Byron Burton is a multi-hyphenate talent manager, Marvel credited songwriter (X-Men Apocalypse), and a National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Award winning writer. He is a voting member of the Television Academy, Critics Choice Association, Hollywood Creative Alliance, and Society of Composers and Lyricists.
Having earned a National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Award for his work at The Hollywood Reporter, Byron partnered with Oscar & BAFTA winning filmmaker John Ottman to launch the entertainment site Awards Focus. Byron serves as the site's Chief Critic, Award Editor, and co-founder alongside John Ottman.
As a talent manager, Byron represents composers, actors, and animators for career management, PR guidance, employment offers and personal appearance speaking opportunities.
Notable clients include Film Academy member and Tony winning actor John Glover (WB & DC's Shazam!, Gremlins 2, Scrooged, 52 Pick Up, Smallville, and Fear The Walking Dead); Film Academy member and Emmy winning composer Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, John Q, Alpha Dog, The Other Woman); Oscar & BAFTA winning editor and composer John Ottman (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, Bohemian Rhapsody); and World Soundtrack Nominated composer Lior Rosner (Will & Grace, Q Force, X-Men, Valkyrie, AJ & The Queen).
Additional clients include the voice cast of Disney+ and Marvel's X-Men 97 as well as animator, director, and producer Larry Houston, who was Stan Lee's first African American hire. Houston has the distinction of being an Ink Pot Awarded artist and gave the Black Panther character his first appearance on screen.
As a songwriter, Byron is an active member of BMI and The Society of Composer and Lyricists since writing the lyrics for "Rest Young Child" in Marvel's X-Men Apocalypse film (2016). The song was written in English and subsequently Polish to fit the film's narrative of a generational lullaby. Oscar nominated actor Michael Fassbender sings the song in the film and vocalist Jasper Randall performs the song of the original motion picture soundtrack.
As a moderator, Byron has worked for the major studios and streamers such as Netflix, Apple TV+, Amazon Studios, Hulu, FX, Disney, HBO Max, Warner Bros, Paramount +, and Sony Classics. Moderating highlights include Ingle Dodd's Spotlight Live series held at the Hollywood American Legion, covering the Oscar short-listed creatives behind Jordan Peele's NOPE as well as the director, composer, and Oscar winning sound designer for Amazon Studios' documentary Good Night Oppy.
Additional highlights include moderating the Croatian Consulate's Los Angeles screening of Safe Place (the film was Croatia's official entry for the Academy Awards Best International Film), A24's The Whale panel with composer Rob Simonsen for The Society of Composers and Lyricists, and The ArcLight's Hitting the High Note Oscar series with Oscar nominated songwriter and composer Marc Shaiman.
