“I would love to do it. Honestly, listen… it’s so funny, like, I have a musical theater background. I’ve sung that song in a weird, random cabaret before,” Zane said. “Yeah, I love that movie.”
There’s a video of Zane singing “Go the Distance” that is floating around social media. Watch him perform below!

As speculation continues over who will be the next James Bond, Andrew Scott, who played the villainous C in Sam Mendes’ “Spectre,” is weighing on his “All of Us Strangers” co-star Paul Mescal stepping into the shoes of 007.
“He’d probably be a great James Bond,” Scott told me Saturday night at Los Angeles special screening of “All of Us Strangers” at Vidiots in Eagle Rock.
But then he added with a sly smile, “I want to see him in ‘Gladiator’ first.”
Mescal, who couldn’t attend the Saturday screening because he is currently filming the “Gladiator” sequel in Malta, has been a fan favorite to lead the James Bond franchise after the departure of Daniel Craig.
Scott says Mescal has sent him photos from the “Gladiator” set. “It’s gonna be incredible,” Scott said. “It’s so exciting. I’ve seen some images that are going to delight the world over.

When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes got underway earlier this year, many Netflix shows were left with fates up in the air.
Now that the strikes are over and Hollywood is getting back to normal, the series won't be making the cut for additional seasons are being revealed.
Deadline revealed Wednesday that Shadow & Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall will not be returning.
Shadow & Bone is the highest profile of the five shows, having made it to a second season.
Despite the freshman season garnering considerable buzz, Shadow & Bone Season 2 launched earlier this year to little fanfare.
Based on the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone Season 2 follows Alina Starkov, who is now on the run.
The series stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik...

It’s been quite a week for filmmaker Andrew Ahn.
On Wednesday, his Hulu film Fire Island earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie, and on Thursday night at the opening of Outfest he received the Lgbtqia+ festival’s Outfest Achievement Award, recognizing a body of work that includes Fire Island, Driveways (2019), and Spa Night (2016).
The festival called Ahn “a beloved member of the Outfest family” and “a champion of promoting diversity in the arts by mentoring youth filmmakers through programs like our OutSet program, among many others.”
“It’s cool,” Ahn told Deadline of the Outfest honor. “It feels a little early in my career. I legit tried to turn it down when [Outfest director of programming] Mike Dougherty emailed me about it, but they were very supportive and effusive that this was my time. I’m so thankful because Outfest was a big part of my coming of age as a filmmaker.

Every generation gets the aspirational workplace it deserves. In 2006, “The Devil Wears Prada” helped establish the archetype of an imperious, intimidating woman who rules her chic urban office with an iron fist; with its obvious Anna Wintour analog, the book-turned-film also doubled as a bookend to the era of the print magazine editor’s omnipotence. Eight years later, Sophia Amoruso coined the term “Girlboss,” a cutesy moniker that soon got a Netflix adaptation to match. Latter-day examples have updated the template to keep pace with the times: “Younger” took place in the wake of the Great Recession, when securing a dream job requires some deceit, while “The Bold Type” was proudly progressive — think 2010s Cosmo, not mid-aughts Vogue. In these stories, actual employment is less secure, but the employer acts less like a dictator than a stern, if nurturing, mentor.

Glamorous is a Netflix series produced by CBS and created by Jordon Nardino. Starring Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) and featuring breakthrough actor Miss Benny in a hilarious role, the series draws inspiration from The Devil Wears Prada, but with a more benevolent character. Although the show meets expectations, they are not particularly high.
The plot follows Marco, an aspiring influencer who lands a dream job with a makeup mogul. He embarks on a dazzling journey of self-discovery amidst the chaos of his work and romantic challenges.
While the show is an entertaining, glamorous comedy, it is more intriguing for its concept than its execution. As the series progresses, the comedy overshadows the plot, leaving it somewhat superficial. The acting is more convincing than the characters themselves, and the actors’ performances are more impactful than their dialogue. The series is too focused on being “glamorous” and not enough on delivering a compelling story.

‘Glamorous’ Trailer: Kim Cattrall Gets Her ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Moment in Netflix Queer Comedy Series
Netflix’s upcoming series “Glamorous” is like “The Devil Wears Prada” if Meryl Streep were replaced by “Sex and the City’s” Kim Cattrall and instead of Anne Hathaway, she hired drag queens and non-binary actor Miss Benny to work for her. The 10-episode LGBTQ comedy series premieres June 22 on the streamer.
“Glamorous” follows baby-faced new hire Marco Mejia (Miss Benny), a young, queer man who lands a job for the legendary CEO Madolyn Addison (Cattrall). Madolyn’s makeup line, Glamorous Cosmetics, is plummeting. Suspecting her business is being sabotaged by someone on the inside, she hires Marco to sleuth around.
“She wants him to be her eyes and ears, to make friends — and find out what’s going on behind her back, to discover what they’re hiding and what they’re stealing. In exchange, she’ll teach Marco everything she knows – but she warns him, ‘This business isn’t all glitter and glamour,...

So many red carpets. So many celebs. When my editors asked me to name my top 10 red carpet interviews of 2022, it wasn’t an easy task because there were so many memorable — and often times, viral — moments.
I could have easily included Joel Kim Booster talking about his sex scene with Zane Phillips that was cut from “Fire Island.” Or how about how Ariana DeBose telling me at the Oscars how she called then-Disney chief Bob Chapek about the studio’s disappointing response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill? I will never forget Jonathan Groff singing “The Music That Makes Me Dance” from “Funny Girl” at D23 or Omar Apollo revealing he had a childhood crush on “Wizards of Waverly Place” star David Henrie. Anitta not only sang some Britney Spears at the MTV VMAs, but she also gave me some Mariah Carey at the American Music Awards.

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
After the success of “Uncut Gems,” filmmaker brothers Josh and Benny Safdie and their star Adam Sandler have a lot to live up to with their next collaboration. The trio announced in October they were reuniting for an untitled film for Netflix.
While details about the project are under wraps, Sandler did tell me Monday at the Gotham Awards that he’s going to have a much “different look” than he’s ever had. “I can’t say that I’m gonna look that handsome in it,” Sandler said. “It’s not a handsome moment…It’s gonna be tough.”
As for the storyline, Sandler would only say, “They’re working hard. Every time I talk to them they say they are working hand.”
Sandler starred in “Uncut Gems” as a Howard Ratner, a shady New York City jeweler with a gambling addiction.

But for many, the official kickoff to the season will always be the Gotham Awards. One of the biggest early showcases for the year’s top independent films, the Gotham Awards are set to take place tonight at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. While only films with a budget under 35 million are eligible, the event is a key battleground for smaller films hoping to separate themselves from the field in their quest for Oscar gold.

The first look of David E. Kelley’s investigative drama series “The Calling” were released Monday by Peacock, offering a glimpse into the show ahead of its Nov. 10 debut on the streamer.
Adapted from a series of novels by author Dror Mishani, the show’s plot follows a New York Police Department detective named Avraham Avraham (Jeff Wilbush), who typically relies on spirituality to guide his pursuit of truth until one investigation makes him rethink his beliefs.
The series stars Wilbush, Juliana Canfield, Karen Robinson and Michael Mosley.
One image highlights a particularly tense, yet slightly absurd moment where Wilbush is locked hands with a man wearing a hotdog suit in what looks like the context of an interrogation.
Behind the production is showrunner, writer and executive producer Kelley, whose lengthy career includes series such as “Picket Fences,” “The Practice,” “Ally McBeal” and “Big Little Lies.” Barry Levinson will also...

It’s Marco’s first chance to figure out what he wants out of life, who he actually is, and what it really means for him to be queer.
Terriquez will recur as Dizmal, a Bushwick fixture and drag performer who welcomes Marco (Benny) to the world of Brooklyn nightlife; while Horn will portray Nowhere, Glamorous by Madolyn’s (Cattrall) marketing assistant.

Doing press for “Fire Island” has been quite an emotional experience for James Scully, who plays Bowen Yang’s love interest in director Andrew Ahn’s new queer rom-com written by and starring Joel Kim Booster.

Matt Rogers got to live the dream in the summer of 2021. That's when he and two of his very best friends - Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang - brought to life the script for "Fire Island," written by Booster and inspired by their real-life adventures. "I live under a lucky star," he tells Popsugar. "Seriously."
"When you're doing a movie that is about friendship and that is about chosen family, to be there with your literal sisters does a lot of the work," he explains. " I think we're good performers, but I also think we're great friends."
For "Fire Island," Booster mapped the plot of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" on a group of gay friends spending a week on Fire Island. The area is a historic gay vacation getaway on Long Island, partially because, for decades, it gave LGBTQ+ people a place to socialize outside of the eyes of straight society.

In the Andrew Ahn-directed and Joel Kim Booster-written take on Pride & Prejudice, Zane Phillips plays Dex, the modern gay spin on one of Jane Austen’s more duplicitous bachelors: George Wickham. The actor behind the attractive, sex-positive island visitor is first introduced to Booster’s Noah, a gay and expectedly bitey version of Elizabeth Bennett, while the duo are both shopping at the island pantry.

It’s a gross oversimplification of Jane Austen’s gift to suggest that her novels reduce to heteronormative matchmaking exercises, though all six end with their heroines getting hitched. (Austen herself never wed. Make of that what you will.) Gay movies have their formulas, too, few of which end in marriage. Exasperatingly, the vast majority center on one of three plots: the coming-out story, the in-love-with-my-straight-buddy dead-end romance and the coping-with-aids downer. So right off the bat, there’s something fresh about “Fire Island,” a saucy queer ensemble comedy from comedian-cum-screenwriter Joel Kim Booster about looking for Mr. Right in the spot where gay men flee to find no-strings fun, sun and sex.
Taking a page from “Clueless,” Booster had the bright idea to update a key Austen classic, putting the gay Asian pride in “Pride and Prejudice” — where nothing of the sort ever existed before — with the help of “Spa Night” director Andrew Ahn.

“Fire Island” writer and star Joel Kim Booster is reflecting on his Jane Austen–inspired queer romantic comedy’s legacy even ahead of its release amid Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law.
“Fire Island” stars Booster, Bowen Yang, Zane Phillips, James Scully, Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos, Torian Miller, and Margaret Cho in the vacation rom-com, out on Hulu June 3. Yet after first being acquired as a TV series by Quibi, “Fire Island” was greenlit by Disney-owned Searchlight Pictures, which will premiere the film on Disney-backed streamer Hulu. That partnership is now being called into question following Disney’s financial support of Florida’s homophobic bill that banned discussions of sexual orientation or gender identity in Florida primary schools.

"You think that if you're vulnerable for just one second it's all going to come crashing down. Searchlight Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a modern romantic comedy called Fire Island, another of their direct-to-Hulu offerings that hasn't played at any fests. I am a big fan of Searchlight but it's a bit sad to see them give up on theaters entirely and send everything to Hulu (don't skip on Fresh either). In this, a pair of best friends set out to have a legendary week-long summer vacation with the help of cheap rosé and a group of eclectic friends. Described as "an unapologetic, modern day rom-com," the film's title refers to the real "Fire Island" - a famous gay escape destination off the southern shore of Long Island. Starring Joel Kim Booster (who also wrote the script), Bowen Yang, Conrad Ricamora, Zane Phillips, James Scully, and Margaret Cho.

Joel Kim Booster’s Searchlight film stars Bowen Yang, Zane Phillips, James Scully, Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos, Torian Miller, and Margaret Cho in the queer rom-com about a group of friends who embark on a week-long vacation filled with hook-ups, debauchery, and friendship make-or-break moments. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Peppermint makes a cameo. ‘Fire Island’ First Look: Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang Star in a Jane Austen-Inspired Gay Rom-Com
New York’s Fire Island is about to get even steamier.
Hulu shared a first look at the upcoming Fox Searchlight film “Fire Island,” starring Bowen Yang, Zane Phillips, James Scully, Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos, Torian Miller, and Margaret Cho. The gay-centric rom-com centers on a group of friends who embark on a week-long vacation filled with hook-ups, debauchery, and friendship make-or-break moments; screenwriter Joel Kim Booster also stars, while Andrew Ahn (“Spa Night”) directs. “Fire Island” premieres on Hulu on June 3.
And, it turns out one streamer going down flames led “Fire Island” to get the greenlight from Hulu. Filmmaker Booster revealed that the film was originally supposed to premiere in 2020 on short-lived streaming platform Quibi, which specialized in episodic “quick bites” of entertainment.
“My Comedy Central pilot had been passed on — I was so depressed — and my agent was like, ‘You should write a show that’s based off this essay,...
