JiDion has returned to Twitch. More than two years after his account on the platform was suspended, the controversial creator (whose real name is Jidon Adams) has had his streaming privileges reinstated.
The story so far
Adams started streaming in 2018, and he quickly rose up the ranks through a brash brand of prank content. His rise on Twitch included numerous controversies. He was banned from professional tennis and basketball leagues after performing outlandish stunts during games.
Despite those Irl antics, the offense that led to the suspension of the JiDion account occurred online. Early in 2022, the streamer sent his fans to the account of Pokimane, where they carried out a “hate raid.” When Twitch determined that Adams had sicced his followers on his rival streamer, the Amazon-owned platform hit him with a two-week suspension that was eventually extended to a permanent ban.

Following the massive success of “Dune: Part Two,” director Denis Villeneuve may have found his next project.
The filmmaker is in discussion to reunite with Legendary for an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Pulitzer Prize finalist “Nuclear War: A Scenario,” Variety has confirmed. Legendary also confirmed that it is working with Villeneuve to develop a third “Dune” film.
Legendary optioned the feature film rights to Jacobsen’s nonfiction book; Villeneuve is currently in talks with the studio to produce, adapt and/or director. His producing partner Tanya Lapointe would also be a part of the project.
Released on March 26, Jacobsen’s book “explores a ticking-clock scenario about what would happen in the event of a nuclear war, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons and have been privy to the response plans and have been responsible for those decisions should they have needed to be made.

Some may not know, but Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan books exist in an expansive shared universe, with many left scratching their heads at how to read them in order.
One could say the renowned writer was ahead of his time, providing his riff on a connected narrative universe long before the MCU or Dceu graced the silver screen.
Colloquially known as the Ryanverse, Clancy's Jack Ryan narrative tapestry totals 39 books written over 40 years, some of which have been adapted in many ways including video games, Amazon Prime Video TV shows, and star-studded Hollywood blockbusters.

Exclusive: Ken Loach has been restored to a decision-making role at Bectu after his shock suspension last year, but a bitter internal row at the UK’s biggest film and TV union shows no sign of abating.
Deadline revealed in December that Loach, the esteemed BAFTA-winning British film director, was ousted from Bectu’s Writers, Producers & Directors (Wpd) branch committee after a 60-year association with the union. Two others were also suspended and six more members faced disciplinary measures.
An appeals board at Bectu’s parent union Prospect has now reversed the suspension, meaning Loach and others can be restored to committee roles. Loach told Deadline that he was relieved that “commonsense had prevailed” and the process had underlined the importance of transparency within trade unions.
Loach and his colleagues were disciplined over how the branch oversaw the resignation of a representative who wrote a letter raising questions about the leadership of Mike Clancy,...

Twenty One Pilots have shared the second song, “Next Semester,” from their upcoming album, Clancy, out May 17.
“Next Semester” is a restless blast of power-punk about wanting to begin again while still contending with what’s in the past. The song’s chorus centers around an inescapable memory, as Tyler Joseph sings: “I remember, I remember certain things/What I was wearing, the yellow dashes in the street/I prayed those lights would take me home/Then I heard, ‘Hey kid, get out of the road!’”

It’s been almost a year since Dan Clancy became CEO of Twitch–and now, in an open letter to the platform’s community, he’s laying out plans for the next 12 months.
2023 was a rough time for Twitch, with two rounds of layoffs and several baffling (often quickly reversed) policy changes, plus pressure from competitors like Kick. 2024 hasn’t begun much more auspiciously: the platform laid off 500 staffers in January, and cut services in South Korea due to “prohibitively expensive” operating costs.
“Our priority is to continue to be the best community-centric live streaming service,” Clancy wrote in his letter. “To do that we need to continue to invest in Twitch so that it can evolve and this letter gives an early peek at some of the things we are doing in 2024 to help improve the service to better meet your needs. Sony‘s untitled Karate Kid film is ready to make Ben Wang‘s heart go pitter-pat after adding Cruel Summer actress Sadie Stanley to the cast. Stanley plays the romantic lead opposite Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in the forthcoming marital arts drama, which also stars Joshua Jackson, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
Plot specifics remain a mystery, though we hear Sony will move the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts. During his journey of self-discovery, Wang’s character meets a disciplined martial arts master. With Chan and Macchio both appearing in the film, there’s a chance Wang’s character could train under two teachers. Jonathan Entwistle

Twitch is adding a 60/40 revenue split for some streamers, and is lifting the $100k cap for streamers already on a 70/30 split as part of its Partner Plus monetization program.
It’s also opening Partner Plus to Affiliates, not just Partners, and as such is rebranding the program to just Plus Program.
For those not caught up, Twitch has been going back and forth on what cut it’s going to take from streamers’ revenue. The split used to be 70/30 (with streamers getting 70% and Twitch taking 30%) for all Partners. But, in September 2022, Twitch upped its own cut to 50%, something that—as you can probably guess—didn’t go over too well with streamers.
Around a year later, Twitch unveiled the Partner Plus Program, where Partner streamers could go back to a 70/30 split if they met certain criteria. Another notable part of that program was the $100k cap: Twitch would only pay...

TwitchCon is returning to North America and Europe in 2024. The yearly convention organized by Amazon-owned streaming hub Twitch will make its first visit to Rotterdam on June 29 and 30. Three months later, the streaming community will flock to San Diego for TwitchCon North America, which will run from September 20-22.
The two TwitchCon events will celebrate streamers through keynote addresses, panels, meet-and-greets, esports tournaments, and an in-person Creator Camp. The platform’s annual gathering began in 2015 in San Francisco and has since visited cities around the world.
The European edition of the convention is coming to Rotterdam six years after it debuted in Berlin. Since then, TwitchCon Europe has traveled to Amsterdam and Paris. The San Diego Convention Center, best known as the home of Comic-Con International, has established itself as the perennial host of TwitchCon North America.

For the third time in the past 12 months, Twitch is laying off a significant portion of its workforce. The streaming platform is letting go of approximately 500 staffers, according to a Bloomberg report.
The Bloomberg report, which cited “people familiar with the plans,” claimed that the layoffs will affect 35% of Twitch employees. A spokesperson for the Amazon-owned hub declined to comment on the news.
Twitch is looking to looking to rebound from a difficult 2023 filled with executive departures, flubbed policy updates, and increased competition from upstart rival Kick. Longtime CEO Emmett Shear left his post in March, and his successor Dan Clancy has since faced a slew of difficult decisions. About 400 Twitch staffers lost their jobs as part of a large round of Amazon cuts, and another group of employees received pink slips just before the start of TwitchCon in October. Amazon’s gamer-centric streaming outlet Twitch is laying off 500 staffers, CEO Dan Clancy told employees in a memo this morning.
The move is being made in sync with cutbacks at corporate siblings Prime Video and Amazon Studios. Bloomberg had reported the layoffs at Twitch on Tuesday. Clancy said the news had “leaked,” suggesting that the Amazon division had to hold off on confirming any details or answering employee questions in order to co-ordinate today’s announcement with that of the other divisions.
Clancy acknowledged in a blog post that the cuts are “painful” and that they come after the company had already been on a cost-cutting drive. Despite that effort to be more efficient, he wrote, “our organization is still meaningfully larger than it needs to be given the size of our business. Last year, we paid out over $1 billion to streamers. So while the Twitch business remains strong, for...

Amazon is laying off “several hundred” employees at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. Additionally, 500 employees — or 35% of the workforce — are being let go at Amazon-owned livestream platform Twitch.

Amazon is cutting hundreds of jobs in its Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios division.
Mike Hopkins, the executive who leads the division, announced the reduction in an email Wednesday morning, writing that “several hundred roles” would be eliminated.
“Our industry continues to evolve quickly and it’s important that we prioritize our investments for the long-term success of our business, while relentlessly focusing on what we know matters most to our customers,” he wrote. “Throughout the past year, we’ve looked at nearly every aspect of our business with an eye towards improving our ability to deliver even more breakthrough movies, TV shows, and live sports in a personalized, easy to use entertainment experience for our global customers. As a result, we’ve identified opportunities to reduce or discontinue investments in certain areas while increasing our investment and focus on content and product initiatives that deliver the most impact.

Twitch creators use the platform’s Clips tool to share snippets of their streams across the web. But there’s another group finding uses for the feature: sexual predators. An analysis Bloomberg identified 83 Twitch Clips that depict sexualized content involving minors.
The 83 videos in question were pulled out of a larger sample of 1,100 Clips. The Canadian Centre for Child Protection reviewed the offending uploads and found that 34 of them depict young Twitch users (typically boys between ages five and 12) showing their genitalia to the camera. In some cases, the underage streamers were egged on by viewers before exposing themselves. The 34 Clips in that group have been viewed 2,700 times. In total, the 83 explicit Clips have raked in more than 10,000 views.
Sexual predation on Twitch has become an unfortunate reality ever since the Amazon-owned hub experienced a traffic boom during the pandemic. In 2020, Wired published an article discussing the tactics predators use to prey on underage streamers.

It’s only been a few weeks since a group of Twitch creators started streaming without shirts, but the so-called “topless meta” has since endured numerous twists and turns. In the week after Twitch reversed its update on sexual content, streamers employed censor bars and pixelation tools to keep the implied nudity coming.
The topless meta got its start when streamers like Morgpie and iShowSpeed broadcast themselves nude from the shoulders up. Their suggested nakedness led to some bans and convinced Twitch to adopt a more permissive policy on “artistic nudity.” That change led to a deluge of shocking images within Twitch’s art category. Two days after the policy shift went live, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy was left with no choice but to announce a rollback.

Twitch is ceasing operations in South Korea, one of the esports capitals of the world, because operating there is “prohibitively expensive,” CEO Dan Clancy said in a company blog post.
He explained that Twitch has been running on a “significant loss” in South Korea due to fees associated with internet access and data transmission. The platform has been working to reduce its costs: it experimented with lowering stream quality to a max of 720p, which did bring things down, but even with that change, network fees in South Korea are still 10x what they are in other countries, Clancy explained.
“nfortunately there is no pathway forward for our business to run more sustainably in that country,” he said.

Twitch‘s new CEO Dan Clancy has been putting in some serious face time with creators, joining them for live streams and opening up communication about long-standing platform policies and parts–like pre-roll ads (he agrees: they suck).
Now, KingGothalion has been the first one to hear that Twitch is apparently planning to crack down on streamers who boost their views by embedding autoplay versions of their streams on video games’ wiki pages.
Creators who do so can rack up thousands upon thousands of views from people who aren’t actually watching their content–they’re on the wiki for Apex Legends or Dead by Daylight, trying to answer some kind of gameplay question or look up lore. Because of the autoplay feature, they may not even realize the video is playing; it’s just quietly ticking the stream’s view count higher.

Summer is always an interesting time in the media calendar. The vast majority of major TV shows are on hiatus and so much attention is being paid to movies on the big screen, that some surprising trends can develop. Despite the fact that Netflix continues to dominate the total amount of time that viewers spend watching TV and movies, last week, it not only did not occupy either of the top spots in Reelgood’s weekly streaming rankings, nor did it claim half of slots on Reelgood's Top 10.

This article contains spoilers for Jack Ryan season 4.
Superheroic CIA analyst Jack Ryan is one of author Tom Clancy’s most iconic creations. In addition to spawning a whole “Ryanverse” in print, Jack has been played by some of Hollywood’s most prominent heavy hitters including Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine.
With the release of Prime Video’s Jack Ryan season 4, however, one actor can now comfortably claim to being Jack-ier than the rest. This season represents John Krasinski’s (The Office) fourth and final time embodying Jack Ryan’s very big shoes, giving him at least two more Jack Ryan adventures over any other actor. Still, someone else will inevitably take over the Ryan reigns one day as this season marks the end for both Krasinski’s depiction of the character and the series known as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan overall.

“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” Season 4 brings another batch of challenges for the eponymous CIA super-agent who headlined a series of novels by Tom Clancy before starring in successful films, and, since 2018, three season of streaming adventures. This next season draws the TV series to a close with this fourth and final season-long, globe-trotting thriller. Fans of any or all of the preceding Jack Ryan iterations will not be disappointed with John Krasinski’s continuing portrayal of their hero, or the six-episode plot-line he navigates.
As usual, there’s a huge conspiracy afoot threatening the world we know, with the action alternating among far-flung arenas of action, and plenty of questions as to who (other than Ryan) is on which side of the crisis. The series opens by showing Jack being subjected to “enhanced interrogation,...

‘Jack Ryan’ Season 4 Review: John Krasinski Cements His Legacy as Tom Clancy’s Legendary Action Hero
It’s not easy being Jack Ryan. Sure, there are the upsides to being a highly placed CIA operative and getting to jetset around the world to all kinds of exotic locales, but there’s also a whole lot of frantic running, jumping, dodging bullets and withstanding torture. As such, this week’s arrival of the fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” on Prime Video marks just another day on the job for the titular spy. And boy, is it great to have him back — even if only to say goodbye.
This final batch of six episodes arrives on the heels of Season 3 last December, and things haven’t slowed down. Having cleared his name after finding himself implicated in a global conspiracy last time, Jack (John Krasinski) is now acting deputy director of the CIA, biding his time while acting director Elizabeth Wright (Betty Gabriel) awaits her Senate confirmation.

Plot: The fourth-and-final season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan finds the titular character on his most dangerous mission yet: facing an enemy both foreign and domestic. As the new CIA Acting Deputy Director, Jack Ryan is tasked with unearthing internal corruption, and in doing so, uncovers a series of suspicious black ops that could expose the vulnerability of the country. As Jack and the team investigate how deep the corruption runs, he discovers a far-worse reality—the convergence of a drug cartel with a terrorist organization—ultimately revealing a conspiracy much closer to home and testing our hero’s belief in the system he has always fought to protect.

Since its release on Amazon Prime Video, Jack Ryan has enjoyed above-average ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, and Metacritic. Also referred to as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, the series is set in the same “Ryanverse” created by Tom Clancy. However, its storyline isn’t based on Clancy’s novels. The 1990 film adaptation of Tom Clancy's "The Hunt for Red October" is a sturdy, tension-filled submarine thriller featuring fine work from Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. As an author, Clancy was known for writing potboiler action stories set in the world of the military and he was especially known for his attention to detail. As a director, filmmaker John McTiernan was known for delivering successful blockbusters like "Predator" and "Die Hard" by entertainingly establishing the geography of the action and letting his actors make magic within those spaces.
But when McTiernan tried to take a realistic approach to the undersea elements of "The Hunt for Red October," Paramount executives shut him down by stepping in, taking the film away from one visual effects company, and handing it to the team at Industrial Light and Magic (Ilm) in order to replace the look McTiernan wanted with something more conventional.

As he slowly uncovers the truth, Reacher stumbles on a vast conspiracy involving violent criminals who don't take kindly to outsiders.

Jordan-directed boxing pic Creed III for Amazon/MGM, Jordan’s Outlier Society will team with the Mission: Impossible franchise’s Christopher McQuarrie to produce Iron Curtain, a new action thriller in early development at Amazon Studios.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. But McQuarrie and Emmy winner Erik Jendresen (Band of Brothers) will handle the rewrites on McQuarrie’s original screenplay. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce for Outlier Society, which has had a first-look film deal and overall TV deal with Amazon since 2021.
McQuarrie penned the script for Iron Curtain back in 2003 and while he initially set up the property with Intermedia, rights later transferred to Resurgence Media Group, where they remained for years. Twitch‘s new CEO Dan Clancy is trying to put in more face time with streamers.
Bloomberg reports that after a rocky takeover last month, Clancy is meeting with creators like Maya Higa. The goal is ostensibly to understand what Twitch’s biggest streamers–and therefore moneymakers, for themselves but, crucially, for Twitch–want from it.
Before anyone gets hyped, that doesn’t mean Twitch is reconsidering the largely disliked switch in revenue split from 70/30 (in favor of creators) to 50/50. In fact, the platform seems to be doubling down on that decision. Maybe not surprising, considering Clancy was the one who wrote the company blog post announcing it.
Clancy told Bloomberg that post revenue split changes, Twitch’s focus is “about growing the pie.”
It’s already said it’s working on improving discoverability, and Clancy reaffirmed that both to Bloomberg and in a recent appearance on creator SpawnOnMe‘s Twitch stream.

Amazon‘s latest round of layoffs will impact employees at Twitch.
In a public memo, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the ecommerce giant plans to lay off 9,000 more employees by “mid to late April.” That’s in addition to the 18,000 people it cut in fall 2022 and earlier this year.
Jassy said layoffs will “mostly” affect people in Amazon Web Services, in its People, Experience, and Technology team, in advertising, and at Twitch.
“This was a difficult decision, but one that we think is best for the company long term,” he wrote.
He added that all of Amazon’s layoffs of late have been due to internal evaluations of “what customers most care about,” which “sometimes led to role reductions, sometimes led to moving people from one initiative to another, and sometimes led to new openings where we don’t have the right skills match from our existing team members.”
