A while back, Blumhouse sent out a casting call in search of the right young actor to fill the role of a 10-year-old female character named Ginger in the Wolf Man reboot they’re making for Universal Pictures with The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell. Now it looks like we know who’ll be playing Ginger, as Deadline reports that child actress Matilda Firth has been added to the cast of Wolf Man.
Firth’s previous credits include Hullraisers, Christmas Carole, and Typist Artist Pirate King. Ginger was described as being “Female, 10 years old, white. Blake and Charlotte’s daughter. Smart, precocious, and strong. When her family decides to leave the city for a quieter life in a remote area, she faces her biggest fear, the possibility of losing one or both of her parents forever.”

Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell are bringing us another reboot of a classic Universal Pictures property with Wolf Man, which had the perfect release date: October 25th, delivering werewolf action to the big screen just in time for Halloween. But Wolf Man only just started filming earlier this month, and the filmmakers clearly feel that they need more than seven months to get it ready for theatres. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Wolf Man‘s release has been delayed, pushed back to January 17, 2025. The studio already had another Blumhouse project scheduled for a January 10th release, the Jaume Collet-Serra / Danielle Deadwyler thriller The Woman in the Yard… but with Wolf Man moving to January, The Woman in the Yard has been bumped off the schedule entirely. We’ll have to wait and see when Universal will decide to release that one.

“Wolf Man” is billed as a blood-chilling reimagining of the classic Universal monster pic. The film is directed by Leigh Whannell, who wrote the script with Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Dumb Money”). Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
The film will reunite Abbott with co-star Julia Garner, with whom she starred in 2011’s “Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene,” her first professional acting role.
Whannell’s previous films with Blumhouse include “Invisible Man,” “Upgrade” and “Insidious: Chapter 3.” “Wolf Man” is produced by Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum and is executive produced by Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell. Filming kicked off just a couple weeks ago on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which had been ambitiously dated for release on October 25, 2024. As it turns out, however, a Halloween 2024 release was a bit too ambitious.
THR reports that Wolf Man will howl its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.
Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) has been cast in the titular role.

Not a trick, definitely not a treat: Universal Pictures has pulled Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” from its primo Halloween 2024 release, and has re-dated the wide release for January 17, 2025.
With “Wolf Man” now in mid-January 2025, Universal took Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard” — originally slated for January 10, 2025 — off its schedule. That one, starring Danielle Deadwyler, “is now unset and will be re-dated for a later date,” Universal said on Friday. In other words, it definitely won’t be replacing “Wolf Man” this coming Halloween season.
Jason Blum can’t buy a date lately around his favorite holiday. This past Halloween, it was Taylor Swift who ruined his (and others’) best-laid plans. When Swift announced her concert film, “The Eras Tour,” would release in theaters on October 13, 2023, Blum (wisely) chose to move “The Exorcist: Believer” off of its very suitable original date of Friday the 13th. In October. Eighteen days ahead of Halloween.

Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Julia Garner has been signed on to star in Leigh Whannell’s ‘Wolf Man’.
The movie reunites Julia — playing a mother whose family is being terrorised by a lethal predator — with Christopher Abbott, with whom she starred in 2011’s ‘Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene’, her first professional acting role, reports Variety.
Since then, Julia has gone on to become a major player in both film and television, winning three Emmy awards for her standout performance as Ruth Langmore in ‘Ozark’, and garnering multiple nominations for her portrayal of real-life con artist Anna Delvey in Shonda Rhimes’ limited series ‘Inventing Anna’.
As per Variety, in the film, Julia earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for her impressive lead turn in Kitty Green’s ‘The Assistant’. Last year, the pair teamed up again for another critically acclaimed feature, ‘The Royal Hotel’, which Julia also produced through her Alma Margo production banner.

For 12 seasons, "Murder, She Wrote" was the definitive cozy murder mystery show. Set in the small and charming yet dead-body-filled fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the show wormed its way into the hearts of procedural fans everywhere with its familiar structure and unlikely hero -- middle-aged mystery writer Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury). While the actor behind the beloved amateur sleuth passed away in 2022, "Murder, She Wrote" lives on, both in the form of much-watched reruns and in an upcoming movie adaptation.
Little is known about the new version of "Murder, She Wrote" at this point, but screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo have said that the story will relate back to Cabot Cove and Jessica in some capacity. When it comes to potential cameos from old cast members, the pool is unfortunately limited, as several of the series' lead actors have passed away in the decades since the show ended.

“I like the stock.”
If only the world of high finance could accept things as simply as that.
As we learned in 2021, the so-called masters of the universe had written off GameStop, the venerable supply of used video games and assorted tech gear. The only one, it seemed, who still believed in them was Keith Gill, who live-blogged as Roaring Kitty. With incredible transparency, he shared his spreadsheets and showed his faith by buying up shares, which encouraged others to follow suit.

Last week, it was announced that the Wolf Man reboot Blumhouse has been developing for Universal since 2020 is now on the fast track to production, aiming for an October 25, 2024 theatrical release. The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell will be at the helm of this new take on the 1941 classic The Wolf Man, with Christopher Abbott (Possessor) on board to star. One character that hasn’t been cast just yet is a 10-year-old female named Ginger, and Blumhouse has sent out a casting call in search of the right young actor to fill the role.
Ginger is described as being “Female, 10 years old, white. Blake and Charlotte’s daughter. Smart, precocious, and strong. When her family decides to leave the city for a quieter life in a remote area, she faces her biggest fear, the possibility of losing one or both of her parents forever.” Blumhouse is hoping to find someone...

What would the cozy crime-solving world of Jessica Fletcher look like if "Murder, She Wrote" were made in 2023 rather than the '80s? Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the writers of this year's GameStop stocks dramedy "Dumb Money," are prepared to answer that question. The pair have been tapped to write a movie adaptation of "Murder, She Wrote," and while a big-screen version of Cabot Cove may seem antithetical to the weekend binge-watch vibe of the original series, Schuker Blum and Angelo have plenty of ideas about how to bring Jessica into the 21st century.
"We were both kids who were suburban kids who just grew up watching 'Murder, She Wrote,' and anything else that broadcast TV fed to us," Angelo told /Film's Ben Pearson in a recent interview alongside her co-writer. She noted that the big-screen adaptation of the long-running series "has been the love of...

Like the somewhat tortured lycanthrope at its heart, Blumhouse's Wolf Man has gone through some changes as it makes its way to screens. Originally set up via filmmaker Derek Cianfrance reuniting with Ryan Gosling to tackle the horror, it then shifted to see :a[The Invisible Man]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-invisible-man/' }'s Leigh Whannell taking over the director's job (after being originally attached before Cianfrance). Now Gosling has departed the lead role, with Christopher Abbott taking it on instead.

Universal's "Wolf Man" remake, a project that's long remained in various stages of development over the years, is finally rounding into shape. Last we heard, the film was going to star Ryan Gosling as the eponymous Universal monster with "The Place Beyond the Pines" filmmaker Derek Cianfrance in the director's chair, taking over for original director Leigh Whannell (who had proven himself as a brilliant fit in this new Monster-verse with his 2020 reimagining of "The Invisible Man") after the latter departed due to scheduling conflicts. Well, I hope you weren't too invested in that news because it seems the studio has gone back to the drawing board and emerged with an even more exciting version of the movie.

Back in 2020, it was announced that Ryan Gosling would be starring in a reboot of the 1941 classic The Wolf Man for Universal Pictures. Blumhouse Productions came on to produce the project soon after, with their The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell signing on to take the helm. When Whannell left the project the following year, Gosling’s Blue Valentine and Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance came on board. Then Gosling and Cianfrance both stepped away from Wolf Man earlier this year. But that wasn’t the death knell for the project. In fact, we have just learned that it’s moving full steam ahead, with Whannell back at the helm and Christopher Abbott (Possessor) set to star in the film, which is aiming for an October 25, 2024 theatrical release!

Christopher Abbott is the new “Wolf Man,” taking over the starring role in the upcoming monster movie from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures from Ryan Gosling.
Details on the project are being kept under wraps, but Abbott plays a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
“Wolf Man” will be directed by Leigh Whannell — who was behind the 2020 hit “The Invisible Man,” which relaunched the Universal monsterverse and grossed $144 million at the global box office — and is dated for release on Oct. 25. The film is written by Whannell and Corbett Tuck and Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Dumb Money”).
The project was originally announced in 2020 with Gosling set to star; in 2021, Derek Cianfrance signed on to direct, reuniting after their acclaimed collaborations on 2010’s “Blue Valentine” and 2012’s “The Place Beyond the Pines.” The pair departed the picture together, though Gosling will remain involved with the project as an executive producer.

In the wake of The Invisible Man back in 2020, Leigh Whannell is reteaming with Universal and Blumhouse to direct a new take on the Wolf Man, THR officially reports today.
Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) has been cast in the titular role. As you may recall, Ryan Gosling had previously been attached, with Derek Cianfrance on board to direct.
The Hollywood Reporter notes this afternoon, “Gosling and Cianfrance have both departed the project although Gosling will now receive an executive producer credit.”
Whannell’s Wolf Man will howl its way into theaters on October 25, 2024. It’s interesting to note that Whannell was the original director on the project, before Cianfrance took over.

Christopher Abbott Replacing Ryan Gosling to Star in ‘Wolf Man’ for Blumhouse, Universal (Exclusive)
Wolf Man has taken a new form.
Christopher Abbott, currently on screens with award season darling Poor Things, will star in Blumhouse and Universal Pictures’ werewolf thriller that is being directed by Invisible Man filmmaker Leigh Whannell.
Additionally, the companies have set an Oct. 25, 2024 release date for the feature, meaning the project is now moving faster than a speeding silver bullet.
That’s a hair-raising development for the thriller, which for the past three-plus years had Ryan Gosling on board to star. And it marks a return to the Wolf Man director’s chair for Whannell, who was initially on board the creature feature but moved aside in 2021, with Gosling’s Place Beyond the Pines and Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance parachuting in.

I've interviewed a lot of people this year for /Film, but none better reflected the energy of the film they wrote than Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the screenwriters of "Dumb Money." Their enthusiasm and rapid-fire speech patterns, in which they frequently were so excited that they'd finish each other's sentences, was infectious to listen to, and it perfectly aligned with the way their script (and director Craig Gillespie and his editors) unspooled the chaos of the GameStop stock story for the big screen. It also indicated a deep level of comfort these two have with each other as co-workers: Through collaborating together for over ten years, first as investigative journalists and then as screenwriters, they've formed the type of mind-meld that sounds familiar if you've ever read about how the Coen Brothers make decisions on set. There's a shorthand on display, and they each possess the same exact...

Dumb Money, a 2023 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, failed to make wonders in the box office despite having good audience and critics reviews. In January 2021, Dumb Money producer Aaron Ryder was in the midst of a mandatory two-week quarantine in Montreal, and to pass the time, he began to track the ever-evolving situation with GameStop’s stock. The struggling video game retailer became the apple of the internet’s eye, as Redditors on the WallStreetBets subreddit and YouTube investors like Keith Gill’s Roaring Kitty (portrayed by Paul Dano in Dumb Money) were leading the Gme stock short squeeze in an effort to give hedge fund short sellers a taste of their own medicine.
Around the same time, Ryder’s company, Ryder Picture Company, had just launched and entered into a first-look deal with MGM, and as all this drama was still unfolding with GameStop’s soaring stock, the Oscar nominee became a part of the deal for author Ben Mezrich’s GameStop-related book proposal that would later become The Antisocial Network. We are sure that with the resounding success of recent films and audiences coming back to cinemas in huge numbers, even this year’s National Cinema Day will be a memorable day for exhibitors and audiences.

The Oscars love it when a movie sticks it to the man.
Films focusing on systemic inequality, or the monied elite’s morally murky ways, arrive as many industry voters have spent the better part of the year on the picket lines, holding out for a better contract from studios. These movies could strike an emotional chord with Academy members when they cast their ballots.
Although the titles vying for Oscars have nothing to do with fights over streaming residuals, they reflect a growing dissatisfaction with the chasm that exists between the 1% and those of us lacking trust funds and Swiss bank accounts.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson on Wbgr-fm on September 21st, 2023, reviewing “Dumb Money,” featuring Paul Dano as Keith Gill, a rogue stock trader. Opening in theaters everywhere September 29th.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Dano is Gill, who is a “retail stock trader” online, who hosts a live stream on the subject. The one percenters who control the stock market call these folks “dumb money.” Gill notes during the pandemic in 2020-21 that the stock of GameStop is being “shorted” by Wall Street hustlers. He buys and holds, and encourages his followers to do the same, including nurse Jennifer (America Ferrera), college student Harmony (Talia Ryder) and even GameStop clear Marcos (Anthony Ramos). When multi-millionaire Gabe Plotkin (Seth Rogen) notices this weird activity, it may cost him billions. Meanwhile, Gill, his wife Caroline (Shailene Woodley) and brother Kevin (Pete Davidson) may be getting rich.

During the pandemic, a few key events were truly collective experiences as there was little else to do but observe what was happening. One of the biggest examples was the GameStop stock situation, which sent Wall Street into a frenzy and received global news coverage for weeks on end. The whole thing has now been documented in the upcoming film "Dumb Money," which hails from director Craig Gillespie ("Pam & Tommy"). It turns out, Gillespie had an intense, first-hand experience with the whole "meme stock" saga.
The filmmaker recently spoke with People about the film, which is currently in limited release before expanding wide over the next couple of weeks. During the conversation, Gillespie explained that one of his sons actually got involved in the whole GameStop stock situation after a YouTuber named Roaring Kitty and a Reddit page called WallStreetBets got a bunch of average Joes to drive the company's stock through the roof.

Mainstream media blamed the Gamestop and Wall Street controversy of 2021 on Reddit users but what they didn't reveal is how regular working-class Americans beat Wall Street at their own game. The little guy essentially helped save GameStop from closing its doors as a few hedge fund managers were betting on. The pair discuss how they approached the story and why they framed it in layman's terms. ...

If you weren’t one of the 8 million regular folks who invested in Gamestop stock two years ago as Covid raged, and you’d had enough of watching Wall Street bigwigs get richer, “Dumb Money” will explain a lot.
If you were one of those people, well, this film is all about you.
Written and directed at a breakneck pace by two former Wall Street journal reporters (writers Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum) and director Craig Gillespie (“I Tonya”), “Dumb Money” is one of those films that manages to tell a small, specific story of… ok, a stock price being driven sky-high for no intrinsic reason, while also drawing a vivid picture of wealth disparity in our polarized society.
“For me, it’s much larger than the stock market,” said Gillespie in a conversation just after the film’s premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. “We are living it...
