visitations to his backyard greenhouse.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol was able to resume production overseas during the strike after receiving an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA.

When it was announced that The Walking Dead was going to wrap up with its eleventh season, it was also revealed that there were going to be follow-up spin-offs, including one that would focus on the characters of Carol and Daryl, played by Melissa McBride and Norman Reedus. But then it was said that McBride had to drop out of the show when it was decided that it would be filming in Europe, as she couldn’t relocate for an extended period of time. So we got the Daryl solo spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (you can read our review Here). As it turns out, there was a plan all along to bring McBride into the show, and as Daryl Dixon wrapped up its six episode first season it was said that the second season would be called The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. The season finale of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” aired on AMC last night, and it brought along with it the tease that main show character Carol (Melissa McBride) will be joining Norman Reedus in the second season of the spinoff series. In fact, next year’s Season 2 of “Daryl Dixon” has officially been dubbed “The Walking Dead: The Book of Carol.”
As you may recall, the “Daryl Dixon” spinoff had originally been announced as a Daryl/Carol spinoff series, so it’s essentially returning to those original plans in its second season.
“The Book of Carol” opens up on AMC in 2024. Watch the teaser trailer below.
“The Daryl Dixon spinoff series tracks Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.

The Walking Dead reached the end of its eleven season run last year, and long before the show ended we knew the character Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) was going to be getting a spin-off. But when the Daryl spin-off was first announced, it was said to focus on the two-person team of Daryl and his friend Carol (Melissa McBride). That plan changed when it was decided that the show was going to take place in Europe, and McBride didn’t want to relocate for an extended period of time. “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is off to the races in the ratings.
Per AMC, the premiere of the spinoff series centered on Norman Reedus’ fan favorite character is officially the biggest premiere in the history of streamer AMC+ with three weeks of streaming data available. That puts its ahead of fellow “Walking Dead” spinoff “The Walking Dead: Dead City” starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Maggie and Negan, which claimed the biggest premiere honor back in June. Both shows have already been renewed for second seasons.
Furthermore, “Daryl Dixon” is now on pace to become the most-viewed season of any show in the history of AMC+.
In the linear ratings, the fourth episode of “Daryl Dixon” this past Sunday hit new series highs in total viewership and the adults 25-54 demographic. In the Nielsen Live+3 ratings, the show hit 1.1 million viewers with its fourth episode. That includes 392,000 viewers in the demo.

The Walking Dead reached the end of its eleven season run last year, and the first season of the follow-up spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City ran through its six episodes earlier this year. The next follow-up spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, is set to reach AMC and AMC+ at 9pm on Sunday, September 10th – and star Norman Reedus told Entertainment Weekly that are several elements to the show that will make it stand apart from The Walking Dead. He said, “The photography’s different, the acting style of the people I’m acting with are different, the writing is different.” He even went on to say that the zombies are different: “The walkers that we have on this show, they’re all dancers. They’re not extras, they’re dancers — so they bend and move in weird ways. It’s a combination of a horror film mixed with Cirque du Soleil.

Exclusive: The Walking Dead spinoffs Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live and Interview with a Vampire are set to resume production after AMC Networks struck agreements with SAG-AFTRA.
The three shows are part of interim agreements with the Breaking Bad broadcaster that will allow filming to resume on the three high-profile series.
It’s understood that these agreements are specific to these three shows, rather than a blanket agreement between the company and the guild. AMC Networks, which produces the shows via AMC Studios, confirmed the waivers to Deadline, but didn’t comment further. AMC Networks is a member of the AMPTP but is not among the studios involved in the negotiations.
They mark the most significant television properties to strike such an agreement since the actors walked out. Other series on the interim agreement list include faith series The Chosen, Apple’s Tehran, which was handed an agreement due to its international nature,...

We are fast approaching the premiere of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon on AMC.
The latest chapter of Daryl's story begins Sunday, September 10 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on AMC and AMC+.
The previous footage has showcased Norman Reedus' weatherbeaten character as he navigates a new sandbox.
Now, AMC has dropped the key art for the forthcoming spinoff, and it's as picturesque as you'd expect from a show set in France.
Reedus is front and center in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with the Eiffel Tower in the background for good measure.
Truthfully, the color tone reminds me of Fear the Walking Dead Season 7, which put radiation at the center of the storytelling.
Hopefully, Twd: Daryl Dixon is a cut above that.
