Born on an Air Force base in Germany, Pierce is a graduate of Hunter College where she earned a B.A. in Sociology, the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a Masters of Science in Sociology, and the University of Arizona where she earned an M.F.A. in Theatre Arts (with a focus on Dramaturgy).
Throughout her professional, creative, and academic journey, she's studied seven languages, published six science fiction novels, has worked as a dramaturg and development assistant for aspiring and upcoming playwrights and screenwriters, and she has written, produced, and/or directed several productions in the mediums of theatre and film.
Vanisha has also established (and is slowly growing) Rebel Ragdoll, an independent, female-identified trans-media company dedicated to increasing the presence of female creatives of color in publishing, film/TV production, and 3D game development. One of the ultimate goals of Rebel Ragdoll is to firmly establish its film and television division: Rebel Ragdoll Productions. RRP aims to own its own TV networks, studio, and production company and to create a vertically integrated pipeline through which it may develop, produce, and distribute film and TV programming in the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, action, and horror, produced for and by people of color.
Her most recent project is a limited survival horror TV series called "Sandman". It's the debut production of her production house, Rebel Ragdoll Productions.
