Gaming fans got their first look at the “Borderlands” movie adaptation, with Jamie Lee Curtis snapping a sleek, behind-the-scenes photo of star Cate Blanchett as Lilith, one of the game’s most beloved characters.
“Welcome to Borderlands & a secret BTS shot I took of Lilith, our legendary heroine, psycho blasting, vault hunting vixen with a bad attitude,” Curtis said in a tweet.

Just when you thought the G.I. Joe franchise had been quietly decommissioned, Hollywood finds a way.
After years of radio silence, Paramount has today blown the dust off its dormant action series to announce a release date for G.I. Joe 3: March 27th, 2020.
It’s the first tangible sign of development since the release of Retaliation in 2013, when G.I. Joe was placed on hiatus indefinitely to allow time for Dwayne Johnson’s busy schedule – not unlike Fast and Furious, the Jumanji star entered the series in time for Retaliation, which was a much-needed upgrade over the po-faced Rise of the Cobra.
Fast forward to now, and a G.I. Joe 3 is officially in the pipeline. Last we reported, Aaron Berg and D.J. Caruso (xXx: The Return of Xander Cage) had been hired to write and direct, respectively, though it’s unclear if any cast members (see: Johnson,...

It’s going on 14 months now since we last caught wind of Lionsgate’s planned Borderlands movie, but according to Randy Pitchford, the adaptation continues to simmer in pre-production with Aaron Berg (G.I. Joe, Section 6) and the team still in the process of developing scripts.
Chatting to Geoff Keighley on YouTube Live at E3 (via Gamezone), the Gearbox CEO also confirmed that Lionsgate’s big-screen adaptation will be rooted in the Borderlands universe – an irreverent, zany space western that is arguably one of the more rich universes in gaming – while still featuring a self-contained story that isn’t beholden to the franchise’s canon.
It’s still early, early days, as evidenced by Pitchford’s hesitancy to divulge anything too specific. Nevertheless, a live-action Borderlands movie is on the way, and with the runaway success of R-rated comic book movies (see: Deadpool, Logan), there is perhaps no better...

The Borderlands movie is being pitched as 'Mad Max in space'...
One of the many movies based on videogames heading our way is a film based on the Borderlands titles. Gearbox’s action RPG series began life in 2009, and the film version is being produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man) and his son, Ari Arad.
The plan is to make an R-rated movie based on Borderlands, one that aims for a ‘Mad Max in space’ kind of feel.
A new writer has been hired too, with Aaron Berg set to pen the Borderlands movie. Berg previously took a pass at penning G.I. Joe 3.
No director has been hired for Borderlands as of yet, but we do know that Lionsgate is the studio behind the movie. More as we hear it…

"Section 6" and "G.I. Joe 3" writer Aaron Berg has been brought onboard to pen the script for the film version of the video game series "Borderlands" at Lionsgate.
Based on Gearbox Software's popular first-person role-playing shooter game which launched in 2009, the story is set on a frontier planet that was being mined by convicts for the Dahl Corporation.
The company abandoned them there to scavenge amongst the isolated settlements in the barren wastelands filled with dangerous wildlife. People still come to the planet though in search of a mythical vault of powerful alien technology.
The "Borderlands" franchise has sold over 26 million game copies since its launch. Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce the film which is said to be an "edgy, R-rated" version of the material.

Strap on your duster jackets, folks, because it looks like Lionsgate is moving forward with their adaptation of the space western video game, Borderlands. According to THR, the studio has hired Aaron Berg to pen the script for the flick. If you haven't heard of Mr. Berg, there's a reason for it. The writer is a relatively new talent who was hired to write G.I. Joe 3 around this time last year. His only other credit is that of a spec script called Section 6, which was purchased by Universal back in 2013.
Obviously this is an early step of many in the entire film production process. With films like Warcraft and Assassin's Creed on the horizon, Lionsgate is no doubt getting its ducks in a row for its own video game property in hopes that the aforementioned films will find a big audience. Back when the studio first nabbed the rights to the video game,...

Aaron Berg, writer behind G.I. Joe 3 and the spy thriller Section 6, has been drafted in to pen the script for Lionsgate’s live-action Borderlands movie, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
First announced in August of last year, the studio’s vision for a “no-holds-barred” feature film based on Gearbox’s sci-fi franchise reportedly leans closer to an edgy, R-rated rendition of the studio’s space western. Taking place on the planet Pandora, the original video game franchise is celebrated for its wonderfully over-the-top humor and sense of style, and has since sold upwards of 26 million copies since the first game arrived in 2009.

Universal won a bidding war for Aaron Berg's script two years ago. Joe Cornish ("Attack the Block") was slated to direct and Jack O'Connell ("Unbroken") to star but the project ran afoul of copyright infringement claims from Mg and James Bond rights holder Danjaq who claimed it to be a Bond knockoff.
The parties settled earlier this year, paving the way for the project to move forward. Whether O'Connell or Cornish will remain involved is uncertain. Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Nira Park and Lawrence Grey will produce.

Also: details on Dracula's prop auction, XLrator Media's 24 Hour Rental, a video tribute to Friday the 13th Part VIII called "Voorhees Stomp", a new poster for The Hexecutioners, and release details for Krampus: The Reckoning.
Casper Van Dien Q&A: "June tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice) who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. And though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes, a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow. It’s only when June is sent to live with a new couple, Lily (Pratt) and Dave (Van Dien), that it looks as if things might finally work out. Except this innocent child with the face of an angel is possessed by an ancient, malevolent entity that has hijacked her soul.

The chances of G.I. Joe 3 making a 2016 release seem slim, as Paramount hires a writer to start over on the project.
The current plan with G.I. Joe 3 is for Paramount to have the film in cinemas at some point in 2016, but to date, that's not been confirmed. Certainly the studio is going to need to get a crack on to meet such a deadline, as production does not seem close to starting. Furthermore, the studio has hired a new writer to take a crack at the script.
The writer concerned is Section 6's Aaron Berg, and he's basically going back to square one now. The earlier drafts of the G.I. Joe 3 screenplay, that had been written by Evan Daugherty and Jonathan Lemkin, are seemingly not being used.
It's been known for a while that D J Caruso would be taking over the director's chair for the new movie,...

A California judge rejected MGM and Danjaq's efforts to get a peek at Universal's work on a “Section 6” movie, which the two companies claim will infringe upon the copyright of their James Bond film properties, according to court documents obtained by TheWrap. In filing the copyright infringement suit, MGM and Danjaq had applied for an expedited discovery – seeking an early look at Universal's script and notes on the film. They wanted to learn more about new developments on the movie, such as what Universal is communicating to screenwriter Aaron Berg about potential infringements. The judge rejected that ex parte.

An interesting fight is brewing between MGM and Universal. Last year, Universal paid $1.2 million to acquire the rights to Section 6, a screenplay by Aaron Berg. Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish is attached to direct, and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken, Skins) is set to play the lead. But on Friday, MGM filed a lawsuit to prevent production, claiming that the project is a James Bond “knockoff” and that it infringes on their mark.
Section 6 is about the creation of MI6 during World War I, focusing on the agency’s first director, George Mansfield Cummings, who was the inspiration for “M” in the Bond series. It is set long before any of the Bond books or films. Reading that description, you might think that MGM is being overly aggressive, trying to prevent any other film about MI6 being made, ever.
However, according to the filing, Section 6 features “a daring,...

On Friday, MGM and Danjaq (the holding company responsible for all filmic representations of Ian Fleming's James Bond material) filed a lawsuit against a Universal project called Section 6. The Aaron Berg screenplay, which Universal bought last year for $1.2 million, tells the story of MI6's creation during World War I, and examines the spy agency's first director, George Mansfield Cummings. Though it's set well before the James Bond series begins, MGM still sees egregious overlap. From the April 3 filing: "This lawsuit concerns a motion picture project, in active development, featuring a daring, tuxedo-clad British secret agent, employed by 'His Majesty’s Secret Service,' with a 'license to kill,' and a 00 secret agent number on a mission to save England from the diabolical plot of a megalomaniacal villain. Most moviegoers would assume from that description alone that this lawsuit concerns the next James Bond picture. It does not.

MGM and James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli feel they have their own license to kill--film projects, that is, that they allege violate their copyrights to the 007 character and series. MGM had warned Universal not to go forward with a spy movie titled Section 6 that purports to explore the fact-based origins of MI6 in the aftermath of Wwi. The Bond producers and MGM stated their concerns that leaked elements of the screenplay showed plot devices that they allege are clearly inspired by the works of Ian Fleming including the fact that British agents have been assigned licenses to kill and that they carry "00" status. Both of those attributes are fictional and are directly linked to Fleming's creation. MGM has filed suit this week against Universal and screenwriter Aaron Berg alleging that Section 6 is clearly based on elements of the Bond books and films.

MGM and Danjaq have sued Universal, accusing the film studio of developing a James Bond “knock-off” that infringes upon their copyright, according to documents filed Thursday in a United States District Court. The project in question is “Section 6,” a film in development based on Aaron Berg's screenplay. Berg, also a defendant in the case, sold the project to Universal last year after an intense bidding war. The historical spy thriller chronicles the formation of British intelligence agency MI6 around the time of World War I – before any of the Bond movies took place. It also examines its first.

(Cbr) Joe Cornish has at last found his follow-up to 2011′s "Attack the Block," with TheWrap reporting he’ll direct Jack O’Connell in Universal Pictures’ "Section 6." The thriller explores the origins of England’s spy organization MI6 going back to its World War I roots. The studio bought Aaron Berg’s script in October. Cornish collaborated with Edgar Wright on "Ant-Man," with the two teaming up again to rewrite Steven Moffat’s script for "The Adventures of Tintin." "Attack the Block" marked his feature directorial debut. O’Connell’s star has been on the rise since he starred in the U.K. television drama "Skins." He currently appears in "300: Rise of an Empire," and will star in Angelina Jolie’s adaptation of "Unbroken." Universal announced the actor’s involvement in the project in February.

The search for a director for Universal’s red-hot spy thriller, Section 6, has now come to an end. After looking at names like David MacKenzie and Tom Hooper, the studio has settled on Mr. Joe Cornish. Best known for his excellent sci-fi comedy Attack The Block, Cornish will direct rising star Jack O’Connell in the film, which follows the “World War I-era formation of British intelligence agency MI6 and its first director, Sir George Mansfield Cummings, who served as the inspiration for M in the James Bond series.”
Considering that Universal purchased Aaron Berg’s spec script for $1.2 million, hopes are high that the studio has something special on their hands here. The plot certainly sounds like perfect material for a thrilling tale, and with Cornish and O’Connell now locked in, this one has all the makings of solid British spy film that could very well rival...

Joe Cornish has taken his time finding the right project to follow directorial debut Attack The Block. And to be fair to the man, he’s also been distracted by writing assignments including the years-long work on Ant-Man with Edgar Wright. It would seem that Universal has finally found the right fit for him, as Cornish is reportedly aboard to make Section 6.Jack O’Connell is aboard to star in the historical spy drama based on Aaron Berg’s script. The basic concept, as the name suggests, follows the agents involved in the founding of MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service (or to give the acronym its full explanation, Military Intelligence, Section Six). Attack the Block writer and director Joe Cornish is taking the reins on Universal Pictures' Section 6 , TheWrap reports. Aaron Berg's script for the film came in at No. 2 on last year's Black List of unproduced screenplays and is described as follows: An exploration of the formation of Great Britain's secret intelligence agencey, Military Intelligence, Section 6, known more commonly as MI6. Cornish, long rumored to be next in line to take on a 13th Star Trek feature film, also co-wrote the upcoming Ant-Man with Edgar Wright. Lawrence Grey, who developed the script for Section 6 with Berg, will produce with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel of Marc Platt Productions. When Fox officially announced the cast for The Fantastic Four recently, many people complained that all the actors were probably too young to take on the classic comic characters - so I have to wonder how those same people will feel about a new movie with a spy who is only 23 years old. For the lead in their upcoming historical thriller Section 6, Universal has brought in British actor Jack O.Connell, who is predicted to make critics go gaga later this year with his performance in Angelina Jolie.s sophomore directorial effort Unbroken. It.s an interesting choice, and much better than casting Zac Efron as James Bond, for far more than one reason. This will be the first film from screenwriter Aaron Berg, who found himself in the middle of a bidding war some months back. Universal dropped a cool million for the script to Section 6 and...

Most of us are probably unfamiliar with Jack O’Connell, but that may change very soon. The UK actor is slowly rising the ladder of fame and with a starring role in Angelina Jolie’s WWII film Unbroken and a supporting part in next month’s 300: Rise of an Empire, his name should be on the tongues of moviegoers in no time.
Of course, those across the pond probably already know O’Connell from his time on television’s Skins, and those who frequent the festival circuit might have caught him in Starred Up or ’71 (both of which have been showered with praise from critics).
With the actor slowly making his way into Hollywood, it looks as if Universal wants to hop on board the Jack O’Connell train once more (they are also distributing Unbroken) as they’ve just cast him in their spy flick Section 6. The Aaron Berg-scripted film,...

Universal Pictures is doubling down on its “Unbroken” star Jack O’Connell, who is in final negotiations for the younger lead in the studio’s prized spy movie “Section 6,” multiple individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap. With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.
To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is. Production for last year’s top film, Draft Day, is underway with the theatrical release scheduled for April, so there’s a pretty good chance that...
