Alexander Zverev teamed up with veteran Laura Siegemund and delivered a stunning performance to clinch the 2024 United Cup final for Germany.
Some people might consider doubles boring, but if they ever tell you that, send them the highlights of this match. It was a spectacular match that had everything. There was drama, there were spectacular moments, and some great tennis.
Both teams did their best because it was a crucial match. The winner takes all, and Germany took it all. They're in the final and will play against Poland, which should be a spectacular final.
If we get anything like this tie, then we should be happy. It began with Angelique Kerber beating Ajla Tomljanovic earlier today, which was a minor surprise. Then we saw Alex de Minaur turning around the match against Alexander Zverev, and that was quite a surprise because Zverev was the most valuable player for his country so far.

The 2024 Adelaide International, is the last Wta 500 tournament before the first major of the season, and it will run from January 8th to 13th, as we already know the draw.
Before the first Grand Slam of the season - the Australian Open, women are treated to two Wta 500 tournaments, which give them a chance to accumulate a total of 1000 points, which is almost as much as the runner-up finish is worth in Melbourne.
The runner-up finish is something that Elena Rybakina achieved at the Australian Open in 2023, and that's also maybe one of the reasons, why she's one of the few players that elected to take part in both of these Wta 500 tournaments, to make up for points that she may loss in the Melbourne Park.
She reached the final in Brisbane, and in Adelaide, she will play as the top seed. The first two seeds have a first-round bye,...

Fresh from a career-best win over World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, home favorite Alex de Minaur was grilled by a journalist with a question about a marriage proposal.
On Wednesday, De Minaur became the first Australian to beat a reigning World No. 1 on home turf since 1996. Despite a lackluster effort against Djokovic at last year's Australian Open, the man nicknamed "Demon" gave the home fans something to cheer about this time at the United Cup.
A composed performance by de Minaur in Perth, aided by the Serb's injury woes, gave Australia a foothold in the tie, which Ajla Tomljanovic eventually sealed. The host nation will play Saturday's semifinal against Germany in Syndey.
While much of post-match talk was about de Minaur earning the finest win of his career, one curious journalist asked the Aussie whether he was contemplating proposing to his girlfriend Katie Boulter - the top-ranked British woman in the...

Angelique Kerber overcame a spirited challenge from Ajla Tomljanovic to record her first win as a mother at the 2024 United Cup.
Going into the first match of the semifinal tie between Australia and Germany, both players obviously had the same goal - to win the match. However, the story behind that, was much different for both players.
While the Australian player wanted to regain her confidence by challenging the former Wta's world no. 1, and delight the home crowd, Kerber's goal was to win her first match back as a mother, as she lost all of her previous matches at the United Cup.
On the other hand, Tomljanovic already managed to win one match, and it was the most crucial match so far, as she sent her country into the semifinals of the team competition.

The new tennis season is barely a week old, and Novak Djokovic has seen another of his glorious streaks come to a juddering halt.
Djokovic and Serbia debuted at the mixed-gender team event - the United Cup, for the first time - but were eliminated in the quarterfinal by a vibrant Australian team cheered every step of the way by a raucous home crowd in Perth.
First, the tireless Alex de Minaur pierced through a worn-out Djokovic, perturbed by a wrist injury, before Ajla Tomljanovic landed the telling blow to send the host nation into Saturday's semifinal against Germany in Sydney.
Defeat in singles competition finally put a stain on the Serb's remarkable run on Australian soil spanning five years and running through a jaw-dropping 43 matches. In that time, Djokovic won five titles Down Under, four of which came at the year's first major in Melbourne.

The Pole is the tournament's top seed and a former champion (2020) when the event was staged at an International level. China's Lin Zhu became the inaugural champion when the tournament was a freshly minted 250-level event last season.

Alex de Minaur downed Novak Djokovic earlier today, giving Ajla Tomljanovic a great chance to seal Australia's place in the United Cup semi-final.
The Serbia - Australia United Cup tie was one that Australia could have won, but nobody really expected it to come this easily. Djokovic's wrist injury played a huge factor in the first match as de Minaur was able to overcome the Serbian to make this second match a must-win for the European country.
Unfortunately for Serbia, Natalija Stevanovic was not up for the task, as Ajla Tomljanovic literally destroyed her. The scoreline was 6-1 6-1 for the native Australian, and that's probably too close of a scoreline considering how one-sided this match was.
Olga Danilovic generally got the nod for Serbia in previous matches, but this time around, the choice was Stevanovic, and it was the wrong one. She never showed up in the match, as...

January last year not only brought us a lot of tennis in Australia but also brought us the first season of Break Point, the Netflix tennis docu-series, which will air its second season in the coming weeks.
It was certainly an interesting watch for those who don't follow tennis as much, but as many pointed out, the first season of Break Point didn't show much of what die-hard tennis fans didn't know.
Sure, we saw how it looked from the inside, but it wasn't that revelatory. Despite all that, the series proved a success which is why it will be returning for a second season.
The first glimpse of the new season was posted by Netflix on social media, and it received some interesting responses. Fans were excited to see some newcomers such as Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, who are the future of tennis.

Katie Boulter stepped up in a big way to down Ajla Tomljanovic at the United Cup, sealing her nation's win over the host nation.
For the second year in a row, Australia is playing host to the United Cup, but this time around, things didn't really start well for them. Playing in Perh, Alex de Minaur was the first on the court, but he was beaten by Cameron Norrie in a nail-biting 3-set finish.
After that we had the Wta match between Boulter and TOmljanovic and the Brit kept it cool. Tomljanovic hasn't played much lately due to her injuries and it kind of showed Boulter had a breakout 2023 campaign and this is a brilliant start for her.
The opening set was a no contest, really, because, after 4 games, the Brit was up 4-0. Tomljanovic did win a few games, but she never really looked that dangerous for her opponent,...

Ajla Tomljanovic is optimistic about returning to her best in 2024 following a difficult 2023 campaign, largely written off due to injury.
At the 2023 Australian Open in January, Tomljanovic was forced to withdraw after she sustained a knee injury. The Australian player did not return until the US Open in September when she had to withdraw again because of an injury during her second-round clash with Elena Rybakina.
Looking back on her 2023 season, Tomljanovic revealed that there were many difficult spells where she felt a sense of injustice about her long-term injury. However, the 30-year-old said in an interview with Aap that she has focussed on recovery and has moved on since the setback.
"I'd be lying if this year there haven't been random moments where I was with my team and I'm like, 'this is just so unlucky what happened because I was at my best and I got so unlucky.

Most established tennis stars have always sought to harness their reputations not solely with their rackets but through humanitarian efforts.
These players have used their platforms and financial resources to aid the underprivileged to access quality education, improved healthcare, and a better life. In hindsight, they always look for avenues to give back to society because of their vast riches.
One way that happens is through establishing not-for-profit foundations and leveraging their star power to organize exhibition events. The most iconic and proficient doubles team in tennis history, comprised of the two twin brothers, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, managed such a cause.

Former Atp World No. 4 Adriano Panatta has slammed those linking Matteo Berrettini's current injury crisis to his relationship with girlfriend Melissa Satta.
Berretini has found love again after splitting for good with his ex-girlfriend and Wta star Ajla Tomljanovic in February 2022. But he has been dealing with outside noise more than taking comfort in his new relationship with the American-born Italian showgirl Melissa Satta.
Satta is a television presenter and a model and was previously married to former AC Milan footballer Kevin-Prince Boateng. According to reports, she has been dating Berrettini since January 2023, but their low-key love affair has not been short of detractors.
Berrettini, who has endured a turbulent season on the Atp Tour, has been criticized by several tennis fans for his poor performances, which are attributed to his involvement with Satta. He has played just 26 matches this season and has seen his ranking tumble to as low as 92nd.

The 2024 Australian Open is shaping up to be a 'comeback' Grand Slam as multiple players will enter it with the Special Ranking.
Special Ranking gives players who missed a lot of time, allowing them to enter events they generally wouldn't be able to. The entry lists are formulated by the rankings; however, these players don't have the required rankings which is why they need this special ranking.
It has limited use for a certain number of tournaments, so players can't use it all the time. Rather, they use it for a select few events, which most players spend on the majors. The hope is to earn enough points to improve the ranking so they can enter future events without any problems.

Ajla Tomljanovic has been a pro for a very long time, but it's only now, at 30, that she won the biggest trophy of her career at the Wta 125 tournament in Florianopolis, Brazil.

Rick Macci recently commented on the career of her former protégé Serena Williams and opined that she would have won 30 Grand Slams had it not been for certain limiting factors.
Macci, a seven-time Uspta (United States Professional Tennis Association) national coach of the year, was an invited guest on Match Point Canada podcast and talked about a number of hot topics in tennis.
The 68-year-old celebrated American coach is a Master Professional of Uspta, which is among the largest organizations bestowed with the mandate to certify aspiring tennis coaches. During the episode, Macci felt that a lot of people underestimated Serena's talent.
He coached Serena and Venus during their tender years in 1991 until they turned professional in 1995. Macci asserts that Serena Williams "checked every box" when it came to mastering the court. And if it were not for injuries and her restricted schedule, then she could have won a lot more.

British tennis star Emma Raducanu was left out of Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup team to face Sweden in the Play-Offs in November.
Team captain Anne Keothavong named a four-woman squad to battle Sweden at the Copper Box Arena in London from November 11th to 12th. The biggest headline was the absence of 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu who hasn't played since April due to injuries.
Raducanu underwent multiple surgeries in May without giving any timetable for her return to competition. Recently, she has been stepping up her fitness in training and has been spotted practicing on tennis courts in a bid to herself ready for the upcoming season.
Great Britain were knocked out from the qualifying round by France in April this year, and must now defeat Sweden in a Play-Off tie to return to the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers next year.

Elena Rybakina will play Sorana Cirstea in the 3rd round of the US Open after not having to play the second-round match against Ajla Tomljanovic.
Rybakina found herself in the 3rd round at Flushing Meadows thanks to a withdrawal by Ajla Tomljanovic , who reinjured herself at the event. The Kazakhstani player looked good in her first match here but will face a tough challenge in Sorana Cirstea, who can hit the ball as well as anybody.
The Romanian has been solid, beating two solid players to get to this stage. Her luck hasn't been the best against Rybakina as she struggled to hit through Rybakina, but this is a new chance to do so, so let's see how it might go.
Head-to-head:
We saw this matchup twice so far on the Wta Tour and on two different surfaces. The first one in Doha in 2020 was won by Rybakina, who lost...

Serena Williams ' emotional retirement at the 2022 US Open closed the curtain on a once-in-a-generation career.
Throughout her playing days, which lasted over 20 years, Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, and she is regarded as one of the best-ever tennis players of all time. Yet, like all of the sporting greats, the time eventually comes to make way, and this moment arose for Serena at Flushing Meadows last season when she lost against Ajla Tomljanovic in the US Open third round.
Bidding farewell to a home crowd in New York was a fitting send-off for the tennis icon. But after all the intense ups and downs of a star-studded career, Williams' retirement has brought about new challenges and opportunities from motherhood to sports investments.

Good friends Matteo Berrettini and Felix Auger-Aliassime will face each other in the 2023 Cincinnati Masters round one.
Matteo Berrettini and Felix Auger-Aliassime are very good friends, having spent plenty of time outside of the courts together. It's unclear how close they are right now because their connection was through their girlfriends. Berretitni's former girlfriend, Ajla Tomljanovic, and Auger-Aliassime's current girlfriend, Nina Ghaibi, are actually cousins.
They all used to spend a lot of time together as both Auger-Aliassime and Matteo Berrettini call Monaco home. Okay back to tennis. So they are quite familiar with each other on the court as well; mostly because they played several times but also because they practiced together.
Head-to-head:
They played five times so far on the Atp Tour, and Berrettini reigns supreme in this matchup. The Canadian won only one match and it actually happened in Cincinnati in 2021. It was a rather simple straight-sets win,...

The 2023 Poland Open in Warsaw will once again bring a lot of excitement to the Polish capital, especially because of one name on the entry list .
Running from July 24th to 30th, the Wta 250 tournament in Warsaw seems to be slowly but surely establishing its place in the calendar. The reason for that is quite simple, currently the biggest star on the Wta Tour, Iga Swiatek , comes from Poland.
Last year the Polish superstar competed at the event in Warsaw, but she lost to Caroline Garcia , who later became the champion of the event. While the defending champion won't appear at the event in 2023, the Polish No. 1 leads the entry list.
For Swiatek, playing at home is extraordinary , and that's why she makes sure to visit the tournament every time she can. She will probably make the Polish fans even happier if she managed to win the title.

A year after it burst onto the scene and all but demanded viewers’ attention, FX’s critically acclaimed series “The Bear” is back for seconds. And it’s just in time to remind Emmy voters how delectable the first season was.
Created by Christopher Storer, the show stars former “Shameless” Mvp Jeremy Allen White as Carmy Berzatto, an award-winning chef who returns to Chicago to take over his late brother’s (Jon Bernthal) failing sandwich shop and, in the process, confront his past. White has already taken home the Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for his performance, which puts him in great position to snag an Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Actor next month even without the timely debut of Season 2. Still, the new episodes certainly don’t hurt.

Donna Vekic had a really tough time some two years ago but this year has been really good for the Croatian player.
Vekic was once a really strong player but then she started to battle injuries and for a while, it was looking like a losing battle. The Croatian dealt with a knee injury and those injuries are really tough to overcome and at one point she thought about quitting.
The lowest point of her career probably happened at the 2021 Indian Wells. In her own words, Vekic explained that the 1st round loss almost caused her to abandon tennis altogether. She wasn't playing well, her knee was hurting and everything seemed hopeless.
I think it was two years ago in Indian Wells, when Indian Wells was played in October. I lost in the first round. I had been struggling a lot. I still had pain my knee. I saw Ajla...

Netflix’s Break Point is a superb documentary series created by Paul Martin and James Gay-Rees, which takes us into the world of professional tennis through its most promising aspirants.
The second part of this documentary series arrives in June, applying formulas seen in other sports documentaries like “Drive to Survive” and successfully bringing it to the world of tennis.
The first part was a huge success, and we expect no less from this second installment, which features a few privileged tennis players such as Nick Kyrgios, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Matteo Berrettini, putting the world of tennis in the palm of our hands.
This documentary aims to take us beyond a television broadcast and make us truly part of the frenetic world of professional sports through aspirants who aim to dethrone the three great legends who have reigned in the last decade.

The second part of the first season of Netflix's Break Point will air in June as we'll get a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes.
This time, it will be about last year's Wimbledon including Nick Kyrgios 's run to the final and the US Open . Break Point has an interesting storyline earlier in the year with the Netflix Curse as players that appeared in the show were losing early at Grand Slams. The second part of the show will premier in June right before Wimbledon so perhaps we see the apparent curse in the works again.
The TV show was an interesting way to present a side of tennis that most tennis fans don't really know. It had a positive impact on the players who took part in terms of social media following so the participants should probably brace for another influx of followers. Despite some unfavourable reviews also from...
