Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has acquired Burn Night, a package from Safehouse Pictures’ Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell and writer Chris Sparling.
The project’s blurb: Seven years of the annual incident known as “Burn Night” have hardened the Lockhart family, but nothing’s prepared them for tonight. Wings blot out the stars, fire rains from the sky, and something monstrous circles above. Trapped in their lakeside community, they hold fast to one another during their desperate fight to survive until sunrise.
The feature project falls under Safehouse Pictures’ first-look film deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Austin Bowman serves as director of development for the production company and brought the project in Amazon MGM.

Amazon Studios has closed a three-year first look film deal with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell’s Safehouse Pictures.
Founded by Harold and Tunnell in 2005, Safehouse Pictures is producing the sci-fi thriller Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez, Sterling K. Brown and Simu Liu, for Netflix, and is currently in production on Apple’s live-action Godzilla and Titans Monsterverse series, starring Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell. The company’s past credits include Spinning Out, Underground, My Blind Brother and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
Harold most recently wrote and exec produced Obi-Wan Kenobi for Disney+ and co-wrote Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and The Flash, both of which are slated for release next year. He also recently wrote the script for Disney’s live-action adaptation of Space Mountain, which Safehouse will produce with Rideback. His previous credits include John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Edge of Tomorrow.

NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (Nfmla) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have teamed once again for the annual Nfmla Film Festival InFocus: Latinx & Hispanic Cinema Festival — but this time it’s virtual. The fest is set for September 25-26 which aligns with Hispanic Heritage Month which kicks off September 15 and continues through October 15.
With Seed&Spark as the platform, this year’s program includes two shorts programs and a presentation of Varda Bar-Kar’s documentary Fandango at the Wall which is executive produced by Quincy Jones and Carlos Santana. The docu was recently acquired by HBO.
The fest will also feature emerging filmmakers from the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Spain, Chile, and the Dominican Republic including the world premieres of Alberto Belli’s After Life Vacation, Kate Romero’s Chronology, and Alyssa Toledo’s Lift Off.
