Kian How is a contemporary composer and sound designer based in Shanghai, China with a focus on video games. Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, he began his professional involvement in music at age 15 as a guitar teacher and soon became a seasoned instructor and session musician throughout his high school and college years. He attended the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he graduated with honors in Film Scoring and Electronic Production & Design.
He got a kick-start into his game audio career when he was hired fresh out of college as a sound designer in the award winning game audio production studio dSonic Inc(Bioshock, Brutal Legend) in Boston. During his time at the facility, he's had the privilege to work on high profile games such as Eve Online and Dust 514(CCP Games), SpecOps:The Line(2K Games), Splatterhouse(Namco Bandai), Test Drive Unlimited 2(Atari Games) and the 2013 BAFTA's "Best Game Award" winner Dishonored(Bethesda).
After his stint in Boston, Kian spent some time in Los Angeles, California producing audio for indie Film/TV productions before taking up the Audio Lead position at Spicy Horse Games, the largest western independent studio in China founded by industry icon American Mcgee(American Mcgee's Alice, Grimm). Some of Kian's notable works at Spicy include Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, for which he produced a traditional Japanese inspired soundtrack that has been compared to the likes of Jeff Van Dyck's Shogun 2 soundtrack.
