It looks like Alan Palomo has shed his Neon Indian moniker for the foreseeable future: The electro-pop musician has announced World of Hassle, his debut album under his real name. Ahead of the LP’s September 15th release via Mom+Pop, Palomo has shared its latest single “Stay-at-Home DJ.” He’ll celebrate with a North American tour throughout Fall 2023.
World of Hassle first manifested as the next Neon Indian record following 2015’s Vega Intl. Night School, but naturally, things changed once the height of the pandemic hit; that album concept and the Neon Indian moniker both began to feel a bit restricting, so Palomo dropped them both.
But longtime fans can still expect a pretty familiar sound from World of Hassle. It combines elements of vaporwave, rock, and cumbia, which backdrop his biting, politically-charged lyrics. Like your favorite black comedy, Palomo wraps his dead-serious topics with a playful exterior. Pre-orders for physical copies are ongoing.

During an April town hall in Iowa, 2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley declared her intent to “outlaw all foreign lobbying whatsoever.”
“Ban all foreign lobbying,” she wrote on Twitter shortly after.
But behind the scenes, Haley had given herself a hall pass when it comes to accepting campaign donations from abroad. According to a Wednesday report from ABC News, the former United Nations ambassador has accepted tens of thousands of dollars in contributions from foreign lobbyists.
The donations include $6,600 from Oswaldo Palomo, a registered foreign agent representing governments and agencies around the globe.

Alan Palomo of Neon Indian and Mac DeMarco have teamed up for a new coastal, chill bop, “Nudista Mundial ’89,” marking Palomo’s first release since 2019.
Palomo has kept a relatively low profile in recent years, but “Nudista Mundial ’89” — his debut single under his own name — is seemingly the start of a new era. Though it may mark the end of the Neon Indian moniker as far as the music is concerned, Palomo is at the top of his game, and he seems to be having fun, especially with DeMarco.
“While working on a few tunes, I was trying to get a hold of this certain piano,” Palomo said in a statement. “My keyboard player told me Mac had one at his studio so I hit him up. And on one breezy day in May, we sang a duet about two guys going to a nude beach together in Ibiza.”

What might we think of the overworked denizens of Wall Street if their uniform of choice were bedazzled and bulbous suits that doubled as tutus? “Play Time,” a new piece from choreographer Gianna Reisen, which premiered last night at the New York City Ballet’s 10th annual Fall Fashion Gala, imagines the hustle and bustle of the city’s white-collar workers, minus the hustle. Not that the dancers moved without urgency. Set to a score commissioned from Solange, the piece ponders what would happen if the tenacity we reserve for...
