On the final night of Olivia Rodrigo’s Madison Square Garden takeover for the Guts world tour, she welcomed Jewel onstage for a dazzling duet of the singer-songwriter’s 1995 hit “You Were Meant for Me.”
“She is such an incredible songwriter. When I first started writing my songs, I would listen to her album Pieces of You before I went to bed,” Rodrigo said, before welcoming Jewel onstage. “She’s incredible and it’s such an honor that she’s here with me tonight.”

Chappell Roan, fresh off her Harvard Med School lecture (about which we still know tantalizingly little), bid farewell to Olivia Rodrigo and the Guts tour with her final show as an opener on Tuesday night, April 2.
After her own set at Boston’s Td Garden, Roan snuck into the front row of the Ga section to watch Rodrigo and prep herself for a surprise cameo. As Rodrigo finished up her end of the show, she hopped down to greet fans at the barricade, only for Roan to pop up and give her a hug.

The nonprofit We Are Moving the Needle presented the Resonator Awards on Tuesday night, an inaugural celebration designed to spotlight women in the music business in a push for creating a more inclusive industry. Naturally, the biggest name in the game received a shout-out from the podium.
Two of Taylor Swift’s close collaborators — producer Jack Antonoff and mixer and recording engineer Laura Sisk — hit the stage inside Beauty & Essex in Hollywood. Antonoff had the honor of presenting the Exceptional Ears Award to Sisk, a three-time Grammy winner who has also worked with Lana Del Rey, Lorde, St. Vincent and Florence + the Machine.
Antonoff kicked off his tribute by detailing that he’s known Sisk for more than a decade. “She’s absolutely fucking incredible,” said Antonoff, one of two speakers from the podium who noted how loudly distracting the event’s kitchen staff was during the program. “I met Laura 12 or 13 years ago,...

Olivia Rodrigo was the musical guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night (December 18th), and she performed a string-assisted rendition of her single “vampire.”
Earlier this month, Rodrigo also performed “vampire” on Saturday Night Live as a solo piano version. This time around, she stood on stage surrounded by a ton of microphones, with a pianist and orchestral string section behind her. With all her focus on the song’s vocals, Rodrigo sounded anything but vampiric.
Watch Rodrigo sing “vampire” on Colbert below.
Rodrigo also recently performed some Guts highlights during an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Beginning in February, she’ll embark on the 75-date “Guts World Tour,” heading to arenas in cities across North America and Europe with support acts like The Breeders, Remi Wolf, and more. Get tickets here.

Olivia Rodrigo served as the musical guest on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, delivering a pair of stellar performances in support of her sophomore album, Guts.
Rodrigo first staged an intimate, solo piano version of “vampire,” before returning for a boisterous and theatrical rendition of “all-american bitch.” The latter performance saw Rodrigo wreck a tea party, stomping, smashing, and smearing cake all over her face.
Rodrigo also appeared in a SNL sketch in which she promoted a tiny ass bag.

A new crowd pleaser has made it to the Paramore set list. The band live debuted their single “Thick Skull” at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, on Sunday night. The audience waved their hands in the air as frontwoman Hayley Williams prompted, “Come on out with your hands up.”
The song is the emotional closer of their latest LP, This Is Why. Paramore performed the song halfway through their Nov. 19 set.
This Is Why is Paramore’s sixth studio album, and their first since 2017’s transformative After Laughter.

Looks like all that time spent jamming to Rage Against the Machine paid off: Olivia Rodrigo has earned a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song, her first in that category, for “ballad of a homeschooled girl.”
You read that right: Much to the chagrin of dudes with an ego and a temper and a wandering eye, pop’s reigning princess has officially infiltrated one of the Recording Academy’s rock categories. “ballad of a homeschooled girl” will compete in the category against The Rolling Stones’ “Angry,” Queens of the Stone Age’s “Emotion Sickness,” boygenius’ “Not Strong Enough,” and Foo Fighters’ “Rescued.”
The garage-inspired “ballad of a homeschooled girl” appears on Rodrigo’s new album Guts, which also got 2024 Grammy nods for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Olivia Rodrigo appeared as a guest on Tuesday’s nights episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she sat down for an interview and performed “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl” from her latest album, Guts. However, prior to visiting the studio she caught a ride with Kimmel and his family as they drove to school.
Kimmel and his wife Molly surprised their children, Jane and Billy, by stopping to pick up a hitchhiker, who just so happened to be the 20-year-old pop singer. Rodrigo squeezed in the middle seat and led the kids in singing some backseat karaoke. Nine-year-old Jane Kimmel seemed particularly overwhelmed by the experience.
Meanwhile, during an interview with their dad, Rodrigo discussed how her family is dealing with her rise to fame and shared a funny anecdote about how her mom unintentionally implied that her daughter was a stripper. She also spoke about how she toned some of the lyrics to Guts,...

The Amazon Prime Video series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has made a splash with its loaded soundtrack. By now it is safe to say that “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and Taylor Swift go hand in hand because author and show creator Jenny Han has made it so.
The first season had five Swift songs ranging from her “Lover” album to “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” and the Season 1 trailer debuted “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” from the yet-to-be-released re-recorded “1989.” Season 2’s teaser was set to “August,” and then the official trailer debuted “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” shortly before “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” was released July 7. Only time will tell if Season 2 ties Season 1 for how many Taylor Swift songs it contains.
The sequel season’s summer-y soundtrack also contains hits from repeat artists Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, Caroline Polachek and more. A Fleetwood Mac ballad punctuates a particularly emotional scene,...

Musical tag-teaming doesn’t have results much more fruitful than what came about when the showrunners of “A Small Light” picked Ariel Marx to compose the score for the limited series and Este Haim to serve as executive music producer. Neither Haim nor Marx was in a position to take anything about the job lightly, given that the eight-episode series for National Geographic and Disney+ tells the story of a Dutch woman, Miep Gies, who helped hide Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis. Yet, in their very separate roles, both found ways to bring musical light or even levity into a drama that inevitably skews toward tension.
Este Haim took on the Emp job for the first time with “A Small Light” after previously scoring or co-composing “Maid” and “Cha Cha Smooth” — on top of her day job as one-third of the rocking sister trio Haim. For “A Small Light,...
