Most of us can agree that TV shows thrive on their romantic storylines, but over the years love triangles have increasingly taken over TV’s romantic storylines and divided fans.
Iconic love triangles have become a commonly used trope to hook viewers in. There is nothing like declaring who the heroine should be with and having to stick with them through the rollercoaster of intense declarations of love and breakups. But despite how annoying and cliché love triangles can be, they lead to some of the best TV moments. So, naturally we decided to take a look at TV’s most infuriating love triangles.

Lola Tung has no fear when it comes to straying from how The Summer I Turned Pretty books ended on the Amazon Prime Video series of the same name. In fact, the actor who plays Isabel “Belly” Conklin prefers it when scenes aren’t identical to the novels. Ahead, why Tung likes the TV show to be different, how Tsitp Season 2 ended, and what’s in store for season 3’s ending based on author Jenny Han’s book trilogy.

“Summer’s end is around the bend just flyin’” according to the great John E. Prine and Patrick James McLaughlin, whose song “Summer’s End” appeared in Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” covered by Phoebe Bridgers and Maria Taylor. This applies to reality as the seasons and months change, but also to Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which just wrapped its second season on Prime Video. Don’t blink though, because even though Season 3 is delayed due to the ongoing strikes, it will likely be the last one.

Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney) has almost no filter after he catches Belly (Lola Tung) making out with his brother Jeremiah in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 finale.
Conrad knows that Belly has always pined for him, but Season 2 shows that they gave a relationship a shot until it got to be too much for him along with his mother Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) cancer. Belly tried to tell him about her feelings for Jeremiah the night before his biology final, but he had finally fallen asleep from the near-all-nighter they pulled helping him study. Cruising off the feeling that he aced his final and that his mother’s beach house was safe, Conrad walks back to the car to interrupt the heavy make out sesh, initiated by Belly.
He doesn’t let them hear the end of it as they drive Belly home. Briney spoke a bit about filming...

Laurel Park (Jackie Chung) doesn’t fully break down over Susannah’s death until Episode 7 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
While Belly (Lola Tung), Steven (Sean Kaufman), Taylor (Rain Spencer), Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney), Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno), Skye (Elsie Fisher) and Cam Cameron (David Iacono) threw a party to rebel against the sale of the Cousins Beach house by Aunt Julia (Kyra Sedgwick), Laurel remained unaware of Julia’s plans and the kids’ efforts to thwart them. It was a drunken call from Belly that tipped Laurel off as to what her children were really up to while she was away promoting her new memoir, “It’s Not Summer Without You.” The book was about meeting Susannah and living life as best friends from college.

Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) and the summer boys are back in Season 2 of Jenny Han’s television adaptation of her beloved young adult “The Summer I Turned Pretty” books. Based on the second book in the trilogy, “It’s Not Summer Without You,” Season 2 drops July 14 with three episodes launching on Amazon Prime Video. Belly’s love triangle with Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno) is far from resolved, as indicated last season when Belly expressed strong feelings for Conrad, but then kissed Jeremiah before ultimately ending up with Conrad again.
The official trailer for Season 2 debuted Taylor Swift’s “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” after a short snippet of the singer’s “folklore” song “August” to showcase how the second installment will jump back and forth between the latest summer and the winter before it that Belly spent dating Conrad long distance.

When it came time to film a key musical scene in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2, star Chris Briney found relief in knowing that his character Conrad Fisher didn’t have to be a good singer, but the actor isn’t sure he ever wants to watch the scene himself.
In the third episode of Season 2, Belly (Lola Tung) flashes back to Susannah Fisher’s (Rachel Blanchard) funeral, specifically to the part where Conrad plays a song on the guitar that his mother always asked him to play.
“Figuring out what that moment was — Conrad’s not a singer. I didn’t want him to have this angelic voice,” he told TheWrap in an interview conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “I haven’t seen it so I actually don’t know what it sounds or looks like and I really don’t think I ever want to.

It’s not summer without “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
Prime Video’s hit teen drama has returned for Season 2. The first three episodes, which dropped on July 13, re-introduced its rabid fanbase to the world of 16-year-old Belly Conklin (Lola Tung), who spends summers with her family and friends at an idyllic house in Cousins Beach. Caught in a love triangle between two brothers, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney), Belly navigates romance and friendship — and, in Season 2, grief, for the first time.

The television show of the summer for teens sprang from the pages of Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” trilogy. Season 2 of the Prime Video series, which debuted July 14, takes on the events of the second book, “It’s Not Summer Without You.” As with Season 1, several changes were made to the adaptation for the small screen, such as the addition of new characters and the expansion of certain storylines. Other details, large and small, make the show a bit different from Han’s second book, but with the author also serving as showrunner on the series, these changes come naturally.
Season 1 had its own changes that ripple into Season 2, such as Jeremiah’s bisexuality, Laurel’s career as an author (she is a professor in the books) and more. Kyra Sedgewick and Elsie Fisher joined Season 2 as completely new characters that don’t exist in the books.

Rising actor Christopher Briney has recently become a fan favorite after starring as Conrad Fisher in Amazon Prime Video's TV adaptation of Jenny Han's book "The Summer I Turned Pretty." The actor first emerged onto the acting scene while he was a student at Pace University, where he earned a Bfa in film, TV, voice, and commercial acting.
While Briney was working toward his degree and pursuing an acting career in college, he met Isabel Machado, who is also a rising actor. According to a June 23, 2022, Instagram post captioned, "A whole year!? [This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2, Episodes 1-3.] The Summer I Turned Pretty is back and already breaking hearts with the up-and-down love story between Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) and Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney), whose time together unfolds in two different timelines. The first timeline picks up during the summer of Season 1, just as Belly and Conrad’s relationship is beginning, and the second timeline kicks off at the start of the following summer, at which point Conrad isn’t even speaking to Belly, nor is his brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). With the reveal that Conrad and Jeremiah’s mother Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) has also died from cancer, this new summer doesn’t have the same kind of promise the previous one did. The structure is reminiscent of Jenny Han‘s books on which this series is based. As the creator and showrunner ...

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Star Sean Kaufman Explains Why Season 2 Feels ‘Crazy Different’ (Video)
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 delves into some summertime sadness, and the actors found it tough to stay in the season’s dramatic headspace for too long.
“Whatever acting method people choose to use —replacement or method — it’s tough because it’s like I’m surrounded by funny people in a loving environment, and all I want to do — especially in moments of like extreme vulnerability like that — is to crack a joke to ease the tension or not let myself go there because it’s too painful,” Sean Kaufman, who plays Steven on the show, told TheWrap in an interview conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “To actually allow yourself to go there, especially day after day after day, like a lot of Season 2, it’s tough.”

Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” television adaptation made a splash last summer with all kinds of young adult romance and drama. Lola Tung brought main character Isabel “Belly” Conklin to life as she returned to Cousins Beach, where she has spent every summer of her childhood with her mother’s best friend Susannah Fisher (Rachel Blanchard) and her sons Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Belly’s glow-up did not go unnoticed by both Fisher brothers, but she opted to strike up a romance with Cam Cameron (David Iacono) instead before things got a bit messy. A volleyball tournament and debutante ball drove last season’s plot, as did certain relationships.

Taylor Swift has dropped “Back to December (Taylor’s Version) in the Season 2 trailer for “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
“Last summer felt like a dream,” Lola Tung’s voice says over shots of Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Tung) and Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney) on the beach followed by her talking with Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). “It was unlike any other summer.”
Season 1 of the Prime Video series, adapted from Jenny Han’s best-selling book trilogy, watched Belly visit Cousins Beach once more, but she has glowed up quite a bit in the time she spent away. Both Fisher brothers noticed, and a love triangle between the three of them ensued. Things got even more complicated when the boys discovered their mother Susannah’s cancer had relapsed. After a chaotic and dramatic debutante ball, she promised her sons that she would do a trial for treatment.

Exclusive: CAA has signed The Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung for representation in all areas.
Tung will make her television debut in the lead role of Belly in Jenny Han’s anticipated Amazon YA drama series The Summer I Turned Pretty, based on The New York Times bestselling trilogy of the same name.
The multigenerational drama hinges on a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship.
Tung’s Belly used to be gawky and awkward, but this summer she turns 16. She’s starting to turn heads, and it’s taking some getting used to. Conrad Fisher, the boy she’s loved forever, the boy who never even looked in her direction, is paying attention to her. It’s exhilarating to her to suddenly be an object of desire, but it’s also scary.
