Us President Barack Obama has issued North Korea with new sanctions in response to the hacking of Sony Pictures.
A White House statement released today (January 2) said that measures will be made by the Treasury in retaliation to the "ongoing provocative, destabilising, and repressive actions and policies, particularly its destructive and coercive cyber-attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment".
The sanctions add to already existing ones and prevent the access of 10 people and three government officials identified as key operatives in the hacking to the Us financial sector.
The hackings started at the end of November and led to the temporary suspension of the release of The Interview and the leaking of private emails detailing what executives thought of movie stars and ongoing projects.
