After the huge success of Fool Me Once, Netflix have commissioned two more Harlan Coben adaptations, here are the details.
The Harlan Coben thriller is quickly becoming its own subgenre. So far, ten of his high-octane, twisty novels have made their way to the screen. Amongst the highlights, Tell No One was adapted into a terrific French film of the same name in 2006, directed by Guillaume Canet and starring Francois Cluzet and Kristen Scott Thomas.
On television, The Five, Safe, Innocent, Just One Look, No Second Chance, The Stranger, The Woods, Gone For Good, Stay Close, Hold Me Tight and – most recently – Fool Me Once have all been adapted variously for Channel 5 and Netflix.
It’s thanks to the huge success of Fool Me Once, which landed on Netflix over Christmas and stars Michelle Keegan, that the streaming service are pressing ahead with two more Coben adaptations, Deadline has revealed.

South Asian representation in cinema has come a long way, with increased visibility and recognition in the last few years. However, despite the progress made, it is important to acknowledge that there is still work to be done to ensure more authentic and inclusive portraits of the diverse South Asian community in cinema and provide opportunities for South Asian filmmakers and actors to tell their stories on their own terms. In this regard, director Isher Sahota – of extensive television experience – has teamed up with writer James Hey and producer Jon Tarcy of independent production company Bonaparte Films, to bring to the public “The Effects of Lying”, a British comedy/drama with an all-Asian cast. “The Effects of Lying” is the first feature film for Sahota and Tarcy and has been acquired by the streaming service Itvx.

Director Isher Sahota arrives on Directors Notes’s pages with his new short film Goodnight Henry, a biting satire set in the world of Victorian politics. The story concerns the Prime Minister’s advisor who stumbles upon his boss in scandalous circumstances having met his demise. It then becomes the job of the advisor to maintain a level of decorum whilst managing the national trade deals that had been up for discussion. The joy of watching Sahota’s short is in the tonal balance he achieves, the jokes aren’t hammed up for comedic attention and instead arise out of the seriousness of how his characters react to their farcical situations. Dn is excited to premiere Goodnight Henry online in conjunction with a discussion with Sahota where he talks about period locations, casting and the challenge of achieving that unique tone through a combination of camera movement, rhythmical editing, and precise performances.

Michael Radford, best known for BAFTA and Oscar-winning film “Il Postino,” has Spanish-language Spain-India project “The Princess of Kapurthala,” which he will co-direct with Manuel Estudillo (“Caso Urquijo”). Juan Antonio Casado and Davide Cottarelli of Pok Production are producing.
Gautam Arora’s Hindi and English-language film “The Last Lane” (India) is being produced by Kite Rabbit Films, the production company of Shaunak Sen, whose “All That Breathes” won best documentary at both Sundance and Cannes this year.
