Royal Blood Responds After Flipping Off ‘Pathetic’ Festival Crowd: ‘I Felt I Was Being Entertaining’
Royal Blood was a last-minute addition to BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend music festival, and the rock duo made quite the impression on the crowd.
Royal Blood — consisting of Mike Kerr on vocals and bass, and Ben Thatcher on drums — were added as an 11th-hour replacement for the festival, which was dominated by such pop acts as Lewis Capaldi and Niall Horan.
Given that Royal Blood’s hard-driving rock is as far from pop as it gets, Kerr offered a cheeky intro when they took to the stage.
“I guess I should actually introduce ourselves seeing as no one actually knows who we are. We’re called Royal Blood and this is rock music,” Kerr told the crowd, receiving a tepid response.

British rock band Royal Blood couldn’t stomach their lukewarm reception at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
The duo’s frontman, Mike Kerr, let the audience know that their unenthusiastic reaction to their performance was setting him off.

Kerr stopped during his performance to air out his growing tensions towards the crowd’s lack of excitement.

Royal Blood had what amounted to an on-stage meltdown during their performance at BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend in Dundee, Scotland on Sunday.
The duo apparently became perturbed after receiving a less than enthusiastic reaction from the crowd, leading Mike Kerr frontman to ask, “Who likes rock music?” After receiving some cheers, he responded, “Nine people. Brilliant.”
Later in the set, Kerr commented, “We’re having to clap ourselves because that was so pathetic.” He then turned directly to the the camera and seemingly mocked the crowd: “Will you clap for us? Will you clap? You’re busy. Can you clap? Yes, even he’s clapping. What does that say about you?”
Once Royal Blood’s seven-song set came to a close, Kerr stuck a pair of middle fingers into the air as he walked off of the stage. Below, you can find a video compilation of Kerr’s on-stage antics.

Royal Blood have a new album on the way. Back to the Water Below arrives September 8th via Warner Records, while lead single “Mountains at Midnight” is available to stream below.
Back to the Water Below marks Royal Blood’s fourth studio album, but in some ways, this go-around is the first time bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher really believed in their power as a band. “No-one saw the years of us playing in loads of bands to no-one, that all gets swept under the carpet because the other story is magical and much more wondrous,” Kerr explained in a statement. “Luck is where passion meets opportunity. We got our golden ticket and walked out as tiny ninjas. We were in the right place at the right time, and we have to remember to give ourselves the credit that we didn’t get into this position by winning a quiz show,...

Bob Dylan has revealed that he enjoys listening to Eminem and the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan.
In a new interview, the singer opened up about his favourite artists and explained that he usually discovers new music “mostly by accident”.
Dylan, 81, told The Wall Street Journal that he “is a fan of” Eminem and Wu-Tang Clan and praised them both for their “feeling for words and language”.
He also said that he likes listening to “anybody whose vision parallels mine”.
This is not the first time Dylan has discussed Eminem. In 2001, he admitted to Time that he didn’t know that much about the rapper, but said: “I almost feel like if anything is controversial, the guy’s gotta be doing something right.”
In the same interview, 21 years ago, Dylan claimed that he hated most modern music and said that the radio makes “hideous sounds”.

If anyone has earned the right to be an irascible octogenarian — especially when it comes to music — it’s probably Bob Dylan. In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, the singer-songwriter got the chance to do some back-in-my-day sermonizing — sharing both astute points, and some rather curmudgeonly ones — about the state of contemporary music and the streaming era.
In the interview, Dylan noted that these days he likes to listen to music on CD and satellite radio, while he still maintains a penchant for old tube record players...

Royal Blood have announced their new album Typhoons, with the British rock duo also sharing the title track from their upcoming LP, due out April 30th.
Like their 2020 single “Trouble’s Coming” — Typhoons’ opening track — the duo’s new track “Typhoons” finds Royal Blood reconnecting with the electronic music acts that inspired their 2014 debut album, namely Daft Punk, Cassius and Justice.
“We sort of stumbled on this sound, and it was immediately fun to play,” Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr said in a statement.
“That’s what sparked the creativity on the new album,...

British duo Royal Blood inject a bit of dancefloor energy into their hard rock sound on their new song, “Trouble’s Coming.”
The song is still centered around Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher’s headbang-worthy bass and drum attack, but the flourish on the hi-hat hits and the song’s sinewy lead synth line give the song a distinctly dance-y edge.
The song is indicative of the direction Royal Blood are headed on their as-yet-untitled third album, which is set to arrive next spring. It incorporates influences like Daft Punk,...

Josh Homme skates gracefully through a surreal fever dream in the new video for Desert Sessions’ “Easier Said Than Done.”
Directed by Chapman Baehler, the clip wastes no time in grabbing your attention as a Hitler look-alike enjoys a picnic with a demon of some sort. Their good time, however, is promptly interrupted when Homme — strapped in a straight jacket and on roller skates — appears and urinates on the fascist dictator.
Things get even weirder from there as Homme glides gracefully between bizarre tableaus of authoritarian teachers, masturbating pig-faced billionaires,...

British hard rock duo Royal Blood unleashed a ferocious performance of "Lights Out" on The Late Late Show With James Corden. The track appears on the band's new album, How Did We Get So Dark?
Bassist-singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher built a bruising wall of sound out of just their two instruments and some cleverly triggered background vocals. Thatcher's thunderous drums served as a sturdy foundation for Kerr, who showcased his rock hero credentials on "Lights Out" with his crystalline wail, an array of monster bass riffs and a otherworldly,...
