At a late point in “Summer With Hope,” as the film’s various walls of conflict are closing menacingly in on each other, and the camera has seemingly surrendered to a state of permanent penumbra, our protagonist’s agonized mother utters a line that could be the synopsis for a million thrillers and melodramas that have gone before. “We came here for a simple reason,” she sighs, “and it got complicated.” From the audience’s point of view, however, nothing in Sadaf Foroughi’s elegant, escalatingly tragic second feature is as simple as it seems to the characters. The film often leaves us literally in the dark, piecing together key events and circumstances in an ostensibly straightforward story — about a teenage swimmer and his elders, invested in the outcome of crucial national qualifiers — that is folded and fractured by the politics and tacit social codes of modern Iran.

Park Hye Jin’s 2018 debut Ep, If U Want It, knit together sleek, understated house and brusque hip-hop to great effect. She sang and rapped in both English and her native Korean, throwing out jabbing, chanted phrases in blasé monotone over stubby keyboard loops and no-frills drum programming. Songs like “ABC” and “I Don’t Care” served to demonstrate how much a gifted producer can accomplish with very few ingredients.

Troye Sivan, Charli Xcx and Pussy Riot were among the artists taking the stage in Los Angeles on Thursday night at the first-ever Go West Fest, which coincided with the first weekend of Pride Month and served as an unofficial kick off to L.A. Pride. The Live Nation-produced event — named after the 1979 Village People song about finding a utopia that’s free from discrimination — brought together an almost-entirely Lgbtq lineup, who performed before a near-capacity crowd at the Wiltern Theatre. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales went to advocacy organization GLAAD.

Mnek’s debut album, Language, comes with a statement of purpose: “It’s time to step up to the front now, so you can hear me out.”
The 23-year-old writer-producer Uzoechi Emenike may feel that this introduction is necessary, because he’s spent a number of years holed up in the studio penning hits for a slew of English acts, including Duke Dumont, Dua Lipa and Rudimental. American listeners are less likely to know Mnek’s work, though he wrote on Madonna’s Rebel Heart and Beyoncé’s “Hold Up.

The largest Halloween fest in North America hit San Bernardino over this past weekend, as Escape: Psycho Circus took over the Nos Events Center for two nights of music and mayhem. With 125,000 people in attendance during the course of two nights, Escape hosted over 50 performers on four stages during the 2017 event to create one of the biggest Halloween parties from the team at Insomniac.
Friday night saw powerhouse acts like DJ Snake, Flosstradamus, Nero, Marshmello, Rezz, and Datsik play to packed crowds on the three main outdoor stages, while the likes of Green Velvet, Joseph Capriati, and Jamie Jones held things down at the Chopping Block Warehouse. Anticipation for 2017’s major festivals is at an all time high, with Coachella‘s lineup serving as the holy grail of the entire season. We’ve already heard some rumors about the alleged headliners, while DJ Khaled inadvertently spilled the beans on his slot at the festival. Now we have another enticing update to ponder with a list that attempts to predict the entire lineup.
A website called TravelGrom has consistently made predictions about Coachella lineups in the past with a high degree of accuracy compared to the average rumor, and they’ve just offered up their projections for 2017. While the information is just conjecture at this point, TravelGrom predicted last year’s lineup with 64% accuracy. If that figure holds true again, over half of the list will wind up on the official lineup.
The alleged lineup includes a diverse array of styles, with representation from Edm, Rock, Rap, Pop and everything in between.

Over the past weekend (or Halloweekend, as many horror fans lovingly refer to as that final Friday through Sunday of October), over 110,000 fans descended upon the Nos Events Center in San Bernardino to celebrate the electronic music scene and everything we love about Halloween.
During the festival, Escape’s stages hosted over 60 live acts performing for thousands of attendees on four stages, including the likes of Kaskade, Benny Benassi, Tiesto, The Chainsmokers, Duke Dumont, Joyride, Tchami, Firebeatz, Yellow Claw, and Claude VonStroke (who opened with a killer mix of John Carpenter’s Halloween theme—the perfect way to celebrate the season).
The entire Nos Events Center grounds were decked out to the nines for Halloween, complete with a circus midway that brought a small-town feeling into the center of the sprawling festival, featuring a tented area where oddities and other entertainers performed throughout both evenings, with Psycho Circus actors posing for pictures with fans.

We’ve heard some great new material out of Tchami over the last couple of months, ranging from his recently unveiled collaboration with G-house mastermind Malaa to his bass house tinged single “Siaw.” Following up on those memorable efforts, the Parisian producer delivered his debut essential mix for BBC Radio 1 over the weekend, delivering a top notch two hour set filled to the brim with choice house cuts and undeniable energy.
Tchami delivers big with his first ever essential mix, offering up an endless array of shuffling dance cuts with his go to genre of future house being represented strongly throughout. A number of big name producers grace the playlist, including Disclosure, AC Slater, Malaa, Dusky, Duke Dumont and more, and each song runs seamlessly from one to the next.
There’s no shortage of bouncy basslines and hard driving beats on Tchami‘s latest effort, as he delivers a solid two hour mix.

Jauz and Marshmello are two of the hottest up and coming producers in dance music right now, and the last year has seen both artists achieving tremendous growth and building some serious followings. Considering their status in Edm, it’s only natural that the two musicians would team up on a release, and today they’ve done just that with the new single “Magic.”
The new collab is a future bass styled track, featuring Marshemello’s characteristic sugar-puffed vibes. Trap rhythms keep the beat throughout the effort, as a whining synth lead and wobbly bass line take over throughout the drops. “Magic” sees both producers blending their styles together, and fans will no doubt be pleased with the release.

The Los Angeles DJ/producer previously endorsed the platform in a video that showcased its functionality as a sample library, and has now shared another video in which he discusses having used it to collaborate with Marshmello on their remix of Duke Dumont’s “Need You (100%)”.
Splice is somewhat similar to a service like Google Docs in that producers who use it to create music can grant others permissions. Regarding the collaboration, Jauz said:
I just put it up on Splice, added him as a collaborator, and collected it and saved, so that anytime he wanted to work on it he didn’t even need to let me know. Can UK producer Duke Dumont be stopped? The man has not put out a bad track yet, delivering hit after hit with songs like “Need U 100%,” “I Got U,” “The Giver (Reprise)” and “Won’t Look Back.” Now, he’s struck gold once again with his newest piece of music, titled “Ocean Drive.”
Set to appear on Dumont’s Blasé Boys Club Ep series, the first part of which drops on October 2nd, this new track fits comfortably into his wheelhouse, sporting a chilled, deep house vibe with just enough groove to get you moving. It’s got a very retro feel to it as well, transporting us back to the 80s with its dark synths and glitchy pop notes.
All in all, “Ocean Drive” is another impressive release from Duke Dumont and one that cements him firmly as one of the most exciting producers in Edm at the moment.
