Ballerina vampire movie "Abigail" might be set in the Boston area, but it was filmed almost entirely on location in Dublin — once the home of "Dracula" author Bram Stoker. During a visit to the set of "Abigail" last year, I also visited the 300-year-old library frequented by Stoker, whose signature can still be seen in the visitor's book. Though the figure of the vampire existed in folklore before "Dracula," Stoker's version of the creature became the blueprint for the modern vampire in pop culture. Notably, the quirk of vampires having no reflection originated with Stoker's novel.
Dracula is also one of the original Universal Monsters, so when Universal returned to the vampire pool for "Abigail," star Melissa Barrera felt it was only appropriate to include a little nod to Stoker's novel. Though each member of the heist crew hired to kidnap little Abigail has a "rat pack" name to conceal...

Stars: Hannaj Bang Bendz, Dean Marshall, Sean Cronin, Mark Topping, Ayvianna Snow, Carl Wharton, Jasmine Sumner | Written and Directed by Steve Lawson
Amidst a busy filmography, Wrath of Dracula marks the third 2023 released feature for writer/director Steve Lawson – including the interesting Ripper’s Revenge. Inspired by Bram Stoker’s iconic 1897 novel, the story begins with Mina Harker (Hannaj Bang Bendz) receiving a letter from her husband, Jonathan Harker (Dean Marshall), about how he’s a prisoner at Castle Dracula. She travels to Transylvania intending to help her beloved, where she discovers a decimated village fearful of the mysterious Count Dracula (Sean Cronin), and the man determined to hunt the Count, Van Helsing (Mark Topping).
Considering how often vampires are brought to the screen, particularly when adapting Stoker’s novel, it becomes difficult to find a way to make these new takes stand apart within a crowded field. Despite putting the...

Similar to George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead spawning countless new zombie creations, Bram Stoker's Dracula is fertile creative ground for storytellers to take the world's most famous vampire in exciting (and terrifying!) new directions. Age of Reptiles creator and the longtime storyboard artist and character designer behind films such as Apollo 13, The Incredibles, and Men in Black, Ricardo Delgado is bringing his unique take on the iconic bloodsucker to life in his new illustrated novel Dracula of Transylvania from Clover Press, and a Kickstarter campaign has officially been launched for the ambitious book!

Nuns with stakes at the ready, crucifixes, bats, and, of course exposed neck flesh all feature in the bloody first trailer for the hotly anticipated BBC and Netflix adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula story.
The dark teaser trailer comes complete with a “horror” warning label and does not disappoint fans of the genre. It opens with an image of blood splashing onto parchment before offering glimpses of a fly crawling into an eyeball, a gruesome dislodged fingernail, and a vampire in a crate.
To the strains of “Psycho”-esque music and screams, Claes Bang bares his fangs as the count. He ominously tells what appears to be a soon-to-be victim: “Stay calm – you’re doing very well.”
This series follows Dracula from his origins in Eastern Europe to his battles with Van Helsing’s descendant and beyond. The trailer dropped at London Comic Con over the weekend.

Sherlock might not be returning any time soon, but at least creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are working on reimagining another classic literary character for the modern age. Dracula‘s about to go before the cameras but, as we’ve become used to with shows from Moffat and Gatiss, we still don’t know much about how the duo are going to approach the immortal vampire in a fresh way.
While speaking to the Radio Times though, the writers have now teased what their big hook into the story was. When asked about the challenges of making Dracula, they revealed that it’s difficult writing a protagonist who’s irrevocably evil, especially when they’ve set themselves the task of making the Count the hero this time around.
“There’s lots of things that are challenging about Dracula,” Moffat told Rt. “Having an evil lead character is actually really difficult.

Bruno Ganz, the Swiss actor whose work ranged from playing an angel in Wim Wenders’ “Wings of Desire” to an on-the-edge-of-defeat Adolf Hitler in the much-memed “Downfall,” has died at age 77.
He died at his home in Zurich on Friday after a diagnosis of colon cancer, his agent told France 24.
In his long career, Ganz appeared in more than 80 films and TV movies, mostly in Europe. He starred as a hit man opposite Dennis Hopper in Wenders’ 1977 film noir “The American Friend,” and then reteamed with the director a decade later for “Wings of Desire,” playing an angel sent to earth to comfort dying humans, who begins to long for humanity for himself.

Dracula - he'll suck your blood, turn you into a creature of the night, and . . . accidentally cause you and your costar to get married on the set of your latest film? At least, that's what may or may not have happened to Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves. While sitting down with Entertainment Weekly to promote their latest collaboration, the rom-com Destination Wedding, the pair began to reflect on a previous film they'd done together, 1992's Bram Stoker's Dracula.
In the horror-drama, Ryder plays Mina Murray to Reeves's Jonathan Harker, while Gary Oldman was tasked with playing a version of the iconic vampire. And, apparently, there was also a real-life Romanian priest on set for a wedding scene, meaning the vows Ryder and Reeves say as Mina and Jonathan could, technically, have bonded them for real.

Here's an interesting bit of movie trivia that Winona Ryder recently dropped. According to her, she and Keanu Reeves might have actually been married for real while shooting Bram Stoker's Dracula back in 1992.
In the film, Reeves’ character Jonathan Harker and Ryder’s character Mina Harker get married in a scene set in Romania, and as it turns out director Francis Ford Coppola ended up using a real Romanian priest to marry them.
While promoting their upcoming film Destination Wedding, Ryder and Reeves talked to Entertainment Weekly and reflected on this moment. Ryder said:
"We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest[...] We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married."
Reeves' initial reaction is pretty funny because he plays along as if it's a joke saying,...

Are congratulations in order for Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves?! While promoting their new film Destination Wedding, the 46-year-old actress revealed that she and Keanu, 53, "actually got married" back in 1992 while shooting the movie Dracula. "We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to God, I think we’re married in real life," Winona began before explaining that the movie's director, Francis Ford Coppola, "used a real Romanian priest" to conduct her character Mina Harker's wedding to Keanu's character, Jonathan Harker. So I think we’re married," she told Keanu during their sit-down with Entertainment Weekly to which he replied, "We said yes?" "Don’t you remember that? It was on Valentine’s Day," Winona continued to which Keanu said, "Oh my gosh, we’re married." If the...

Who said movies can't reflect real life? Unless, of course, the lines between film and reality are a bit blurred. Winona Ryder can sympathize. The Stranger Things actress explained to Entertainment Weekly that she and Keanu Reeves might have actually gotten married while filming Dracula in 1992. In the Francis Ford Coppola rendition of the Bram Stoker novel, Ryder plays Mina Murray, the fiancée of Jonathan Harker (Reeves). As it turns out, Coppola called in a real Romanian priest to preside over the fictional characters' marriage, but perhaps it wasn't all make-believe. "I swear to god I think we're married in real life," she said. "We shot the master and he did the...
