This article contains spoilers for the first two seasons of The White Lotus.
There may not be a detective on the guest list at The White Lotus, but the dark dramedy could certainly use one.
After all, both seasons of the HBO anthology series start with glimpses of dead bodies and spend subsequent episodes tracking the story of how those individuals ended up in such an … unfortunate state. Hulu‘s Death and Other Details is a bit more up front with its detective work and murder plot, but the series’ witty humor and vibrant scenery gives definite The White Lotus vibes and makes a great stand-in while fans wait for The White Lotus season 3 to drop in 2025. After all, what’s more entertaining than watching wealthy, love-to-hate characters suffer a bit of misfortune on their opulent vacations?
Both series present an ongoing storyline related to a murder. In season 1 of The White Lotus,...

In a film stuffed to the gills with quotable dialogue, Inigo Montoya's (Mandy Patinkin) rehearsed speech to the dastardly, six-fingered Count Rugen (Christopher Guest) in "The Princess Bride" -- "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." -- might be the most quotable line of them all. For Patinkin, however, it's not his favorite. Speaking to CBS Mornings in 2013, the actor admitted he's much fonder of a more "potent" line that Inigo says shortly after killing Rugen in combat: "I have been in the revenge business so long, now that it's over, I do not know what to do with the rest of my life."

Updated, 3:25 Pm: Striking writers marching Wednesday in New York City were joined by SAG-AFTRA members Bob Odenkirk and Mandy Patinkin — and the latter’s sign harkened back to a certain beloved 1987 movie.
Both Emmy winners walked the picket line side by side outside streaming giant Amazon’s field office in Manhattan. Patinkin carried a hand-lettered picket sign reading, “You killed residuals. Prepare to pay,” a riff on a celebrated line he uttered in The Princess Bride as the swashbuckling big-screen fairy tale character Inigo Montoya (“You killed my father. Prepare to die.”) And note the Rous in the background of the photo above.
Both Emmy-winning actors spoke to Deadline Hollywood about their reasons for joining the picket line. Watch a clip here and another fiery Patinkin speech below it:

Mandy Patinkin was trending on Twitter for a viral video (below) of the Homeland actor on the writers strike picket line, yelling his support for writers.
The Emmy winner was outside Warner Bros. Discovery’s offices in New York and carrying a sign inspired by his beloved Princess Bride character, Inigo Montoya, that read: “You Killed Residuals Prepare to Pay.”
“Don’t be stupid!” Patinkin yells at an unseen person (presumably a studio executive, given the context). “Make sure you take care of people! You guys make millions and million of dollars! For gods sakes! Without the writers, we have nothing! They create the stories that make our hearts beat! Help out now!”

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is one of the hottest fantasy movies of the year. With a star-studded cast and a lofty production budget, the film is a hit with both audiences and critics. The stars of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves are just as excited about the project, and have been consistently raving about how much fun the movie was to make. In a recent interview, Regé-Jean Page opened up about the film’s “universal appeal.” He even said that he thinks Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is remarkably similar to The Princess Bride.

It felt good didn’t it? Watching a fantasy film where folks could crack a smile and actually enjoy their adventure. There was certainly danger and monsters in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves—not to mention the roleplaying tabletop game’s namesakes!—but that didn’t mean you couldn’t enjoy the ride.
In the last 20 years, fantasy has largely come to take itself exceedingly seriously where the fate of kingdoms or the entire world often hangs in the balance, and the central heroes who may start merry end the story broken, traumatized, and in a few instances ready to murder their homicidal lover… who is also their aunt.
This past weekend’s winsome D&d movie did away with all that, instead favoring some good old-fashioned romping to go along with a pure cut of high fantasy. If you enjoyed the experience, here are some other fantasy movies we recommend to continue the fun.

Even with only four movies under his belt, Zach Braff has directed more than his fair share of screen legends. His zeitgeist-y indie breakout success, 2004's "Garden State," saw him work with the late Ian Holm, who played Braff's father in the film. Braff's sophomore feature, "Wish I Was Here," then saw Inigo Montoya himself, "Yentl" and "The Princess Bride" actor Mandy Patinkin, step in to portray the "Scrubs" alum's onscreen patriarch.
Braff would remain off-screen for his third outing as a director with "Going in Style," a heist comedy remake that saw him direct no less than Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, and Christopher Lloyd. That's not to overlook the many seasoned character actors Braff has also guided from behind the camera over his career, starting with Jean Smart, Ann Dowd, and Jackie Hoffman in "Garden State." More recently, Braff's reunion with "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence on "Shrinking...

Do you hear that? That distant popping sound? It’s the sound of Netflix bosses cracking open the champagne. Last month, it was announced that Wednesday, the streamer’s series based on the Addams Family character, had become quite the hit. According to data released by Netflix, it surpassed Stranger Things’s record as the platform’s most-watched title ever in a single week. These results claimed that the show had been streamed for a grand total of 341.2 million hours after just seven days. One week later, Wednesday broke its own record, and now has amassed streams of more than 400 million hours. Brilliant news for those involved with the show, but not so great for the future of the small screen.
Wednesday is perfectly serviceable television. It’s jauntily soundtracked (Danny Elfman), indelibly costumed (Colleen Atwood) and excellently cast (John Papsidera and Sophie Holland) – without its spellbinding lead star Jenna Ortega,...

(Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.)
The Movie: "The Princess Bride"
Where You Can Stream It: Disney+
The Pitch: Maybe you've watched "The Princess Bride" a thousand times. Maybe you've never seen it. Either way, I implore you to do it again. I fall into the "thousand times" category, but it had been a while. If you have not yet experienced the wonder that is "The Princess Bride," here's the deal with your future favorite comedy (I feel pretty confident in saying that).
The story begins with a young boy (Fred Savage) who is home sick. His grandfather (Peter Falk) comes to read him a story. At first, the kid is annoyed with it all and wants to skip the "kissing parts," but later gets into the tale.

Wallace Shawn has had a long and impressive career, and yet he is best known by pretty much everyone for a single word: "Inconceivable!" Just about every character in "The Princess Bride" has at least one line so iconic that even those who've not seen the movie have heard the words uttered at some point. As far as what people are remembered for, the actor could do far worse than the beloved film, which was released in 1987 and is widely regarded as a timeless classic.

One of the most intriguing ideas in fiction is that of the gentle giant. The idea of a creature is far more extensive and powerful than humans but gentle and kind-hearted. It’s a concept that has been explored in many different ways over the years and can find some of the best examples in movies about giants throughout film history.
From lovable characters like gentle giants, and humanoid giants to fearsome monsters, these magic beans movies have captured the imaginations of audiences worldwide. Here are just a few of the best examples.
