In 1989, the movie Best of the Best had a somewhat abbreviated run in theaters. Only grossing a mere $1.7 million, the movie was a major hit on home video and cable. That’s why, three years later, a sequel, Best of the Best 2, hit theaters… for a while. While the first film has maintained a certain cult status, the sequel, and the two more that followed, have been largely forgotten – until now on this edition of The Best Movie You Never Saw.
Best of the Best 2 came from the same creative team behind the original, including director Robert Radler and producer/ star Phillip Rhee. Intriguingly, it was co-written by a TV actor of the time named John Allen Nelson, who starred on Baywatch for a few seasons, played Paul The Wine Guy on Friends, and has shown up as a guest actor on most of the biggest shows on TV.

Austria’s refreshingly outré official submission to this year’s Oscars race (it didn’t advance to the shortlist) is a captivating exploration of glamour, schmoozing and the soul-draining superficialities of what Joni Mitchell called the star-making machinery. As with their previous features, directors Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel handle all the top-line production duties themselves on Vera, shooting on 16mm and using mostly nonprofessional actors in a blend of drama and documentary. But their latest outing is also a leap into more structured fiction, and at its center is a woman who’s no stranger to the camera.
Vera Gemma, who won the Orizzonti Award for best female performance upon the film’s Venice premiere, has been a reality star, stripper, lion tamer, writer and director, as well as an actor. She grew up on movie sets, at the feet of her famous dad, Giuliano Gemma, a beloved luminary...

While it’s not a demo, developer Pixelsplit and publisher Daedalic Entertainment have the next best thing for their upcoming psychological horror game Reveil in the form of a new Gameplay Showcase video. Joined by indie enthusiast CozyGamerKat, members of the Pixelsplit team talk about Reveil’s development, story, environment, and sound design, while also sharing the gameplay and a “never-before-seen spine-chilling chase sequence”.
In the video, viewers will experience the beginning of Reveil, as well as a short but intense segment that takes place in a later part of the story. The video follows main character Walter Thompson as he wakes up in his bedroom, just to realize soon after that this is not his home – but a place where different memories of his get interwoven with each other. 1. The Transformation of Walter White The journey of Walter White in Breaking Bad is a compelling narrative of transformation. Millions were captivated as Walter, originally a high school chemistry teacher, delved into the drug trade, eventually evolving into the notorious Heisenberg. His character arc is a stark portrayal of how pride can corrupt, contrasting with the humility-driven redemption of other characters like Hank Schrader. Walter’s peculiar habit of adopting traits from his victims, such as Krazy-8’s sandwich preferences or Mike Ehrmantraut’s drink order, adds a chilling layer to his complexity. As fans, we observed Walter’s descent into the drug...

Members of the royal family just never know what’s going to happen when they do walkabouts or attend engagements and interact with the public. Meghan Markle learned that when she was still a working royal.

But Meghan isn’t the only family member who has dealt with that royal peril. The Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) has also come across some young unpredictable fans who wanted to reach out and tug on her hair too.

What is it about a woman in charge that brings out the critics?
No matter the genre, you can always find a female lead character that gets a strong negative audience response. Call it a hot take, but we think a lot of those women deserved better than the treatment they got.
Let's be real; some of these characters are children. How terrible could they really be?
These unpopular ladies definitely deserved better from fans, and we're prepared to die on that hill.
Here's why we'll stan these women 'til the end, even if we're the only ones.
Maggie Pierce: Grey's Anatomy
The condemnation thrown at Maggie Pierce was always over the top, especially considering she's a young, gifted, Black surgeon with a complicated past whose unrelenting optimism should have charmed viewers.
It's totally understandable that folks didn't love the Ellis-Richard-love-child storyline she brought with her to Grey's Anatomy, but...

There have been many mind-blowing revelations on Finding Your Roots, the Henry Louis Gates Jr.-hosted PBS television series that employs a team of professional genealogists to trace celebrities’ ancestral histories. We’ve learned that Bernie Sanders is related to his SNL doppelgänger Larry David, that actor Joe Manganiello is part-Black and descended from slaves, and that LeVar Burton is part-white, which caused the Roots star to jokingly scream, “Nooooooo!”
The Jan. 30 episode of Finding Your Roots, now in its tenth season, focuses on comedians Bob Odenkirk and Iliza Shlesinger.

Millicent Shelton, who directed the fifth and sixth episodes of “Lessons in Chemistry,” emphasized that the relationship between Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson) and Walter (Kevin Sussman) is purely platonic, and that they bond over constructive criticism.
Episode 5 introduces Rainn Wilson’s aggressive station owner and manager Phil, who meets his match in Elizabeth’s stubbornness. His hateful views of women don’t stand a chance against Zott’s fight for equality and stress of the importance of women’s work in the kitchen. In certain ways, Phil foils Walter Pine.

The sheer number of reasons to watch Prime Video’s golden child program, The Boys seem to know no bounds. With impeccable acting, ingenious satire, and plenty of phallic double entendres, showrunner Eric Kripke and his team understand the intricacies of an entertaining superhero romp better than even genre veterans Marvel and DC. Perhaps standing out as the pinnacle of the program, though, is The Homelander.
Played with villainous thirst and supreme timing by Antony Starr (who’s criminally never even been nominated for an Emmy for the role), Homelander spoofs the worst qualities of heroes such as Captain America and Superman to give audiences a taste of what it would look like if a person actually had unlimited power. From abusing his son to allowing a plane full of innocent people to crash and perish, Homelander skews so far down a moral abyss that it would be arduous even...

Abbott Elementary star Lisa Ann Walter is calling out Megan Fox for breaking SAG-AFTRA strike rules, which prevents members from dressing as characters from film or television. Ah, weddings!
Aren't they the most joyous occasions? People eat, drink, dance, and have a good time.
And for the couple, it is an extra special time when they celebrate their love in front of friends and family.
Of course, this is the rosy, idealistic version of events because, at many weddings, many people are present out of obligation, the food might not be that good, some couples are not in love, and enemies are usually in the midst.
Mai Ling and Li Yong's wedding was a mix of both on Warrior Warrior Season 3 Episode 8.
Was the wedding beautiful? Yes. All weddings are beautiful because everyone looks their best.
Mai Ling's was no different with everyone who's everyone present.
There were some Chinese wedding traditions to observe, including a friendly sparring between Li Yong and Kong Pak, which would foreshadow something.
But the plotting never ends.

Following Mitch McConnell’s incident last week in which the Senate Minority Leader stopped speaking and stared off into space in front of cameras, Sunday’s panel on “Meet the Press” discussed the possibility of an age limit amendment to the constitution that would disqualify lawmakers from serving once they hit 75 or 80 years old.
“We have age minimums, which frankly are ridiculous, right? And the only way there’d be an age maximum is you’d have to make it a constitutional amendment, there’s no doubt in any legal scholar’s mind,” host Chuck Todd said to the panel. “Do you think there’d be momentum for that? You put it at 80, you apply it to the federal judiciary? Something tells me there could be bipartisan momentum for that.”

Christopher Nolan has proven to be a great visionary in his field over the last few decades. His dedication to bringing big ideas to the screen while telling a personal story has been unrivaled as a director by his peers. When a Nolan film is released, it becomes an event for film fans. Some of his movies fare better than others, but they all have become ‘must see’ when they hit the big screen. With Oppenheimer hitting theaters, let’s look at some of Christopher Nolan’s best scenes.
Batman Begins (2005) – Bats
Nolan’s first venture in the world of superheroes. While he intended to make Batman as much of a real-world hero as he could, there had to be some tweaking of what would actually be possible from time to time. When Batman tries to rescue Rachel from the clutches of Scarecrow, he finds that he...

Very few filmmakers have the distinction of creating a classic on their first effort. But John Huston, one of the greatest screenwriters and directors of the 20th century, did just that in 1941 with “The Maltese Falcon” and went on to create many classics by inventing, reinventing and reinvigorating genres.
Huston was born on August 5, 1906, in Nevada, Missouri. His father was the great actor Walter Huston, and young John developed an interest in the stage at a young age watching his father perform in vaudeville. He was a sickly child with an enlarged heart and kidney ailments but eventually overcame that to drop out of school at the age of 14 to become a professional boxer.
As a young adult, Huston wrote and sold several short stories, and made his way to Hollywood when “talking pictures” created a demand for writers. He took a short hiatus from Hollywood after the car he...

Bill Cunningham, the original voice of Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken, and a singer once backed by Fred Astaire who 60 years ago launched the company now known as the Cesd Talent Agency, has died. He was 96.
Cunningham died July 15 at his home in West Hollywood, the agency announced.
The founder was “among the great innovators and gentlemen of the talent representation business,” Cesd partners Ken Slevin and Paul Doherty said in a statement. “Bill set the template for client and customer service, particularly in commercial, voice-over and print. He was a warm, gregarious, classy man who made a positive impact on all those he represented and employed. It was our honor to know him and to learn from him.”
With the encouragement of friend and singer Peggy Taylor, Cunningham in 1963 invested his life savings into starting the Pacific Artists Agency, one of the first commercial and voice-over agencies in Los Angeles.

We can all agree upon the fact that among all the seasons of Prime Video’s Jack Ryan, the current one has the most intricate plot, with layers and layers of storylines stacking on top of each other. And it is fascinating how the show actually managed to pull things off and run everything through the same blender to get the juice out of it. With all the core main characters returning, including Abbie Cornish’s Doctor Cathy Mueller, who was last seen in the first season, a lot of new characters were also introduced in this season in order to move around the plot. While Michael Pea’s flamboyant CIA operative Domingo Chavez and Louis Ozawa’s cool-as-a-cucumber Triad boss Chao Fah were the standouts, one other character also managed to leave a mark: Walter, aka William Tuttle.

Here is a wish for the future: Amazon Studios will take the character of Jack Ryan to the big screen and do a few big-budget actioners with no holds barred. John Krasinski has to play the titular role, of course. And the movies need to be more like the earlier Jack Ryan seasons than the later ones in order to be more fun. However, considering Krasinski is a lot more than Jack Ryan, which includes his directorial ambitions, it does not seem very likely, which is really a shame considering how good the actor has been for the role. We are going to come back to this, but for now, let us look into the endgame of Jack Ryan.
Five years after the very on-point, straightforward, action-driven maiden season, Jack Ryan came up with its most twisted, plot-driven story that involves a lot of relevant issues in world politics. The...

Tough situations call for tough measures, even if those measures mean aligning oneself with their mortal enemy.
Mai Ling and Young Jun were arrested but ended up in different places on Warrior Season 3 Episode 5, causing them to reevaluate their business model and associates.
One thing that everyone can be sure of when arrested is that you will be taken to jail.

That's not to say that Mai Ling was fairing better in jail because it also had challenges. For someone used to the luxuries being a tong leader provided, being hosed down like a slaughterhouse's floor was demeaning.

Shortly after learning she had received her second Emmy nomination for her work on Abbott Elementary, Sheryl Lee Ralph says, “I feel like I’ve been hit with a bag of emotions, and most of them are so wonderful.”
Ralph won best supporting actress in a comedy last year for playing Barbara, the eponymous school’s veteran teacher, and she could repeat again — but not before she fulfills another duty. Ralph is currently part of the committee negotiating SAG-AFTRA’s new contract as the possibility of an actors strike looms. The deadline for talks is 11:59 p.m. Pt.
“We’re fighting for our art,” Ralph tells THR of the SAG negotiations. “We’re fighting for what we love, and what we know people love. We’re not big million-dollar companies. No, we’re people, and we want to enjoy what we do, and we want to make a living at it.

Lance Reddick’s unexpected death in March 2023 halted a thriving acting career that consisted of many memorable performances, including several voice-over gigs on TV series like “Castlevania,” “Duck Tales” and “Rick and Morty.” In addition to half a dozen mid-production projects, his legacy could include a posthumous Emmy victory in honor of his vocal work on the Amazon Prime Video animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina.” After Chadwick Boseman, who won the 2022 Best Character Voice-Over prize for “What If…?” two years after his death, Reddick would be the second posthumous recipient of any voice acting Emmy.
Reddick joined the recurring cast of “The Legend of Vox Machina” in its second season, which concluded less than a month before he died. His character, Thordak, is the leader of a group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave, whose destructive plans are encumbered by the heroic, interspecific members of Vox Machina.

Cherry Jones could score three Emmy nominations this year for her supporting turn on the Apple TV+ limited series “Five Days at Memorial” and her guest appearances on “Poker Face” and “Succession.” It’s those double guest bids, though, that would put her in rarefied air as the three-time Emmy winner would become the 11th person to earn drama and comedy guest acting nominations in the same year.
Since the guest categories as we know them were standardized in 1989, 10 people have pulled off this feat. Jack Gilford was the first, getting shortlisted that very year for “The Golden Girls” and “thirtysomething.” In 1991, Colleen Dewhurst won comedy guest actress for “Murphy Brown” and was nominated in drama for “Road to Avonlea.” Gwen Verdon snagged noms in 1993 for her guest spots on “Dream On” and “Homicide: Life on the Street,” while Marlee Matlin followed in 1994 with bids for “Seinfeld” and “Picket Fences.
