It seems today that all you see is cartoon shows with little continuity.
Nevertheless, Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy, as obscene and silly as it may be, decides to switch up its “canon” every so often. Whether it’s due to the passing of a cast member, attempts at a ratings stunt, or (unintentional) acts of progressiveness for its characters’ development, the Griffin family’s world within Quahog for the past 25 years of airing has only expanded.
Here are some of the most significant canon changes in Family Guy history.
Revival With Yolo Energy
Due to low ratings, Family Guy faced the cancellation gun early into its lifespan. But in its death, the great bird-is-the-word got around via DVD sales and rerun airings on Adult Swim. Thus, in its rebirth on Fox in 2005, the show became cruder, bloodier, and edgier than ever, both in its art style and spirit. The...

Mila Kunis is shutting down the possibility of returning to That ’90s Show Season 2, including Ashton Kutcher.
In a new interview, the actress revealed that she and Kutcher would not be reprising their That ’70s Show characters when the sequel series returns to Netflix.
“No,” Kunis told Et when asked if she and her husband Kutcher would return to the sitcom. “I mean, we did our thing, and they introduced our son in the show.”
Kunis, who was on the red carpet of the PaleyFest in L.A. to celebrate Family Guy, where she voices Meg Griffin, was alongside her co-star Seth Green, who interjected to say he would guest star on That ’90s Show.
“I’ve already done an episode of it, and I’m going back to do another one,” Green said.
Green had a recurring role on That ’70s Show, playing Mitch Miller, the nemesis of Topher Grace’s Eric Forman.

“Family Guy” creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane shared insight at PaleyFest on whether or not the Griffin family will ever make it to the big screen in a full-length feature film. The show’s cast also brought the house down Friday with a live table read of upcoming episode “The Edible Arrangement” and nine performances of musical classics from the series as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Without giving too much of the goodness away, the episode the cast did a table read for — written by Travis Bowe — is titled “The Edible Arrangement.” It’s centered on Lois and Stewie bonding after consuming a few of Brian’s weed-infused gummies. The episode features the first time Lois has ever heard Stewie talk, which provides Stewie with the perfect opportunity to tell her all about his old plot to murder her.

Family Guy is 22 seasons in and it doesn’t look like Seth MacFarlane has any plans to end the beloved animated series anytime soon.
The creator and star of the popular show recently told the Los Angeles Times in a new profile celebrating 25 years since the show initially aired, “At this point, I don’t see a good reason to stop.”
“People still love it,” he said. “It makes people happy and it funds some good causes. It’s a lot of extraneous cash that you can donate to Rainforest Trust and you can still go out to dinner that night.”
MacFarlane continued, “There was a time when I thought, it’s time to wrap it up. At this point, we’ve reached escape velocity. I don’t know that there’s any reason to stop at this point unless people get sick of it. Unless the numbers show that people just are,...

Teenager Meg Griffin isn’t only an afterthought to her family (cartoon dad Peter regularly forgets about her existence even when she’s standing right next to him), the character also didn’t appear in the 1995 student film from which Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane developed his hit animated comedy.
MacFarlane made animated short ‘The Life of Larry’ while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design in the 1990s. It featured “loveable but tactless lower middle class” dad Larry, his supportive wife Lois, their heavy-set blonde, baseball-cap-wearing son Milt, and “incisive, cynical” talking dog named Steve, plus all the cutaway gags and pop culture parodies for which Family Guy would become famous… but no super-intelligent baby, and no butt-of-every-joke teenage daughter Meg.
One-off 1997 sequel ‘Larry and Steve’ lost Larry’s wife and son to focus on the talking dog, but by the time of the seven-minute 1998 Family Guy pilot,...

Jim Ladd, the famed rock radio disc jockey in 1970s Los Angeles who went on to host a show on SiriusXM, has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 75.
Ladd’s on-air colleague at the satellite radio service, Meg Griffin, shared the news of his death on Saturday on its Deep Tracks channel, which the two worked on together. The station plays album-oriented rock that the freeform DJ was known for during his decades-long career.
He first gained nationwide recognition when he hosted the hourlong, nationally syndicated show Innerview at Kmet in Los Angeles. The first of its kind, it aired weekly on more than 160 stations from the 1970s to the late ’90s and offered an in-depth look at music from the artist’s perspective. Ladd sat down with legends like Led Zeppelin, the Beach Boys, the Bee Gees, John Lennon and Aerosmith, among many others.

Julius Wu, Dominic Bianchi and James Purdum‘s Family Guy season 22, episode 1: “Fertilized Megg” centers around one of the series’ main protagonists, Meg Griffin (voiced by Mila Kunis), agreeing to give birth to the surrogate child of the series’ LGBTQ couple, Bruce and Jeffrey (both voiced by Mike Henry).
After months of burdening her family with her needs, Meg eventually gives birth to Bruce and Jeffrey’s baby, whom they name Liza Judy Barbara. Upon worrying that they can’t handle the responsibility of raising a child, Bruce and Jeffrey allow Meg to take care of her for a few days, much to the dismay of her mother, Lois (voiced by Alex Borstein).
To this episode’s credit, the plot was executed well as it effectively showed the struggles of pregnancy while also ending with an insightful message of how a good parent can come from anywhere.

American Dad Season 7 is approaching fast, and Rachael MacFarlane (Hayley Smith's voice) sat down with us to discuss the show.
American Dad airs on TBS after initially being canceled on Fox in 2014.
Created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman, American Dad follows the Smith family to deal with never-ending antics.
Stan Smith (Seth MacFarlane) is a CIA agent painfully dedicated to homeland security.
His home life includes doting wife Francine (Wendy Schaal), a ditzy housewife, liberal daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane), and socially awkward teenage son Steve (Scott Grimes).
Living with the family is Klaus (Dee Bradley Baker), a goldfish with the brain of an East German Olympic ski jumper, and Roger (Seth MacFarlane), an escaped alien from Area 51.
The Smiths have already gone through a lot of shenanigans, like Hayley's boyfriend Jeff (Jeff Fischer) being sent to space, Roger "birthing" a mini-alien named Rogu (Baker), and plenty of other science-fiction occurrences.
