Back in March, I wrote a column about the Netflix Effect, and the boost that non-Netflix shows often get when they arrive on the streaming giant. One of the series I used as an example was Resident Alien, starring Alan Tudyk as an extraterrestrial posing as a Colorado small-town doctor after being stranded by a spaceship crash; I had barely watched it in its primary home on Syfy, only to begin bingeing it once the first two seasons joined the Netflix library. In that column, I observed, “It’s often...

House of the Dragon Producers Reveal Plans for Season 3 - Main Image
The first season of House of the Dragon was released to great success. Thus, it’s a no-brainer that it was renewed for another season, though with a reduced episode count. Now, the show's producers share their plans for House of the Dragon Season 3 in case HBO renews the show.
Compared to the 10-episode first season, House of the Dragon Season 2 will only have eight episodes.
Of course, many expected it to be as long as the first one, but the producers revealed they had no control over the reduced episode count.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series’ executive producer, Sara Hess, claimed this move wasn’t a creative call. Though she couldn’t say anything about it, she stressed it “wasn’t really our choice.”
But despite this change, plans for the hit HBO series are already sealed.

Their acting skills have drawn attention and appreciation from critics and spectators alike. Their co-stars in House of the Dragon think highly of them. Hence, Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, was the first person to inform and congratulate D’Arcy on their first ever Golden Globe nomination.

If everything wasn’t of the greatest caliber, a show like Game of Thrones would not have reached such heights. The two areas where the play truly excelled were the costume and wig designs. Hence, its prequel House of the Dragon including some of the best TV costumes and wigs ever produced shouldn’t come as a surprise. And Emma D’Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra, absolutely loves them.
Emma D’Arcy loves their House of the Dragon wig
The reaction to the wigs on House of the Dragon has been quite mixed. However, the one D’Arcy wears for Rhaenyra has been loved unanimously. In a recent interview with the Es magazine, D’Arcy said: “I’m very lucky, I look very different in the show. The blonde wig is a piece of armour that protects me. I have a very normal, ordinary day-to-day life and it suits me.”

A year ago, Emma D’Arcy unwittingly boosted sales of an alcoholic beverage and its ingredients. If you’re not familiar with the situation, Max released a TikTok featuring House of the Dragon co-stars Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke. In the video, they discuss their favorite cocktails, and D’Arcy says, “Negroni, Sbagliato, with prosecco.” It went viral and became one of the most famous memes of 2022. However, she is not fond of the meme.
Olivia Cooke didn’t like being in a meme
Despite the popular meme adding to their fame, D’Arcy hated the clip that went on to go so viral. During the recent photoshoot with EW, D’Arcy confessed: “I don’t have anything illuminating to say on it because it’s very hard to know how to react when you become a meme.”
Cooke explained, “We were just trying to make each other laugh. There’s...

The history of the Targaryens is as convoluted and twisted as it comes. There is good reason to fear this fabled family—they are notorious for their incest, internal strife, and constant backstabbing. The Blacks and Greens, who formed the once powerful House of the Dragon, split apart and are taking up positions on opposing sides of the battleground. And Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra, leading the Blacks, will be seen in a completely different form.
Rhaenyra’s sense of betrayal in House of the Dragon Season 2
After witnessing a series of deaths and betrayals, Rhaenyra is in a deep state of mourning. D’Arcy, in a recent interview with the Es magazine, states, “Those who’ve watched the first series will know that we left Rhaenyra having just received the news of her son’s murder. We pick up in series two about two weeks later, so that loss remains very raw.

While mainstream media celebrities have to fight for every role in order to get some recognition from the audience, Internet fame is much more random and heavily based on the virality of the content you put out there. Once something goes viral, it's almost impossible to stop the hype train or change its direction.
Every once in a while, the two worlds collide and celebrities end up going viral on the Internet. Sometimes it has to do with some sort of scandal, but more often than not, they end up becoming memes. What the social media crowd doesn't think about is how easy it is for the actor to get lost behind the meme.

House of the Dragon stars, Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy, might feud on-screen, but in real life, they both agree going viral and becoming a meme is not a good experience.
In 2022, the duo were doing promo for the premiere of the Game of Thrones spinoff, where they each took turns asking each other questions picked out of a bowl.
Cooke drew a question that prompted her to ask D’Arcy what was her drink of choice.
“Negroni Spagliato with prosecco in it,” D’Arcy said, which led Cooke to react and say, “Stunnin!”
The Bates Motel alum would then go viral and become a meme, something she is not too happy about.
“I did hate it for a very long time,” she said in an interview with EW. “I was in the pub. A woman opened the door for me and she said with a thick Spanish accent, ‘Stunnin’!’ I was just like,...

“House of the Dragon” stars Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy have started the promotional train for Season 2 of the “Game of Thrones” spinoff by gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest digital issue, but they’re still somewhat haunted by one insanely viral moment from their Season 1 press tour. That would be the Negroni Spagliato meme.
It all started when Cooke and D’Arcy were flown from San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022 to San Francisco to shoot promos for “House of the Dragon.” HBO tasked the two actors with asking each other questions on video. Cooke told EW they “were put into this room and we were just so jet-lagged,” and the viral moment was born when Cooke asked D’Arcy the following question: “What’s your drink of choice?”
“Negroni Spagliato with prosecco in it,” D’Arcy answered, which prompted Cookie to let out in her Greater Manchester accent:...

On Tuesday, HBO released the full trailer for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, which premieres June 16.
The eight-episode second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel finds the Targaryens in a civil war, with the Greens – supporters of Aegon II Targaryn (Tom Glynn-Carney), son of late king Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the traditional heir – on one side, and the Blacks – partisans of Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Viserys’ chosen heir, and her husband/uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) on the other. Both sides claim the Iron Throne, and they will kill their kin to get it.
The trailer previews the combination of political strategy, intense action, and interpersonal backstabbing that’s the “Game of Thrones” franchise’s signature. On the political side, there’s a small council meeting where Aegon forcefully rejects the idea of dignity in favor of revenge. On the action side,...

“House of the Dragon” Season 2 is about to soar onto screens soon.
After Season 2 was first unveiled at Ccxp in Sao Paolo in December 2023 with a teaser, and later released viral dueling trailers, the season of the dragon is almost upon audiences. Season 2 will not have a time jump like in Season 1, and instead solely focus on former besties turned step-family Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) as they both battle for the Iron Throne.
Per the official synopsis, after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), an undeniable rift has grown between his daughter Rhaenyra (D’Arcy) and wife Alicent (Cooke), after their close friendship as teenagers. A rift that’s now a full-blown civil war.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” and is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”
In addition to Cooke and D’Arcy, fellow returning cast members include Matt Smith,...

Well, that was an action-packed finale!
Finally, most of the town is in on the alien joke, and the story is the better for it.
We could have spent a lot of time goofing around with Harry being a dufus in Patience, but Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 8 set him and everyone up for a crazy story expansion for a potential fourth season.
While Resident Alien hasn't been renewed yet, with word of mouth and excellent storytelling, it has to return.
Syfy hasn't had a hit this big in years, and it's not easy to build a show of this magnitude or keep up its momentum. They have done that excellently here.
The season finale didn't waste any time. There were very few normal Patience happenings, with the exception of Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv, who will never stop bickering (and we hope they never do!).

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 8 of Resident Alien, “Homecoming.” If you don’t want to be spoiled, go check on the Hawthornes.] Wait, what? The moon is a… what? And there are two Harrys? And the Alien Tracker is now… a cyborg? Resident Alien has always been a wild ride but the third-season finale was a full journey. Literally from Earth into orbit. And along the way, fans of TV’s best sci-fi comedy going got so many twists and flips and frickin’ moments to talk about, we don’t know where to begin. Syfy Throughout most of the season, the action revolved around curmudgeonly E.T. Harry (Alan Tudyk) and human pal Asta (Sara Tomko) racing to find a way to stop the alien hybrids known as the Greys from taking over the planet. With some surprising help from Asta’s bestie D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund), as well as ex-pat Grey Joseph (Enver Gjokaj) and Harry...

Love changes a person, and on Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 7, Harry comes to that realization after dealing with his breakup.
Nobody should be robbed of the experience, no matter how difficult it is to handle.
Let's just thank goodness that most of us don't have to go on a killing spree for our hearts to grow three sizes.
Lovelorn Harry was growing old fast, so I'm thankful he found more love to fill his broken heart.
But until he learned what it was like to have his heart smashed to bits, he was incapable of putting others before himself.
"Here Comes My Baby" was another installment heavy on laughs, with a few important developments tossed into the mix.
Laughter is the best medicine, they say, but what they forget is that when it comes to discussing TV, if laughter is all you've got, talking about it isn't the easiest thing to do.

Are you Team Green or Team Black?
HBO has released two new trailers for the upcoming second season of its “Game of Thrones” spinoff series “House of the Dragon.”

Yes, tense roommate issues trump aliens and bombs. Anyone who has been annoyed with their roommates knows it's true.
You can become so consumed with the fact someone ate your last yogurt without asking that a nuclear bomb could hit you, and you still wouldn't be able to shake it.
So, it's no surprise that D'Arcy and Asta are at odds. They are very different people who love one another a lot. That's a recipe for disaster.
Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 6 was kind of a filler episode with bits of information affecting the overall season arc sprinkled in.
The full flavor of the episode was how those you love the most can be the most disappointing, and to that end, it worked very well.
D'Arcy Bloom has been doing a lot of self-reflection. She's looking at her mistakes and holding herself to a new standard. Is she going too far?...

Enjoy Heather the Avian Alien while you can, folks, because if the title of the next episode is any indication, she's soon leaving the nest.
The title is "Bye Bye Birdie."
If there's one thing that we know after Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 5, it's that Harry isn't going to save the world if Heather sticks around.
Kudos again to Alan Tudyk and Edi Patterson for putting so much life into Harry and Heather as they flock together.
I often wonder what the blooper reel for Resident Alien must be like, and after watching those two at the friendly dinner at Asta and D'Arcy's place, I'm more certain than ever they'd need an additional season to share all of the blooper joy.
With so much comedic antics going on, you might think there wouldn't be much time for story, but you'd be wrong.

If you wondered how well change would fare for our favorite earth-bound alien, by the end of Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 2, it's clear there was nothing to fear.

"You ever seen anyhing that wasn't there?" Apple TV has unveiled a new "Inside Look" featurette for their sci-fi thriller series titled Constellation, described as an "action-packed space adventure [about] the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman's desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel." Created and written by Peter Harness, Constellation stars Noomi Rapace as Jo – an astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space – only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The series also stars Jonathan Banks, James D'Arcy, Julian Looman, William Catlett, Barbara Sukowa; introducing Rosie & Davina Coleman as Alice. I quite like what D'Arcy says at the end of this video: "The show plays with that gray area of...

Emma D’Arcy’s first-ever short film “The Talent”, which is still in post-production, has already been nominated for an award in the Best British category at next month’s Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival in Cardiff, Wales, where the winners will be announced.
The “House of the Dragon” star produced the 15-minute film, which they also star in as Tommy — “a transmasculine production assistant, assigned as a dogsbody to cater to the caffeine needs of the cast and crew working on a high-end car commercial,” as per Deadline.

The 2023 Emmy nominations are here. The slate of nominees include "Succession" (which aired its final season this spring), "Ted Lasso" (which also just wrapped up its last season), "Yellowjackets," and many more. And while there are some long-deserved Emmy nominations we're very excited about, there are also a lot of nominations that didn't happen, leaving viewers and fans surprised at these major misses. Ahead, these are the biggest snubs of the 2023 Emmy nominations.
Emmys Snub: The Cast of "House of the Dragon"
"House of the Dragon," the "Game of Thrones" prequel series that won fans' hearts last fall, was nominated for nine awards. None of them were for acting, despite a very strong ensemble. Most egregious in our eyes is the exclusion of Emma D'Arcy's leading performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen. D'Arcy's portrayal of the heir in an impossible position is full of nuance, pain, and tenderness. And if...

“House of the Dragon” will be looking to chase down its predecessor “Game of Thrones” at this year’s Emmys. “Thrones” followed a battle for the Iron Throne between major political players while the looming threat of an age-old figure, the Night King, began to rise once more. “House of the Dragon,” meanwhile, set nearly 200 years before “Thrones,” follows the civil war between the Targaryen family as they fight to rule Westeros. Both shows feature astonishing casts with brilliant performances, but “House of the Dragon” will be looking to match or beat the Emmys feat that the “Thrones” cast managed — 10 acting nominations in a single year for its cast.
“Thrones” was a mammoth player at the Emmys, winning an whopping 59 awards across its eight seasons. In total, the show’s cast was nominated 32 times. Here’s the breakdown: Seasons one and two garnered just a single bid — Peter Dinklage for...

Before cameras rolled at THR’s Drama Actress Emmy Roundtable, Jennifer Garner turned to Jennifer Coolidge and asked whether she’d be returning for The White Lotus season three. It was an innocent question and an instant giveaway that the Last Thing He Told Me star had yet to see the season two finale, in which (spoiler!) Coolidge’s character takes a header off a boat and drowns. There was a moment of awkward silence, and then Coolidge filled her in. “Nooo!” Garner shrieked in response. But before she could pepper Coolidge with follow-ups, the more formal discussion between the two and their fellow performers — Dominique Fishback (Swarm), Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets, The Last of Us), Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon) and Claire Danes (Fleishman Is in Trouble) — began. Over the course of an hour, the sextet got candid about navigating the Hollywood system, paparazzi cameras and gender norms.

Emma D’Arcy was feeling like a bit of a cheat. It was July of 2022 at the world premiere of House of the Dragon in Los Angeles. Stylishly dressed in an oversized suit and drop earrings, D’Arcy worked the red carpet like an old pro but never felt completely at ease among the hundreds of eager fans who packed the Academy Museum theater. “It’s like finding yourself in someone else’s life,” recalls the actor, who plays Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO drama that’s based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. “It’s quite wild having never done that before, and certainly not on that scale, obviously, with one of the biggest shows in the world. And I am quite camera shy, which is obviously a disaster.”

It was really challenging,” reveals director Clare Kilner about taking on the pivotal ninth episode of HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” For our recent webchat she adds, “when the episode came out, my friends threw a party and I saw everyone’s reactions when that dragon came out. It was really exciting and fun to connect with the audience in that way, to really be able to entertain and shock.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

When the 2023 Tony nominations were released on May 2, two nominees made history. "Shucked" star Alex Newell and "Some Like It Hot" star J. Harrison Ghee became the first openly nonbinary people to receive a nomination in the acting categories. But, the news comes with a little sting: the Tonys don't have gender neutral acting categories, so both Newell and Ghee are nominated in the "actor" category.
The call for gender neutral acting categories at major award shows has grown in recent years, thanks in large part to the increased visibility of nonbinary actors. "Yellowjackets" star Liv Hewson, who plays Teen Van on the show, told Variety in April that they wouldn't be submitting for the Emmys at all because of the show's gender-segregated categories.
"I don't want the limitations in terms of the language in the categories to be a reason that nonbinary actors like me can't be celebrated."

George R.R. Martin is no newcomer to transformation. After “Game of Thrones” revolutionized the fantasy landscape and paved the way for genre series to achieve mainstream acclaim, he and “House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal set their sights on another mighty challenge by crafting a female-centric spin-off.
“If you’re going to make a successful spin-off or sequel, it has to have a reason to exist,” Condal said. “There were great female characters in the original show, but really, other than Cersei, no [woman] really ascends to power the way that both Alicent and Rhaenyra do in their own ways.”
That would be Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), the dueling heroines of HBO’s prequel series that takes place almost 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.” Whereas that show featured...

In an effort to combat the joyless, monochromatic fuddy-duddies trying to ban drag performers with legislature, the city of San Francisco has appointed its first “drag laureate”: performer and nightclub owner D’Arcy Drollinger. The city’s mayor, London Breed, said the role made sense for a city with a long history of supporting LGBTQ+ rights. Drollinger will receive a $55,000 stipend from government funds for the position — the first of its kind in the nation — for a year and a half of service, according to The Associated Press.

“House of the Dragon” looks set to, uh, cook up a storm at this year’s Emmys including bids for many of the cast. Among those most deserving of consideration is Olivia Cooke, who plays the older version of Queen Alicent Hightower in the HBO epic.
Set a century before “Game of Thrones,” “House of the Dragon” depicts the blossoming conflict between several major Westeros families after Paddy Considine‘s King Viserys names his daughter Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock/Emma D’Arcy) as his heir. This leads to various parties vying for the Iron Throne in the ongoing Targaryen war of succession. Alicent Hightower marries King Viserys and births a son, Aegon Targaryen (Ty Tennant/Tom Glynn-Carney), who later challenges for the throne.
As such, Cooke is a major player in “House of the Dragon” and appears in the last half of season one, starting with episode six’s “The Princess and the Queen.

“House of the Dragon” looks set to continue the trend that its predecessor, “Game of Thrones,” set with a slew of its stellar cast contending for Emmys. Currently, we are predicting three of the ongoing cast of this HBO hit — Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, and Matt Smith — to reap Emmy bids for their performances. They will contend in lead drama actress, lead drama actor and supporting drama actor respectively.
But we just launched our prediction center for guest stars and we are predicting that three of the performers who appeared in only a handful of episodes will make an impression on TV academy voters. Tom Glynn-Carney and Ty Tennant are among those vying for Best Drama Guest Actor bids while Bethany Antonia is among the hopefuls for Best Drama Guest Actress.

Bella Ramsey leads our MTV Movie and TV Awards predictions for Best Breakthrough Performance for her role as Ellie in “The Last of Us,” the HBO series based on the much-loved video game about a zombie apocalypse. If she wins, she would join an impressive list of stars who leveled up in their careers and continued to after winning.
The 19-year-old actress could have won this award at least once before this. She first rose to prominence as young noblewoman Lyanna Mormont, who had grit beyond her years on “Game of Thrones.” But she leveled up with her leading role as Ellie, and perhaps both powerful fandoms will join forces to get her the Golden Popcorn. As of this writing she gets leading odds of 16/5 with 18 of our Top 24 Users and an overwhelming 21 of our All-Star Top 24 betting on her to prevail.

“Game of Thrones” consistently landed loads of Emmy nominations for each of its eight seasons, including several each time for its eclectic cast. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) was consistently the pick of the bunch, contending each and every season and winning a whopping four times. Now, it’s the turn of the “Thrones'” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” to step into the Emmy spotlight.
Here are five cast members who deserve Emmy consideration.
Emma D’Arcy
D’Arcy plays the older version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is at the center of the entire series. D’Arcy, who is non-binary, imbued Rhaenyra with a steely power and held a commanding presence while on screen. She is a strong contender for Best Drama Actress, ranking just behind Melanie Lynskey (“Yellowjackets”) and Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”) and just ahead of Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Sharon Morgan...
