Last year, we heard that Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss would be launching a new production company with Gary Hamilton (so the company is appropriately called Simmons/Hamilton Productions), and the first project they had given the greenlight was a shark thriller called Deep Water – with Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin attached to take the helm of the film! That film has since made its way through production, and a couple days ago we learned that the cast includes Aaron Eckhart of Harlin’s The Bricklayer, Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), Molly Wright (Netflix’s True Spirit), Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road), Kelly Gale (Plane), singer and actor Li Wenhan, who is a member of the Chinese-Korean K-Pop group Uniq, and Nashi (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms). Now a first look image has made its way online, and it shows the characters played by Eckhart and Wright.

Director Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps production banner continue to reap the fruit of a landmark 2016.
Both parties were heavily involved in the production and subsequent release of Arrival and Netflix’s nostalgic phenomenon, Stranger Things, and we’re already caught wind of multiple projects gaining traction under 21 Laps, such as The Darkest Minds and the star-studded drama Kodachrome. Heck, Levy is also attached to Sony’s long-brewing Uncharted movie, which has appointed Joe Carnahan on script duties.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Shawn Levy and 21 Laps are joining forces with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin to stage The Fall, a sci-fi pic that tells its alien invasion through the lens of a squabbling, newly-divorced couple. Pete Bridges is the creative mind behind the original spec script, though we understand Levy will now oversee a quick rewrite before the cameras begin rolling.

Amblin Partners, Steven Spielberg’s revamped production banner, is developing an all-new alien invasion flick titled The Fall.
News comes to us by way of Variety, revealing that Aussie scribe Pete Bridges is attached to the script, chronicling a divorced couple caught in the thick of a full-scale otherworldly siege. Featuring a similar family dynamic to that found in Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, it’ll be fascinating to see how The Fall differs from what has come before.
Currently simmering in the bowels of pre-production – Amblin only acquired the script earlier this week – it’s still early, early days on the sci-fi thriller, with no director or indeed casting to report.
Despite that, news that Amblin is circling back to the realm of science fiction is headline-worthy as is. This is, after all, the overhauled studio that has hatched the likes of E.T, Back To The Future and Gremlins over the years,...

Deadline has reported that Steven Spielberg's production company, Amblin Entertainment, has just closed a deal to pick up a script entitled The Fall. The script was written by Pete Bridges, and went out just before the 4th of July holiday, and the deal only just the closed, the outlet reported.
The film follows a newly-divorced couple and their kids as they try to survive an alien invasion in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bridges himself, isn't much of a name in Hollywood just yet. He's described by Deadline as an Australian writer who was discovered via an online contest. His spec script Resurface made the Black List, which is a list of unproduced scripts that are believed to have serious promise.
The Fall is by no means a new or innovative concept. If you'll recall, back in the mid-2000s, Amblin Entertainment produced The War Of The Worlds, a film with almost exactly the same exact synopsis.

Amblin Entertainment has snapped up the rights to a spec script about an alien invasion called “The Fall,” Deadline reports.
Written by Australian writer Pete Bridges, whose first screenplay “Resurface” was picked up by Todd Garner’s Broken Road Productions after making The Black List in 2015, “The Fall” represents a return to the high-concept adventure genre for Amblin, which has a mandate to produce more titles combining family stories and out-of-this-world plots.
The movie will center on a newly divorced couple fighting to survive and save their children during an alien invasion in and around Atlanta, Georgia. The story bears a striking resemblance to Steven Spielberg’s 2005 hit “War of the Worlds,” which starred Tom Cruise as a divorced father in the midst of an alien attack. Dakota Fanning played Cruise’s daughter in the film, which grossed more than $500 million at the worldwide box office.
