My head is still spinning from everything that just transpired.
Seriously, if The Rookie Season 6 Episode 9 didn't do anything else, it would have set the stage for a positively explosive season finale.
The hour was all gas and no brakes. So many names were thrown at us that it was hard to keep up, and with so many moving pieces, it was like watching a chess championship.
Listen, we know The Rookie can do season finales right, and if this hour was any indication, we're gearing up for another epic one.
But as jampacked and head-spinning as this installment was, I'd be remiss if I didn't wonder where this was throughout the season.
The shortened seasons have been more curse than blessing for so much of the series that we've come to enjoy.
While The Rookie Season 6 has some solid episodes and the cast always rises to the occasion to entertain us,...

While Guy Ritchie’s brand new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare isn’t doing as well as everybody wished in the box office, a real lifesaver has already come to the director’s rescue.
Four years after its theatrical release, Ritchie’s action comedy hit The Gentlemen is finally available to stream on Netflix — and the timing for the movie’s arrival couldn’t be better.
Having a star-studded cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Hugh Grant, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong and many others, the film follows American cannabis wholesaler Michael ‘Mickey’ Pearson who seeks to sell his weed empire so that he and his wife Rosalind, portrayed by Michelle Dockery, could spend the rest of their life carelessly.
Played by constantly chill Matthew McConaughey who hasn’t been new to roles of shady businessmen for quite a long time, Mickey hopes to get over the...

The dinosaur-chasing actor will take your questions on her extraordinary range of stage, film and TV roles from Shakespeare to Black Mirror to Rocketman
The actor Bryce Dallas Howard may be best known to cinema audiences for walloping genetically modified dinosaurs, but she began in experimental theatre, then broke through on Broadway, playing Rosalind in a production of As You Like It. It was this which alerted M Night Shyalaman to her talent – he then cast her, without an audition, as the lead in 2004’s The Village, as a blind woman who lives as part of a curious sect in a remote community.

When comparing Greta Gerwig's film "Barbie" to ancient writings, one might find that it bears the strongest resemblance to the Book of Genesis. Barbie and Ken are Adam and Eve, Barbieland is the Garden of Eden, and the Patriarchy is the Forbidden Fruit. Ken also serves as the Serpent in this metaphor. Unlike in Genesis, however, Eden remains the blissful paradise it always was at the end, and it's Barbie who leaves to grow up.
Gerwig has been open about the unexpected spiritual influences on "Barbie," having written an Apostle's Creed for her lead character. She also once noted that Barbie was created first, in 1959, with Ken hitting the market in 1960. Barbie was alone in the Garden before God created Ken out of her rib. Gerwig also held what she called "movie church" every Sunday while filming "Barbie," inviting her cast to worship at the alter of cinema at...

Camilla Parker Bowles, who married King Charles in 2005, has acquired an impressive collection of tiaras over the years. Although some of the most exquisite pieces were gifted to her by the late Queen Elizabeth, not all of Camilla’s tiaras were inherited from Her Majesty.
Among Camilla’s most exquisite tiaras are the Delhi Durbar parure and the Greville Tiara, but one that is particularly special to her was inherited from her own family and has a sentimental connection to her grandmother.

ABC‘s The Rookie star Annie Wersching unexpectedly died on Sunday, Jan. 29. Wersching played Rosalind Dyer, easily one of The Rookie‘s most notorious villains. She was one of our favorite bad guys to watch as she tormented Nolan, Lucy, and the rest of the LAPD. And we, along with other fans, will greatly miss Wersching as Rosalind in The Rookie.

When I left England in 2009 to live in the Czech Republic, I was totally done with the whole thing. I was broke, had no career prospects, and hated the lifestyle. If it wasn't for family and a few close friends I would have gladly never set foot on the island again. That disillusionment might have lasted forever if it wasn't for folk horror which, in its strange way, helped me reconnect with my home country.
It was the BBC's wonderfully chilling adaptation of "A Warning to the Curious" that really got me into it. Based on the ghost story by M.R. The Rookie loves itself as a good villain, and they know how to put them to use.
It was easy not to think much of the gang war Angela, Harper, Nolan, and Celina happened across on The Rookie Season 5 Episode 11, but as far as having things come together, Elijah, as a returning baddie, sets up another potentially interesting arc.
Of course, that's assuming people aren't tired of Elijah already.
Angela and Nyla, as partners, continue to be the gift that keeps on giving, and they always bring in the interesting cases, too. The ladies just click well with each other, and most days, you can watch an entire installment devoted to them.
The return of Angela's super hot priest brother was a treat, but he brought the total opposite of that when he needed her to look into finding Mateo, the good kid caught up in gangs.

Joanna Hogg’s The Eternal Daughter is, among other things, a spiritual sequel to her exquisite recent films The Souvenir (2019) and The Souvenir Part II (2021). Those movies studied a fledgling filmmaker named Julie Hart, who, bearing some autobiographical resemblance to Hogg herself, wound her way through memories of dating a charismatic, troubled drug addict, attending film school in England in the 1980s, and trying to carve out an artistic identity for herself under the conflicted but supportive eye of her parents and friends. In those movies, Julie was played by Honor Swinton Byrne.

Chenford is really happening! The couple that shippers have been rooting for since The Rookie Season 1 is finally planning on going on a date!

Our TV Fanatics, Jasmine and Christine, are joined by The Rookie fan, Kate, to critique Lucy and Chris' breakup, their hopes for Chenford, if Nolan has better chemistry with Bailey or Genny (Tim's sister!), and much more...
Why do you think Lucy was dragging her feet over breaking up with Chris?
Jasmine: I don't really know. Fear, maybe? Guilt, too. I think she and Chris got more serious than she intended, and then the whole thing with Rosalind happened, and she would've felt guilty if she left him after that since he only sustained those injuries because of his connection to her.

When director Joanna Hogg embarked on her journey to find a location for her atmospheric, vaguely Gothic ghost story "The Eternal Daughter," she was looking for a place that would give her the creeps. So, quite naturally, she began searching on the internet for haunted manors in the United Kingdom. She explained in an interview with RogerEbert.com that she:
"...was Googling houses around the country, and it was very much about finding an image of a building that made me feel a little bit scared. So I looked at Scotland, I looked in Cornwall. I looked at the most haunted houses in the UK. Then I saw an image of Soughton Hall in north Wales, and it just looked frightening, but also very beautiful."
Although Soughton Hall doesn't seem as though it's populated by any actual ghosts, it is haunted by something perhaps more poignantly in line with the narrative of this film: memories.

With The Eternal Daughter, Joanna Hogg continues her method of cultivating an environment that allows dialogue to be discovered on set. A ghost story in a classical British sense it, provided complications to that long-standing working method—namely that Tilda Swinton plays both lead characters: mother and daughter duo, Rosalind and Julie. Refusing to employ camera tricks, the subsequent shot-reverse shot dynamic that dominates these dialogue-driven sequences meant the distinct possibility of “getting too bogged in the technicalities of it,” Hogg says. But they largely “managed to keep it in the air,” by having key crew members track those pesky technical details of who said what when, allowing Swinton and Hogg to zero in on the moment at hand—something so vital to Hogg’s on-set atmosphere of exploration.

After her acclaimed turn in Jarman’s “Edward II,” Swinton’s gender-bending performance as an Elizabethan nobleman in Sally Potter’s “Orlando” solidified her capacity for audacious onscreen transformations. It wasn’t until 15 years later, with her Oscar-winning turn in Tony Gilroy’s “Michael Clayton,” that Swinton began to explore more commercial material.
These days, however, she has doubled down on the more singular undertakings that put her on the map, from Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s meditative “Memoria” to “The Eternal Daughter,” her latest collaboration with longtime friend and colleague Joanna Hogg.
“The Eternal Daughter,” which A24 released theatrically last week, merges Swinton’s performative ambition with a quasi-genre twist. She plays both Julie, a middle-aged filmmaker, and her mother Rosalind as the pair journey to a gothic country estate.

Joanna Hogg received critical acclaim for her last two movies, the deeply personal "The Souvenir" and "The Souvenir Part II," which presented a fictionalized version of her experience during film school in the '80s. In those films, Honor Swinton Byrne played Julie, a fictionalized version of Hogg, while Byrne's real-life mother, Tilda Swinton, played Julie's mother, Rosalind.
"The Eternal Daughter" revisits Julie and Rosalind in our present day, with Swinton now playing both an older Julie and a more elderly Rosalind. The tone of "The Eternal Daughter," however, is markedly different than that of the two "Souvenir" films. Hogg's latest work is a gothic ghost story, set in an eerie old manor that has been converted into a hotel.
"All my films have been about places and the ghosts within them and the memories within them," Hogg told me in an interview about the making of her latest film.

This review originally ran September 6, 2022, in conjunction with the film’s world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.
An atmospheric labyrinth of reflections and projections, “The Eternal Daughter” expands on British director Joanna Hogg’s recent excavations into memory, both as torturous malaise and gratifying human virtue crucial to deciphering interpersonal relationships.
A master of meta storytelling, Hogg once again transmutes intimate biographical material into the dramatic foundation of her intricate cinematic monuments for this ghostly saga following a middle-aged woman and her elderly mother on a birthday holiday. They are, however, not just any progenitor-offspring duo, but characters from her last brainchildren.
Tilda Swinton, the director’s most loyal onscreen collaborator, incarnates Julie Hart, the burgeoning filmmaker and Hogg surrogate in “The Souvenir” films, but now at a more mature age. Miraculously, the actress also reprises her role as Julie’s mother, Rosalind, from the previous installments, effectively...

The journey of the fairies is over.
Netflix has canceled Fate: The Winx Saga after two seasons.
“This is not fun news to share, but Netflix [has] decided not to move forward with season three of Fate: The Winx Saga. This is especially tough because I know how many of you loved this season. It’s a heartbreaking silver lining, but a silver lining all the same. I’m so proud of everyone who worked on the show, and so happy we got to tell the stories we did. Our cast and crew put in a ton of hard work creating this world and these characters. I’m grateful for each and every one of them, and for all of you for watching. It’s been an amazing four years. Hopefully we’ll see each other again in the future,” wrote showrunner Brian Young on Instagram.

Netflix has canceled “Fate: The Winx Saga” after two seasons, series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Brian Young shared on Instagram.
“Hi all! So this is not fun news to share, but Netflix has decided not to move forward with Season Three of Fate: The Winx Saga,” he wrote. “This is especially tough because I know how many of you love [Season 2]. It’s a heartbreaking silver lining, but silver lining all the same.”
It’s true that many people loved the second season — or at least they consumed it. “Fate: The Winx Saga” Season 2 was released September 16 on Netflix. It made Netflix’s Top 10 list as recently as two weeks ago, the fifth time Season 2 appeared there since premiering.
The second season of “Fate” ranked as high as No. 2 on the English-language TV list, debuting behind only “Cobra Kai” Season 5’s first full week of availability. “Fate: The Winx Saga...

With “The Souvenir” and “The Souvenir: Part II,” Joanna Hogg proved that her ability to push the boundaries of meta-filmmaking is unparalleled. Her latest work, “The Eternal Daughter,” expands on the fictional universe (based on her own life experiences) that she began building with those films. It brings back the character of Julie Hart, a young film student who gets into a troubling relationship with an older man and sorts through the memories by making a film about it. Set later in her life, the role initially played by Honor Swinton Byrne is now played by Tilda Swinton. Swinton also reprises her role as Julie’s mother, doing double duty in a film that examines the way aging can impact family dynamics.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “An artist and her elderly mother confront long-buried secrets when they return to a former family home, now a hotel haunted by its mysterious past.

What a mini-crossover event.
The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 4 primarily continues the story from The Rookie Season 5 Episode 4, where her accomplice is still up and about after Rosalind's death. The case gets kicked up to the feds, who waste no time trying to find him before he strikes again.
This was supposed to be a crossover event, and considering how it was advertised, it failed. If you watch shows in the 9-1-1 or DC universes, when they decide to do a crossover event, it feels like a crossover. This installment didn't feel much different from other episodes where we have had characters from both shows drop in randomly in the other.
It was understandable that Nolan couldn't be here because of what he and Bailey had been through, but there is no excuse not to utilize great detectives like Nyla or Lopez.
As a stand-alone episode, however, it hit all the right notes,...

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
Attention, Marvel and DC! Julia Roberts would love to be in a superhero movie.
When I suggested the idea to the Oscar winner at the “Ticket to Paradise” premiere in L.A., she beamed, “Wouldn’t it be awesome?”
Her co-star George Clooney added, “We should do one — you and me!”
However, Roberts isn’t looking to don a cape for her comic book movie debut. “Maybe an apron,” she said. “Is there a superhero apron?”
Meanwhile, Clooney, who infamously played the Caped Crusader in 1997’s “Batman & Robin,” revealed that his 5-year-old son Alexander’s favorite superhero is … Batman. “I said, ‘You know I was Batman?’” Clooney smiled. “And he was like, ‘Not anymore.’”
“Ticket to Paradise” marks Roberts and Clooney’s first rom-com together. “I read it and thought, ‘This only works with George,’ and he felt the same way,...
