Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is enacting a revenge plot against the eight House Republicans who ousted him.
In October 2023, McCarthy was booted from his position as House speaker when a group of Republicans joined all Democrats in voting to vacate the chair.
McCarthy is out for revenge against the group that he has dubbed the “Crazy Eight” or “Gaetz Eight” and its leader, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), who introduced the motion to have the speaker vacated.
The former House speaker left Congress two months later. This ended up shrinking his party’s majority in the chamber.
McCarthy’s ally, Brian Walsh, is working to round up primary challengers to the “Gaetz Eight.”
The ousted speaker is prepared to mobilize his still-sizable donor network to arrange primary challenges. He is focusing on three representatives specifically. His allies believe that Reps. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), Bob Good (R-Virginia) and Eli Crane...

Kevin McCarthy has been ousted as Speaker of the House of Representatives. The vote comes as part of a campaign from Rep. Matt Gaetz and a posse of like-minded Republicans who have long opposed McCarthy, who is the first speaker to be axed as a result of a motion to vacate from his own party.
The House voted 216-210 to remove McCarthy on Tuesday afternoon. Eight Republicans joined Democrats in vote in favor of the motion: Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Ken Buck (R-Colo.), Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), Eli Crane (R-Ariz.

Rep. Eli Crane (R-Arizona), referred to black Americans as “colored people” on the House floor on Thursday. This quickly brought about criticism from Democrats and a reprimand from the presiding officer and former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Crane, 43, was promoting a proposed change to the National Defense Authorization Act (Ndaa). He stated his amendment would stop “wokeness” in the Defense Department by preventing it from considering race, gender, political affiliation, religion or “any other ideological concepts” as the only premise for recruitment, education or promotion decisions.
The lawmaker explained, “My amendment has nothing to do with whether or not colored people or black people or anybody can serve. It has nothing to do with any of that stuff.”
Crane: My amendment has nothing to do with whether or not colored people or black people or anybody can serve.
Beatty: I would like those words stricken from the record pic.

Arizona Republicans are hosting a two-day, QAnon-inflected, anti-vaccine circus at the statehouse — focused on supposed “atrocities” committed by public health officials in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The hearings, which began this morning, are organized by a new state Senate body, the Novel Coronavirus South Western Intergovernmental Committee. The committee’s chosen acronym — Ncswic, which has been plastered on posters promoting the hearings — offers unusual cross-branding. It shares the abbreviation of an infamous QAnon catchphrase, “Nothing Can Stop What Is Coming.”

Kevin McCarthy really, really, really wants to be speaker of the House of Representatives. It’s not coming. The 118th Congress began on Tuesday, and though Republicans won control of the chamber last November, a not-insignificant portion of the party remains steadfastly opposed to giving McCarthy the gavel. McCarthy has lost three consecutive speakership ballots, with 19 Republicans opposing him on the first two, and 20 on the third.
Rep. Byron Donalds joined the 19 other defectors to vote against McCarthy on the third ballot, which means McCarthy is drifting even further away from securing the majority necessary.
