The Crow: Bill Skarsgård's Eric Draven Is Ready For A Fight In New Still From Rupert Sanders' Remake
Created by James O'Barr as a means of dealing with the death of his fiancée at the hands of a drunk driver, The Crow #1 was released in 1989 and became an instant classic. A big screen adaptation starring the late Brandon Lee followed in 1994 and it too is beloved.
As a result, the odds are already stacked against this summer's remake. Ghost in the Shell director Rupert Sanders is at the helm, while John Wick: Chapter 4 star Bill Skarsgård takes on the role of Eric Draven.
The response to the first trailer wasn't overly positive and the movie's take on the title character - which has replaced the iconic makeup with Joker-style face tattoos - has been similarly divisive. So, yeah, we expect The Crow to struggle when it swoops into theaters in August.
Now, we have a new look at Skarsgård's transformation and it looks like Eric is ready for a fight.

The original 1994 adaptation of The Crow still has a huge, loyal following, so there was already a certain amount of scepticism surrounding Lionsgate's decision to develop a reboot. When the first trailer was released, that apprehension turned to outright disgust for a lot of fans.
Are people being a little quick to judge based off a single teaser? Perhaps, but for many, Brandon Lee will always be the only Eric Draven, and that's all there is to it.
Total Film interviewed Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who played heroic cop Sergeant Daryl Albrecht in The Crow, for the Goth classic's 30th anniversary, and the actor admitted that he's only recently been able to revisit the film due to the tragic accident that ended Lee's life during filming.

Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw has revealed that shooting has begun on Ryan Coogler’s upcoming vampire movie, starring Michael B Jordan.
A 15-tog duvet of mystery swaddles the next film from Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler. At present, we don’t even have a title.
That secrecy is underlined by an Instagram post from cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who’s taken to the platform to tease that filming is underway on Coogler’s film. Arkapaw’s post – which simply reads “get ready” – is accompanied by an image of the director of photography holding up a clapper board. The film’s title – or at least its working title – has been tantalisingly obscured by a row of black hearts.
Having scrutinised this image for several minutes now, we’ve concluded that the movie’s title begins with an R. And there’s a gap in the middle, which suggests it’s two words.

“Good evening, Hollywood-fucking-Bowl!” Paul McCartney exclaimed to the flock of Parrotheads gathered before him. A sold-out crowd had assembled in the famed Los Angeles venue on Thursday to celebrate the legacy of Jimmy Buffett at “Keep the Party Going,” a laid-back, one-night-only tribute show full of eclectic guests.
“I had the great pleasure of knowing Jimmy, and like everyone else on the bill tonight, I said, ‘This is one great man.’ He was generous. He was funny. He’d done just about everything in his life,” McCartney said, before launching into “Let It Be.

Lionsgate may have pushed the release date of The Crow remake back from June 7th to August 23rd yesterday, but they still promoted the film during their panel at CinemaCon today, showing attendees a new trailer. We don’t know when that trailer is going to be making its way online, but JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance and reports that the new trailer reveals more about the film’s story.
Writing from the panel, Lance said attendees were told this version of The Crow is “a complete re-imagining that is not meant to compete with the original. The Lionsgate rep made mention how the original graphic novel is different than the beloved movie and made a point that the trailer was divisive, but they want to tell this story for a new generation.” As for what was shown in the new trailer, Lance writes, “An afterlife way-station...

The vengeful spirit Eric Draven first appeared in James O'Barr's indie comic "The Crow" in 1989. He became a Goth household name in 1994 thanks to the popularity of Alex Proyas' ultra-stylized, uber-Noir film adaptation starring Brandon Lee, who was infamously killed on the set of "The Crow" thanks to a misfiring prop gun. The teens of 1994 venerated the film, and "The Crow" was deeply beloved by many. The film warranted several sequels, including "The Crow: City of Angels" in 1994, "The Crow: Salvation" in 2000, and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" in 2005. O'Barr's characters were also featured in the 1998 TV series "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven."
Although O'Barr's Goth sensibilities were a product of their time, filmmakers and producers have been trying to get a "Crow" remake off the ground for a long while, and the project has changed hands almost a dozen times in the last 20 years. After a lot of juggling,...

Brandon Lee’s The Crow is considered a cult classic today, but the film was plagued with massive problems starting with the tragic death of the lead star in the middle of filming. Lee’s unfortunate demise was caused by an accidental firing of a gun which had a routine dummy bullet that unfortunately ended up killing him.
Brandon Lee in The Crow
This horrific incident ultimately led to a domino effect of troubles which included finding a replacement for the lead actor to complete the film. This disaster on set prompted Hollywood director Chad Stahelski to take major precautions while handling firearms in his blockbuster film John Wick. The former stuntman also exposed the uncomfortable truth behind the use of guns in the industry.
How Brandon Lee‘s Death Influenced Chad Stahelski
While any form of death is tragic, the worst kinds are the ones that could have easily been avoided.

Rob Zombie has said that for every one film project of his that moves forward, there are five potential projects that fall by the wayside. We haven’t heard of quite that many unmade Rob Zombie movies, but we have heard of several over the years that never got off the ground… and unfortunately, most of them sounded pretty interesting. A little over a year ago, Zombie had said he didn’t know what his next movie is going to be, but he did know what it’s not going to be: he won’t be continuing his Firefly franchise, and he doesn’t want to make a sequel to The Munsters (which was poorly received). So while he figures out his next cinematic move, we we have put together a list of Rob Zombie Movies We Want To See!

When we last left Sheryl Crow, five years ago, she’d essentially retired from making albums. With its all-star cast, from Willie Nelson and Neil Young through St. Vincent and Jason Isbell, her 2019 LP Threads truly felt like a retirement party attended by all her musician pals; all that was missing was a gold watch. But like many before her, Crow couldn’t cure herself of the music-making bug, and out of record retirement she’s come with Evolution.

He first appeared in World’s Finest #3 (1941) and has since become a mainstay in the Batman Rogues Gallery. While not one of the most physically imposing figures, Scarecrow’s psychological tactics make him a truly formidable foe.

Original “The Crow” filmmaker Alex Proyas is voicing his feelings about the cult film’s long-gestating remake, helmed by Rupert Sanders. Proyas directed the 1994 original film based on the graphic novel about a man who returns from the dead to take revenge on the person who murdered him and his fiancée.
Twenty-eight year old actor Brandon Lee, the son of martial artist Bruce Lee, was killed on set during the final days of production when a prop gun fired during the making of Proyas’ film. ‘The Crow’ – Original Director Alex Proyas Elaborates Further on His Distate for the Upcoming Remake
The director of original classic The Crow, Alex Proyas (Dark City) has made no secret of the fact that he’s not a fan of what he’s seen from the remake so far. Proyas has made it clear over the years that he’s never been in favor of the original movie being remade – he wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook back in 2017 explaining why he feels a remake is disrespectful to the late Brandon Lee’s memory and legacy – and he’s very much sticking to that opinion.
Taking to Facebook this morning, Proyas elaborated a bit further on some of his recent posts slamming the new take on The Crow, calling back to his aforementioned comments from 2017.

One could say that the reboot of The Crow (1994) was simply cursed. Going through ups and downs ever since its announcement, no one knew if the film would even come to fruition. However, after years and years of setbacks, the reboot will finally be released this year, albeit without Jason Momoa. Actor Jason Momoa was all set to play the lead in the reboot, which he stated was his dream role.

Not only did the actor say goodbye to the reboot, but director Corin Hardy, too, packed his bags and left. Taking to social media, both Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy put out their sides of the story.

The Crow, the forthcoming movie directed by Rupert Sanders, has been the talk of the town since its announcement in 2022. The action-thriller is a reimagining of the same-titled 1994 Alex Proyas film, featuring Brandon Lee in the lead role. With its top-notch cast and storytelling, the $94 million movie was a huge box-office success and struck a chord with the audience. Now the official trailer for Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming flick has further piqued the viewer’s interest.
However, some of the most disturbing information regarding the movie—which will hit theaters on June 7—has just recently come to light. In just one day, the trailer garnered a whopping 53,000 dislikes on YouTube, in contrast to just 42,000 likes. These figures put a serious damper on the movie’s potential to do well at the box office.

When it comes to the supernatural and horror genre, Bill Skarsgård’s choices seem to indicate that he has an affinity to play grim roles. While the Swedish star will be seen in The Crow reboot this summer in which he reprises the iconic role of Brandon Lee, Skarsgård terrified audiences in the 2017 film It where he played a creepy clown named Pennywise.

Sfb Games has announced that their throwback Survival Horror title Crow Country will launch on May 9th on Steam and PlayStation 5. The demo that was made available last month during Steam Next Fest is still up on Steam, just in case you need to that “try before you buy” thing.
Accompanying the release date announcement is a new trailer, which gives another short-but-sweet look at the game’s aesthetic, which gets appropriately dark in a hurry.
Crow Country takes place in the year 1990. It’s been two years since the mysterious disappearance of Edward Crow and the abrupt closure of his theme park, the eponymous Crow Country. You are Mara Forest, and you’re searching for some answers from Crow. Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming film, The Crow, just released its trailer, and unfortunately, the response from the audience seems to lean more toward the negative than the positive. The trailer arrived with a new still of Bill Skarsgard as the titular character and the official theatrical poster.
Skarsgard (It‘s Pennywise the Clown) stars as Eric Draven, a character he says he was honored to take on.
“But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. The comic book "The Crow," created by James O'Barr in 1989, should be considered a seminal work in the then-growing Goth movement. The comics were about a man named Eric who was engaged to a woman named Shelly. One evening, Eric and Shelly are savagely beaten and assaulted. Eric is shot in the head but remains alive long enough to witness Shelly's horrible murder.
His story doesn't end there. The titular Crow appears over Eric's body and magically resurrects him, sending him on a quest for blood revenge. The unspeaking crow seems to want Eric to kill the punks that murdered Shelly, but also seemingly chastises him for brooding and remaining hung up on Shelly's death. Be angry, brood, but do not brood, and do not be angry. It's super-Goth. The comic was popular enough to warrant a celebrated film adaptation in 1994 starring Brandon Lee and directed by Alex Proyas. The film was ultra-stylized,...

Everything about the first trailer for the reboot of The Crow looks familiar. Sure, some of that is to be expected, as the 2024 movie retells the story from the 1994 cut classic. And yes, The Crow 2024 does make some obvious choices, casting Bill Skarsgård as a weird tall skinny guy and Danny Huston as a bad guy.
But besides the paint-by-numbers approach that director Rupert Sanders seems to be taking with the property, the really familiar part is The Crow‘s approach to comic book adaptations. Those young enough to have listened to the soundtrack to The Crow back in the ’90s will remember that the current pop culture landscape seemed impossible 30 years ago. Only the most recognizable superheroes got translated to live-action, and even then received a radical make-over, sanding down all of the colorful comic book aspects and stuck into a standard action flick.

If we learned anything from John Wick 4, it’s that it takes a surprising amount of effort to kill Bill Skarsgård. It’s the lesson learned, too, in the long-gestating remake of The Crow. The 1994 original is a cult favourite, in which the late Brandon Lee hit back against the criminal underworld as the resurrected Eric Draven. This new version of the story – directed by Rupert Sanders – casts Bill Skarsgård as the young lover brought back from the dead to try and save the soul of his fellow murdered partner, here played by FKA Twigs. The first trailer promises plenty of gothic stylings (with a 2024 twist), tons of bloody violence, and considerable levels of angst. Give it a watch here:
While there’ll undoubtedly be fans of the ’94 film who refuse to acknowledge any other version of The Crow, you have to admit – there are some striking images here.

“I killed you,” says a man. “Yeah, you did,” says the Crow, played by Bill Skarsgård, as he cocks a gun at the man’s head in the trailer for the upcoming remake of the phantasmagoric revenge movie from 1994.

Based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr, the first version of The Crow was released in 1994 and told the tragic story of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly Webster. Later this year, we’ll be getting a remake of The Crow, with the story of Eric and Shelly being told all over again. It seems kind of strange to do a remake and revisit characters in a franchise that lends itself to the anthology format, where each film can be focused on a different vengeful, undead person… but it does make business sense, because The Crow remake is getting more attention than the three Crow sequels ever got. But those Crow sequels do have their fans, and Scream Factory is about to celebrate one of them – The Crow: Salvation from 2000 – with a limited edition Blu-ray release on March 26th.

The brand new The Crow trailer features ultra-violence and a lot of shirtless Bill Skarsgård. Take a peek.
Is this a safe space to admit that the first-look photos of Rupert Sanders’ The Crow remake/reboot/whatever we’re calling it, didn’t have me convinced?
