Let's be honest; Lifetime has once again risen to the occasion with a jolly holiday film that you'll want to watch over and over again.
And, of course, Under the Christmas Tree just so happens to be their first lesbian-centric Christmas movie, too.
With dynamic leads, charismatic supporting characters, and a romance that made you squeal in delight, Under the Christmas Tree was a damn near perfect film destined to become a classic for the network.
It's certainly on my personal list of favorites that I'll look forward to in the upcoming years.
Lifetime pledged to make the yuletide gay, in addition to all the other diverse movies they've been producing, and it's so refreshing to have various forms of representation that reflect the network's broad audience.
Not only did they deliver a sweet sapphic romance, but they did it effortlessly, the groundbreaking nature of it so understated in the best of ways.

Cannes — The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented the winners of the 6th International Emmy Kids Awards in Cannes on Tuesday night, at a ceremony at the Carlton Hotel.
With over 1,000 buyers of youth-oriented programming assembled in Cannes for MipTV, Academy President and CEO Bruce L. Paisner celebrated what he described as an “exciting and thriving industry” that’s “pushing boundaries [and] inventing new forms.”
Twenty-eight nominees from 16 countries gathered for the presentation of awards highlighting the dynamism of kids programming around the world.
In the category of Kids: Factual, the winner was “Berlin und wir!” (Berlin and Us!), by Germany’s Imago TV and pubcaster Zdf, about German and refugee kids learning about each other’s cultures in Berlin.
Topping the Kids: Preschool category was France’s “La Cabane à Histoires” (The Treehouse Stories), by Dandelooo and Caribara Production, about four friends who meet in a secret treehouse to share their favorite books.

The Carmilla Movie, a feature spawned from the vampire web series of the same name funded by female hygiene brand U by Kotex, will debut in Cineplex theaters across Canada on October 26, with a wide release on Fullscreen the following day.
Elise Bauman, who plays Laura Hollis in the web series and upcoming film, and Natasha Negovanlis, who plays Carmilla Karnstein (the vampire), debuted the film’s full-length trailer today at their New York Comic Con panel. Bauman and Negovanlis portray lesbian partners in Carmilla, one of whom happens to be a 300-year-old vampire. Other cast members include Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Murdoch Mysteries) and Nicole Stamp (The Handmaid’s Tale).
Produced by the Toronto-based production shop Shaftesbury, The Carmilla Movie will find the web series star couple in a Toronto apartment, Carmilla no longer a vampire. When she starts to once again exhibit vampiric tendencies, she and Laura meet with old friends to fix the problem.

Carmilla is so hot right now. The cult favorite web series about vampires and romance has landed a book deal from Kcp Loft, an imprint of publisher Kids Can Press.
The book, due out in the spring of 2019, will be the latest off-YouTube venture for Carmilla, which has a devoted audience of fans (who refer to themselves as “Creampuffs”). Beyond the literary world, Carmilla’s stars will reprise their roles in a movie that recently began filming.
Details about the book’s plot are sparse, but it will likely continue to story of Laura (Elise Bauman) and Carmilla (Natasha Negovanlis), who form a devoted partnership even though Carmilla is a vampire. The original Carmilla web series, which was sponsored by feminine hygiene brand U By Kotex, was itself based on a 19th century novella of the same name by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu.

A cult hit web series is well on its way to spawning its own feature film. Production has begun on the movie adaptation of Carmilla, the only web series (as far as I know) centered around a lesbian vampire, based off a 19th century novel, and sponsored by a feminine hygiene brand.
Carmilla stars Elise Bauman and Natasha Negovanlis as Laura and Carmilla, the latter of whom has vampiric origins. Ats of the film’s beginning, Laura and Carmilla have settled together in Toronto, but supernatural twists begin to affect both of them, and they must call upon old friends to help them take on a mysterious antagonist.
The Carmilla series first launched in 2014, with U By Kotex coming on as its sponsor. More than 100 episodes have since been produced, with the show’s fans delivering more than 69 million total views.
After it was initially announced last October, the Carmilla movie is now in production.

Two actresses who star together in a well-received web series are bringing their chemistry to a feature film, and if the buzz generated by its trailer is any indication, it will score a sizable audience of its own. Elise Bauman and Natasha Negovanlis, who portray the two lead characters in the web series Carmilla, will be at the forefront of Almost Adults, an upcoming film produced by the Gay Women Channel.
In Almost Adults, Negovanlis and Bauman will portray a pair of best friends who find themselves struggling to keep their relationship together as their lives diverge from each other. The film was initially funded by a March 2015 Kickstarter campaign that ultimately raised $122,056 Cad ($91,999.70 Usd). Production began in May, and at the recent Buffer Festival in Toronto, a trailer arrived.
