Wisin & Yandel’s first album, Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio, came out in 2000. For millennial hip-hop heads, that was the year Outkast’s Stankonia and Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele dropped. For rock fans, that’d be the year Radiohead released Kid A. And for zoomers, well, that was three years before Olivia Rodrigo was even born.
All of that is a long-winded way of saying Wisin has been around for a minute now. But if his new album, Mr. W, is any indication, he’s an O.G. who...

Enrique Iglesias is revisiting his 2022 single “Espacio en tu Corazón,” but this time releasing it in English as a duet with Miranda Lambert.
On Thursday, the Spanish star welcomed the singer to his pop world with “Space in My Heart,” which hears the two musicians sing to a love-to-be.
“You don’t love me yet, but I know you will,” they harmonize in the chorus.
The track is an English-language reimagining of Iglesias’ ballad from two years ago. The Spanish version hears Iglesias sings to a love that got away.

T-Pain says he plans to continue to write country music songs as a ghostwriter.
The singer-songwriter-producer recently made headlines when he revealed that he stopped taking credit for the country songs he’s worked on because of the “racism” he dealt with in the genre.
“I wrote a lot of country songs, and the country songs that I get credit on — I wouldn’t say backlash or anything like that — but [there] was a lot of criticism of, ‘Why did they let a Black person be a part of this?’ or things like that. It was just a lot of that stuff. So I kind of just backed off from putting my name on things and just collect the money,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t need to be known for any of that. That’s fine.”
“I’m a ghostwriter [and] it’s just easier,” he continues. “Why not?...

When Bad Bunny dropped his first-ever album X100PRE, it spread through the internet like good gossip. It was Christmas Eve in 2018, the same year that Bad Bunny had exploded as a global megastar — appearing on The Tonight Show and singing during Alesso’s set at Tomorrowland — despite being an independent artist with no full-length project under his belt. What he did have was nearly hundreds of successful trap hits and a following he had named “La Nueva Religión,” which would go on to make him the most listened to...

Have we suddenly been transported back to the 2000s? Looking at the state of reggaetón right now, it might seem that way. From Baby Rasta Y Gringo recently releasing a masterclass in the genre, Chencho linking up with Wisin for the banger "Loco X Perrearte," and Tainy making his teachers proud by continuing to push the limits of perreo, there is plenty of new reggaetón for fans to be excited about. Now, Luny Tunes are back with "Sandunga," a brand new single that dropped on Nov. 2 and reaches deep into their bag of beats to remind you just how big of a role they played in making reggaetón what it is today. And acho man, it's heavy.
While the word sandunga can have different connotations in different parts of Latin America, in Puerto Rico it is an Africanismo that signifies the essence of the party. It is that essential raw,...

By now, we’ve sen Don Omar do a little bit of everything: salsa, cumbia, kuduro, danzon. But he’s always at the top of his game when he brings fans back to his old-school reggaeton days and reminds them why he’s still the Don of the genre.
His new song, “Sandunga” is no exception. The historic collaboration sees Don Omar unite reggaeton heavyweights Wisin Y Yandel and the legendary producer Luny Tunes. It’s not the first time they’ve worked together, and their connection is apparent in the song’s full-throttle sound.

"Today I announce a project that I've dedicated so much love and time to. I just know that for me and for everyone else, 'Mañana Será Bonito' (Tomorrow Will Be Pretty)."
In the video, Karol is seen sitting in a red car in Medellín, Colombia, eating an empanada, when all of a sudden, a small note appears on her windshield that reads in Spanish: "If you're sad, call me." She gets out of the car and dials the number on a payphone, and a young boy answers from what appears to be a telecommunications center run by kids. In an effort to cheer her up, he advises her to write a letter to Santa Claus, perform at a show,...

There’s nothing like two early aughts legends linking up for a hit. On Thursday, Don Omar premiered “Good Girl,” a dancefloor-ready, merengue-meets-reggae track featuring Akon.
The song opens with Akon’s unmistakable voice over reggae-inspired production before a throbbing bass welcomes Don Omar. The two artists fuse their styles as the song breaks into an electric merengue melody.
“She said she’s a good girl/Turned into a bad girl/Caught up in a bad world,” sings Akon in the chorus, before Don Omar admits in Spanish, “I don...

Ever since teaming up in the late Nineties, Wisin & Yandel have been one of the most enduring and successful duos in reggaeton’s history. Their massive hits, which include smashes such as “Rakata,” “Pam Pam,” and “Sexy Movimento,” defined and shaped the genre in the early 2000s, and they’ve continued to make giant chart-topping bangers that are a testament to their impressive career longevity.
Earlier this year, however, the duo announced that after decades together, they’d be launching one final tour called La Ultima Mision — or “the final mission.

Reggaeton legend Don Omar has been busy in the studio over the last year. After releasing the hard-hitting rap banger “Flow Hp” with Puerto Rican artist Residente in September 2021, he followed things up with a more playful and romantic track called “Soy Yo,” featuring longtime genre veteran Wisin and the Cuban duo Gente de Zona.
Don Omar is having even more fun on his latest offering: “Let’s Get Crazy” is a delightful throwback to mambo sounds that pulls in Lil Jon for an unexpected dose of energy, thanks to his signature ad-libs and call-outs.

Natti Natasha has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry, but on “Mayor Que Usted,” she takes her place among the legends. The collaboration features Daddy Yankee and Wisin & Yandel, veterans with decades of experience who have all announced that they’re retiring from music this year (Wisin & Yandel will continue on with solo careers.) Just before they close out their respective chapters, they join Natti as she draws inspiration from reggaeton’s classic era to sashay into the future.

After Rosalía released her 2018 album El Mal Querer, a baroque masterwork anchored in solemn flamenco traditions and glowing pop sounds, the Spanish artist’s world cracked wide open, and everything seemed to rush at her at once. There was endless praise: She was a creative genius. She was a hero of the avant-garde. She’d saved flamenco. Waves of criticism came with equal force: She wasn’t doing authentic flamenco. She wasn’t original. She was too commercial. Rosalía kept morphing in the spotlight, shapeshifting through singles, pulling from genres like reggaeton and hip-hop.

Rosalía’s Motomami transformation is fully underway. The Spanish singer just announced her new album will be out on March 18 and, ahead of its release, she has dropped a new track called “Saoko.” The song smashes together distorted chords, jazz flourishes, and a sample from the famed reggaeton hit “Saoco” by the genre’s titans Wisin and Daddy Yankee.
The Valentin Petit-directed video shows Rosalía hanging out in a convenience store before going on a high-octane, adrenaline-fueled joy ride with an all-girl motorbike crew. They speed along the pitch-black...

Last month, Richard Camacho, Christopher Vélez, Erick Brian Colón, and Zabdiel De Jesús — the four remaining members of Cnco — shared “Toa La Noche,” their first single since Joel Pimentel left the group in May. They’re back with a video for the track, which follows them after they accidentally drink a mystery potion that leads to a psychedelic party under the moon.
The vibe of the video is similar to the trippy, moon-lit set that they used when they debuted the single at Univision’s Premios Juventud on July 23rd.

Reggaeton isn’t all that old in the grand scheme of things, yet there’s an industry-wide yearning for the halcyon days of early perreo, which was fostered in Puerto Rico’s Black communities in the Nineties and 2000s. Artists from Bad Bunny to Rauw Alejandro have offered up tributes to the sounds of their predecessors, reminding listeners that there’s plenty of history to excavate despite the genre’s relative youth. But while newer acts have had to dig deep to capture the throwback energy that everyone is after,...

Though he’s known for a gliding voice that’s brought him to the top of the Latin music industry, the Panamanian singer Sech has always been a writer. He started scribbling in journals and putting together ideas for songs when he was a kid growing up in Río Abajo, a township of Panama City known for producing music legends such as the reggae en español icon El General. “When I was in class, I’d do that — I’d start writing songs and things that happened to me,” Sech,...

Rod Wave scored his first Number One on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums chart with SoulFly, easily brushing aside Justin Bieber’s Justice, which fell to Number Two. Unlike Justice, SoulFly — which follows last year’s Pray 4 Love — has few high-powered guest vocalists or big-name producers. But that hardly mattered: The 19-song set cruised to Number One behind 160 million streams.

On Monarca, the Puerto Rican rapper Eladio Carrion stretches the bounds of trap en español without ever abandoning its core. The follow-up to his 2020 debut, Sauce Boyz, Carrion’s latest album riffs on spiky trap corridos, drippy emo-rap, and bludgeoning drill sounds while pulling an unexpected roster of collaborators into its orbit: Reggaeton icon Yandel slides across the drunk desolation of “Discoteca,” while J Balvin barges in out of nowhere for the record’s drill moment, “Tata.” The project is a little darker and more solemn than Sauce Boyz, reflecting...

Dancing With the Stars fans could breathe a sigh of relief on Monday night, for there would be no feline-themed performances that felt akin to a psychedelic trip. No Viennese waltzes performed to “Memory” from Cats, no foxtrots set to Katy Perry’s “Roar,” and, hopefully for the rest of Season 29, no velvet onesies for any reason whatsoever.
Now that Carole Baskin and Charles Oakley — arguably this cycle’s weakest contestants — have been eliminated, we’re left with a roster of amateurs who are anywhere from decent to very, very good. But the Top 13 performance show was still unlucky for...

One August afternoon, several months into the deadliest pandemic of the century, Ozuna is striving for normalcy. Wearing a blue Lakers sweater, sneakers, long shorts, and a watch that looks more expensive than his Miami mansion, he readies himself for an impromptu basketball game with a few of his friends. Unlike other cities in the United States and Latin America, the people of South Florida are left to regulate their own personal safety measures during the outbreak. The Puerto Rican-born singer, who had just wrapped his brand new album, Enoc,...
