10. Jack Shephard from Lost
Sometimes, in an attempt to give a character some personality flaws, writers outdo themselves and turn an initially likable character into an obnoxious one. Lost’s Jack Shephard is a prime example: while he’s supposed to be a hero, what he really is is a frustratingly entitled manchild who just can’t quit whining for the life of him.
9. Rita Bennett from Dexter
For many people, overly dramatic characters have always been a bane of any show they were in, and we totally get it. Dexter is great, but Rita Bennett’s whiny drama queen attitude was a real killjoy for many fans, and some even claim they were glad when Rita was “finally” killed off and they could keep enjoying the show without her.

Wednesday’s episode of The Masked Singer (Fox, 8/7c) marks the Group C Finals, giving the three remaining contestants — Clock, Lizard and Poodle Moth — one last chance to impress the audience and proceed to the next round. And for one of those contestants, being part of a “Big Three” is very familiar territory.
We’re talking about the one and only Poodle Moth, whom we believe to be actress Chrissy Metz, who recently wrapped a six-season run as Kate Pearson on NBC’s This Is Us.

Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick), Katie Lowes (Scandal), and George Ferrier (One of Us Is Lying) have been cast as series regulars in Starz’s upcoming drama series The Hunting Wives, alongside previously announced Malin Åkerman, Brittany Snow, Dermot Mulroney, and Evan Jonigkeit. Production is underway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Written by Rebecca Cutter based on May Cobb’s novel of the same name, The Hunting Wives tells the story of Sophie O’Neil (Snow) and her family’s move from the East Coast to deep East Texas, where she succumbs to socialite Margo Bank’s (Åkerman) irresistible charms – and finds her life consumed by obsession, seduction and murder.
Metz plays Starr. Abby’s mother, a proud working-class woman and staunch Christian. Although she’s active at church and her daughter dates the star point guard Brad, she is not welcomed in the high-society world of the Hunting Wives.

The Pearsons may be gone, but they’re certainly not forgotten. A whopping 19 “This Is Us” cast members have been submitted by NBC on the 2022 Emmys ballot, including all of the core adult family members. That number includes three lead performers: Sterling K. Brown as Randall Pearson, Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson and Mandy Moore as Rebecca Pearson. In years past, Justin Hartley as Kevin Pearson has also dabbled in lead, but for this final season he’s competing in supporting. One fan-fave guest star was not submitted on the Emmy ballot and thus cannot be nominated: 2017 winner Gerald McRaney, who returned in the penultimate episode as the ghost of lemonade-loving Dr. K.

“I’m already getting teary thinking about it,” admits Chrissy Metz as she ponders how “This is Us” has changed her life. “I was basically broke. I just wanted to act and I wanted to tell stories. I was desperate. I had a handful of auditions in 12 years that I lived in L.A. When my friend even asked about auditioning for this show I was like, ‘If you can get me the audition, of course I’ll go.’ Having a woman that looks like me on a network television show was groundbreaking. Now we see women of varying sizes, and men, who are just getting to tell their story and it has nothing to do with their weight.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Hollywood has produced another “unrecognizable” transformation via fat suit. In a recent Vanity Fair interview accompanied by promotional photos, Renée Zellweger spoke about the makeup and prosthetics used to transform the Oscar-winning actress into her Pam Hupp, the average American mom who became a murderer in the upcoming NBC limited series “The Thing About Pam.”
Being an average American woman means that Hupp is not the size of an average Hollywood actor. But instead of casting a performer that might accurately embody the role, we have Zellweger in a fat suit and calling it character building.
The industry seems to be doubling down on pretending fat women don’t exist. Or rather, that fat women only exist within the confines of artifice. “No one is actually fat,” these depictions tell us. “These are actors wearing a scary costume. No fatties were harmed in the filming of this project.”

“‘This is Us’ is a handbook for living,” explains Chris Sullivan when describing the shocking Season 5 finale of NBC’s Emmy-winning drama. “Dan Fogelman has created this kind of handbook for relationships and he’s exploring every aspect of relationships. I think I realized early on, if he’s going to explore every aspect of a relationship, then he’s probably going to explore the dissolution of a relationship. Divorce or a split was going to have to play into it somewhere and we all could have guessed that it wasn’t going to be Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson).”

Through the years, “This Is Us” has welcomed countless big-name guest stars to its ever-growing family, with a whopping six being nominated at the Emmys: Ron Cephas Jones, Gerald McRaney, Brian Tyree Henry, Denis O’Hare, Michael Angarano and Phylicia Rashad. Jones and McRaney are the only two guest stars to take home trophies, but now Angarano is hoping to follow in their Emmy-winning footsteps.
Angarano first joined NBC’s family drama in 2018 as Nick Pearson, the estranged brother of Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia). In flashbacks we see Nick’s early life with Jack and their service in Vietnam, while in the present-day story he’s known as Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) and lives a mostly solitary life in his trailer. In the most recent fifth season, Angarano returned in the “One Small Step” episode in which fans saw Nick fall in love for the first time with his co-worker Sally at the animal clinic.

Over the past few seasons on This Is Us, Kate Pearson has been on a journey of self-discovery, and now we're finally seeing her own her truth in a significant way. During the midseason premiere on Jan. 5, Kate confronts her past as she tracks down her abusive ex-boyfriend Marc to give him a piece of her mind. Not only is it a powerful scene from Chrissy Metz, but it's incredibly relatable for women everywhere who've needed to let go of a toxic experience.
"You're the disease, and I'm not carrying it a moment longer. So I give it back to you."
As Kate recounts the rippling effect their relationship had on her life over the years, including swallowing her dreams, feelings, and "a lot of food," she lets him know she is officially done letting it define her. "I'm not broken, you're the one that's broken," she tells Marc. "You're the disease,...

One of the best things about 2021 so far is that This Is Us is back.
It's been a long two months since the fall finale, which aired before Thanksgiving.
But This Is Us Season 5 Episode 5 was well worth the wait. The Pearson family saga's latest installment had everything the time-hopping series does best and stopped at just the right place, making me eager for more.
Switching back and forth between timelines is a This Is Us' trademark. It was particularly effective this time, considering that each of the Big Three were trying to decide what to do with their pasts and the best way to move forward into their futures.
Kate's story was super compelling. As much as I'd hoped that we'd seen the last of Marc after Rebecca threw him out, I knew it would never be that easy.
And while I'm not sure that confronting her abuser was the best idea,...

Though it’s spent the past few years teasing viewers with flash-forward peeks into the future, This Is Us‘ upcoming Season 5 seems like it will be very focused on looking back.
In April, series star Chrissy Metz said that the NBC drama would spend some time in the new season showing viewers how Kate Pearson started to use food as a coping mechanism “because she’s been through some things that we haven’t, we don’t know yet.” And now, Metz’s on-screen brother is hinting that he’s quite excited about an upcoming storyline for Randall.

Name a show on TV right now that has a more Emmy-nominated cast than NBC’s “This Is Us.” I’ll wait.
Over the last three seasons, the family drama has garnered a staggering 18 Emmy nominations for its actors, including three wins, for Sterling K. Brown (Best Drama Actor) and Gerald McRaney (Best Drama Guest Actor) in 2017 and Ron Cephas Jones (Best Drama Guest Actor) in 2018.
Last year an impressive seven out of nine nominations for the show were for its sprawling cast. Leading men Brown and Milo Ventimiglia each netted their third consecutive nominations for Best Drama Actor. Emmy debutantes Mandy Moore and Chris Sullivan received mentions for Best Drama Actress and Best Drama Supporting Actor, respectively.

“I feel really honored,” reveals Chrissy Metz about tackling motherhood in her role as Kate Pearson on “This Is Us.” “To take on something that we haven’t seen is pretty challenging.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Metz above.
In “This Is Us,” Metz plays one of three siblings in the close-knit Pearson family on NBC’s hit tearjerker. We’ve noted before how This Is Us‘ Kate is the Pearson sibling most in need of a win — and that held true in Tuesday’s episode, which found present-day Kate worrying that her marriage was going to end and flashback Kate experiencing emotional abuse at the hands of her first boyfriend.
“I always joke that I have super-healthy tear ducts at this point,” says Hannah Zeile, chuckling. Zeile plays Kate as a young adult, which means she’s the one charged with playing Kevin and Randall’s sister as she makes her way through the grief following Jack’s unforeseen death.

Kate Pearson took center stage on This Is Us Season 4 Episode 13, which aired Tuesday on NBC.
The installment marked the conclusion of the "Hell of a Week" trilogy, which started on January 21.
Naturally, viewers thought there would be some resolution for some of the big plots that were addressed during the special episodes.
TV shows need to have a payoff to keep viewers interested.
However, the series returned after a week off with an episode that delivered more questions than answers.
Fans took to social media to air their thoughts, and the comments section on a post from the official This Is Us page reveals a lot about the way people feel about the state of the series at this moment in time.
One of the most significant talking points was regarding the the flashback storyline with Kate's boyfriend Marc as viewers were left hanging due to the lack of answers.

Universal Music Group Nashville said Monday that it has signed Chrissy Metz, a star on NBC’s ensemble smash TV series This Is Us. The news comes the same day that the Diane Warren-penned song “I’m Standing With You” sung by Metz in the film Breakthrough earned an Oscar nomination.

Chrissy Metz To Produce, Possibly Star In Inspirational Mountaineer Movie ‘Gorge’ In Works At Amazon
Exclusive: Amazon Studios has acquired rights to Kara Richardson Whitely’s memoir Gorge: My Journey Up Kilimanjaro at 300 Pounds, and is developing it as a movie with This Is Us star Chrissy Metz, who will produce and possibly star.
The producing team also includes PatMa Productions’ Denise Di Novi, Nina Tassler and Margaret French Isaac, along with Luber Roklin Entertainment’s Lena Roklin.
Gorge tells the story of Whitely, a woman determined to reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro who was able to ascend from the depths of self-doubt to the top of the world. She struggled with each step — with the grueling conditions on the steep mountainside, with the 300-pound weight of her own body, and with her food addiction that came from a lifetime of reckoning with feelings of failure and shame. “This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz wants to live a healthy life, but she doesn’t think that means she necessarily has to lose weight to do so.
“Goodness, there’s so many different levels of response,” the plus-size actress told TheWrap founder and editor in chief Sharon Waxman during WrapWomen’s Power Women Summit Thursday, when asked if she felt pressure to lose weight from those within the industry who value thin talent.
“I think, as we evolve as human beings or in our particular life, we realize, ‘Oh, you know, this isn’t serving me anymore,'” she said. “Or, if we, God forbid, come across medical issues or problems that, ‘Oh, maybe I just wanna be a little more active.’ And some people knock the girls that lose weight and say like, ‘Why did you guys do that? You’re selling out.’ And that’s not necessarily true.
