David Soul, who was best known for playing Detective Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson in the hugely popular Starsky & Hutch TV series, has died aged 80, his wife has said.
In a statement to press, Soul’s wife Helen Snell said he died on Thursday “after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family.
“He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend,” said Snell. “His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”
Soul played the role of Hutch in the ABC series throughout its run from 1975 to 1979, opposite Paul Michael Glaser. The American-Brit also had major roles in Here Come the Brides and Magnum Force.
Born in Chicago, Soul started performing as a stage actor in the mid-1960s, first landing a role on The Merv Griffin Show and then Star Trek.

The best way I can describe the past year is as a year of trend shifts in the film zeitgeist. In a film environment where the most popular discussions often revolved around the never-ending slate of superhero blockbusters (and Martin Scorsese’s opinions on them for some reason), 2023 positioned itself as a time of change in the film industry.
Between the struggles faced by once-dominant cape flicks to break even at the box office and the SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes being at the forefront of industry shakeups into awards season, 2023 has been a year of unlikely and/or unusual success stories for off-kilter genre movies.
In 2023 alone, we bore witness to a horror game adaptation outperforming superhero movies from both Marvel and DC, video game movies in general overtaking the conversation surrounding films and of course, the Barbenheimer double feature born from a meme before blossoming into two of the most successful films of the year.

Seeing two towering individuals portrayed by actors with incredible talent is never a chore.
Freud’s Last Session finds Anthony Hopkins as Sigmund Freud welcoming Matthew Goode as C.S. Lewis, who at the time had only just begun his career of Christian leaning works, carrying on a conversation about the existence of God.
It sounds like a discussion for the ages from two brilliant minds who had more than their share to say on the matter.
The film is based on a 2009 play by and adapted for screen by Mark St. Germain.
Reviews for the play with stage actors at the helm were raving about the quality of the performances as well as the taut writing about a subject many are leery of discussing at all -- the presence of God.
Freud and Lewis, by all accounts, never actually met, although Freud did host an unknown scholar from Oxford shortly before his death.

Earlier this month, we reported that Jenelle Evans had been slapped with a gag order by the courts. The former Teen Mom 2 star was advised not to speak about her eldest son, Jace Evans, or the ongoing child abuse case against her husband, David Eason. Evans took that suggestion under advisement, but that doesn’t mean she’s completely staying off social media. She has plenty of other issues to complain about. Recently, Jenelle took to Facebook to grumble about her mom, Barbara Evans. In a Facebook post, she accused Barbara of selling stories about her and suggested her mother was “jealous.” Followers quickly dragged her in the comments.

MGM continues to develop "RoboCop Returns" as a direct sequel to director Paul Verhoeven's original, satirical, ultra-violent "RoboCop" (1987) feature with director Abe Forsythe ("Little Monsters") on board to rewrite a screenplay by Justin Rhodes ("Terminator: Dark Fate"), Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner:
"In the original film, Detroit is on the verge of collapse due to financial mismanagement and a high crime rate. The city signs a deal with the mega-corporation 'Omni Consumer Products' (Ocp) to run Detroit's police department in exchange for letting Ocp rebuild run-down sections of the city into a high-end utopia. Senior Vice President 'Dick Jones' demonstrates a new law enforcement robot, 'Ed-209'.

In the second act of Hell’s Kitchen, Alicia Keys’s autobiographical passion project over a decade in the making, absent father Davis (Brandon Victor Dixon) sits down at a piano and asks his wary teenage daughter, Ali (Maleah Joi Moon), if she remembers the song he wrote for her that they always used to sing together. He starts to play, and the song is “If I Ain’t Got You,” the second single from Keys’s second studio album, The Diary of Alicia Keys.
Ali tentatively joins him, the electricity of Keys’s surging melody and yearning lyrics coursing across the stage and supercharging the father and daughter’s fractured relationship. As staged by Michael Greif, it’s a lovely picture, with Davis at the piano far back and Ali at the edge of the stage looking away from him and toward the audience. Sparks fly, briefly, but despite...

An imagined conversation between two eminent historical figures who may or may not have ever met — nobody seems to know — forms the heart of Freud’s Last Session, an intellectual fable from Sony Pictures Classics that grew out of a play and, before that, a book and an Ivy League seminar.
Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins plays the inventor of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, opposite Matthew Goode as the celebrated author and theologian C.S. Lewis in a cerebral clash of titans. But as co-writer and director Matthew Brown said on Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles panel, the movie version as he envisioned it almost didn’t happen.
“I mean you always dream that you would have an actor like Hopkins say he would do the role,” Brown said. “And we did try once and we didn’t get very far. And then we did some more work on the script and tried again.

Villa Collina, a Mediterranean Revival masterpiece nestled in the hills of Los Feliz in the shadow of Griffith Observatory, has a historic Hollywood pedigree stretching back almost a century. Designed by architect Henry Harwood Hewitt in 1927, the four-bedroom, four-bath estate was built for Olympian Clement E. Smoot, who was part of the 1904 gold medal-winning golfing team. A later resident was Artur Rodzinski, famed Polish conductor of the LA Philharmonic.
But Villa Collina became famous as the home of legendary English director James Whale in the 1930s. Whale reportedly lived at the Villa with his longtime partner David Lewis, despite rampant homophobia in Hollywood. According to Behind the Screen: How Gays and Lesbians Shaped Hollywood, when agent Phil Berg asked Whale if he “had” to live with Lewis, Whale replied: “I don’t have to. I want to.”

The Notebook Primer introduces readers to some of the most important figures, films, genres, and movements in film history.Artists and Models.By rights, Martin and Lewis should have the kind of cultural footprint renders them permanent household names: the status that turns artists into Halloween costumes, as archetypal as cartoon characters and ancient gods. For ten years, from 1946 to 1956, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were a double act, and accurately describing how popular they were sounds like gross exaggeration. They were so big that the only fitting comparisons are to rock stars—and not just any rock stars, but Elvis Presley, or The Beatles. “For ten years after World War II, Dean and I were not only the most successful show-business act in history,” Jerry Lewis wrote with his trademark humility in Dean and Me: A Love Story (1984), “—we were history.” Their live shows were pandemonium. They reportedly made eleven million dollars in 1951 alone.

Staind frontman Aaron Lewis apparently thought it was a good idea to spell out “Trump 24” on an open field using the carcasses of 32 coyotes that he and his friends apparently killed during a hunting excursion in Texas. Now, he’s getting some serious backlash for the stunt.
The singer has made no secret of his right-wing views over the years, leading a “Fuck Joe Biden” chant during a 2021 show, and even going so far as to diss American treasure Bruce Springsteen in the lyrics to his politically charged solo tune “Am I the Only One.”
But this new one might take the cake. Lewis posted the gruesome image on his Instagram while promoting his 2024 solo tour. “Successful morning in Texas. Presale for Afl 2024 dates starts today,” he captioned the disturbing photo.

Some people say all good things must end, and that is the case for Apple and Skydance Animation, who say they’re parting ways. While this is disappointing news, a silver lining remains. Apple is continuing its partnership with Skydance Media, with plans to work together on live-action film and television projects. The parting comes after the union’s multi-year deal ends. As a parting gift (of sorts), Skydance Animation keeps Spellbound, Vicky Jenson’s animated fantasy epic starring Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman, John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jenifer Lewis, and Javier Bardem, to name a few.
Skydance Animation is likely to find a new home quickly, perhaps with a studio more interested in producing animated projects instead of epics like Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Thankfully, Skydance Media remains in a good place with Apple as new and existing projects like Foundation, The Big Door Prize, and...

The placement of a particular cliffhanger at the end of “Lessons in Chemistry’s” second episode was debated intensely by showrunner Lee Eisenberg, director Sarah Adina Smith and the show’s writers.
The second episode in the Apple TV+ series, adapted from the best-selling novel by Bonnie Garmus, ends on a tragic note with the death of the character Calvin Evans, portrayed by Lewis Pullman. The first two episodes premiered Friday.
“We spent the very first few weeks debating this [plot point] ad nauseam. Just over six months after criminal charges were dropped against Alec Baldwin for the 2021 killing of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, new involuntary manslaughter claims could be put before a grand jury in a matter of weeks.
“After extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have come to light that we believe show Mr. Baldwin has criminal culpability in the death of Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza,” said Special Prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis today of the tragedy on the New Mexico set of the Indie Western on October 21 two years ago.

It's not a huge surprise to hear that there are people out there who don't like Larry David. After all, the guy's built a whole persona for himself as a grouchy old man, someone who goes back and forth between annoyance at social conventions and a fierce defender of the ones he agrees with. TV Larry will refuse to give his condolences to a woman who lost her father two years ago because he believed the "sorry window" had already closed, but he will yell at you if you park your car outside the lines. Larry is a complicated man with a strong yet questionable moral code, and that's not everyone's cup of tea.

The opening scene of Netflix's "Yellowjackets" begins with one of the most haunting TV sequences in recent memory. A dark-haired girl in a nightgown runs through a frozen forest, looking scared for her life - and for good reason. As she runs, a pit opens up beneath her feet, and she falls in. The next frames show her limbs nailed to the ground with sticks, and then she's getting hung up by her feet and flayed while a bunch of people clad in animal skins look on. Eventually, after the girl's remains are placed in front of an antler-clad figure, the group devours her.
The specter of that scene haunts all of "Yellowjackets," which tells the story of a girls' soccer team who crash-land in a forest and are forced to survive there for 19 months. Interspersing that story with scenes set 25 years later - when...

This post contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of "Yellowjackets."
"Yellowjackets" is the type of show that's able to elicit a half-dozen different emotions from viewers in the span of just a few minutes. One second, you can be laughing at Jeff (Warren Kole) as he laments that he won't be able to Google himself anymore if he goes on the run, and the next you can be gasping over Kevyn's (Alex Wyndham) death. The show is often scary, funny, and often deeply emotional, but arguably no episode has been more downright heartbreaking than last night's finale.
The hour saw multiple deaths, losses, and changes of fortune for the Yellowjackets, from the aforementioned poisoning of Kevyn to the fire that engulfed the hunting lodge to the crowning of teen Natalie as the new antler queen. Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “Storytelling,” the Season 2 finale of “Yellowjackets,” now streaming on Showtime.
The second season of “Yellowjackets” has come to a dark and twisted end. In the 1996 timeline, teen Lottie (Courtney Eaton) handed over the role of leader of the wilderness to Natalie (Sophie Thatcher), as all the young girls bowed to her, confirming she was, in fact, the Antler Queen. However, the celebration was cut short as a fire sparked in the middle of the night. While everyone escaped, the group was left standing outside in the snow, watching flames encapsulate their home.
In the present timeline, the group once again drew cards to see who the wilderness wanted — an idea suggested by Lottie (Simone Kessell). Before they performed this old ritual, Natalie (Juliette Lewis) warned the rest of the residents to leave, including Lisa (Nicole Maines), to whom she had grown close throughout...

Great casting is one of the things best defined by what it is not. There’s an alchemy to the assembling of a cast — particularly a larger ensemble — that can only be achieved with luck and a sharp eye. And while the 2022-2023 TV season saw plenty of larger-than-life performances and jaw-dropping transformations, these four first-year series managed, in wildly different ways, the same balancing act of star turns and sharply delineated supporting roles. Here are four series worthy of Emmy Award consideration for their feats of casting.
“Andor”Lucasfilm Ltd. “Andor” (Disney+)
Tony Gilroy’s gritty sci-fi/spy thriller is the adult, character-driven “Star Wars” many of us have been waiting for. But Cassian’s origin story would not have been as brilliant without the talented ensemble cast built around Diego Luna by casting directors Nina Gold and Martin Ware: Stellen Skarsgård as the eccentric antiques dealer organizing...

Jenny Lewis knows her weaknesses: “I fall in love too easy, too easy,” she sings on her new single, “Cherry Baby,” “with anyone who touches me, fucks with me.” But she also knows what she wants on the easy-vibing soft-rock song, which will appear on her new LP, Joy’All (out June 9): “Cherry baby, will you be mine? … Turn me into gold, alchemy.”
Lewis previously released the album’s pedal-steel–ornamented “Puppy and a Truck,” in 2021, when Rolling Stone heralded it as the introduction of her “yacht-rock era.” A few months back,...

"The Starling Girl" actor Lewis Pullman grew up with a front row seat to what a steadfast and commendable career in front of the camera looks like. The actor is the son of beloved "Independence Day" and "While You Were Sleeping" actor Bill Pullman. "My dad has just a plethora of good advice, but one that he's adamant about is subverting expectations," Lewis tells Popsugar when asked about the best acting advice he's received throughout his career. Lewis takes that wisdom to heart with his latest role in "The Starling Girl."
In the film, Lewis plays Owen, a morally grey, 20-something youth pastor who feels more suffocated and misunderstood than ever upon returning home to his fundamentalist Christian community after an eye-opening trip to Puerto Rico. "He is so excited by all these new approaches to his faith and how he can further his transcendence into his belief in God,...

After scoring her second Emmy nomination this morning for her supporting role on Showtime’s Yellowjackets, Christina Ricci caught up with Deadline to discuss the show’s recognition and upcoming second season, at the same time teasing her reentry into the world of Tim Burton with Wednesday.
Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams in two past Addams Family films, said it was “wonderful” to reteam with director Tim Burton on his upcoming Netflix series, for the first time since their collaboration on 1999’s Sleepy Hollow. “I was beyond flattered, particularly because it is Tim Burton and I respect and admire Tim so much,” she said. “So, to have him ask me to come back and play this part in that world was really gratifying on a sentimental level.”
While Ricci is sworn to secrecy on the role she’ll be playing in the series, she said she also “really loved” working with Jenna Ortega,...

In 1997, Jeff Friday, founder and CEO of Jeff Friday Media, was working as the film division president of UniWorld Group, a prominent multicultural advertising agency headquartered in New York and founded by legendary ad world maven Byron E. Lewis. In January of that year, in search of new clientele within the entertainment industry, Friday headed to the Sundance Film Festival. It was the first film festival he had ever attended. It was also the year writer-director Theodore Witcher’s award-winning “Love Jones” screened at the fest, ushering in an era of what Friday calls “the glory days of Black cinema.” That film, and the experience of seeing it at Sundance, altered the trajectory of Friday’s career.
“This was right around the time of such films as ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back,’ ‘Love and Basketball,’ and Spike Lee,” Friday recalls. “‘Sex, Lies and Videotape’ had just happened and there...
