Award season will bring such titles as The Killer and Maestro, and now Netflix is promoting a bevy of other titles in various genres for the rest of the year.

Earlier this year, we covered Aliens: Colonial Marines, which may have put the player into the boots of the galaxy’s toughest soldiers, but fundamentally misunderstood what made James Cameron’s 1986 classic Aliens timelessly terrifying. So, color me surprised when the latest attempt at bottling that magic, Aliens: Dark Descent, not only replicates the tension and terror of the film but manages to achieve this from a top-down Rts perspective.
Structurally, Aliens: Dark Descent shares some connective DNA with Firaxis Games’ Xcom reboots. You manage a squad deployed on missions, between which you manage a base and soldiers’ wellbeing. And that’s where the comparisons end. Aliens: Dark Descent’s combat playing out in real (or slow-mo) time replicates the urgency of marines duking it out with xenomorphs on Hadley’s Hope. And when the stakes are this high, as death is inevitable in Aliens: Dark Descent, it makes for...

Toronto (Canada), June 9 (Ians) China’s Carl Yuan produced some of his best golf in months with a stellar 4-under 68 in the first round of the Canadian Open, leaving him one shot off the lead on a jam-packed leaderboard.
The 26-year-old Yuan has been struggling to find his form in his rookie season on the PGA Tour, making the cut only five times in 16 starts. On Thursday, he opted for a carefree approach which saw him free-wheel his way to seven birdies at Oakdale Golf and Country Club here.
He trails first-round co-leaders — Aaron Rai, Chesson Hadley, Corey Conners and Justin Lower — in the US$9 million tournament, with two-time defending champion Rory McIlroy opening with a 71.
Korean S.H. Kim also enjoyed a 68 to share fifth place alongside Yuan, who posted his lowest opening-round score (in an individual tournament) since last October, as he continued to impress in his rookie season.

In the aftermath of the shock ouster of NBC Universal’s CEO, industry executives present a tale of two Jeff Shells. To some, Shell’s acknowledgment that he was departing because of “an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company” came as a bolt from the blue. To others, not so much.
“I’m totally flabbergasted,” says an executive who says he was close to Shell. “Jeff was supposed to be the buttoned-up guy.” Asked if he had suspicions of improper conduct, a former NBCU executive says, “No, not at all. Not even a whiff. Not even an inkling.” Another, though not a fan of Shell, says, “I’ve never seen any of that [kind of behavior]. Never. I’ve never even seen him be flirtatious.”
A different portrait emerges from other NBCU sources. Shell “always had a crush on someone,” says one (female) former insider. “I knew he had crushes and said inappropriate things.

Exclusive: Multiple sources tell Deadline that the woman who filed the complaint against NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell for inappropriate conduct was CNBC anchor and Senior International Correspondent Hadley Gamble.
NBCU parent Comcast announced earlier today that Shell is leaving after an investigation by outside counsel; Shell acknowledged that “I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company, which I deeply regret.” We have reached out to Gamble for comment; there has been no response yet.
Deadline has learned that Shell had a relationship with Gamble which started about 11 years ago and continued sporadically up until a couple of years ago when it ended. Shell was chairman of NBCUniversal International from 2011 to 2013 before becoming chairman, Universal Filmed Entertainment and eventually NBCU CEO in 2020.
The complaint was lodged within the past month, Deadline has learned. The matter went all the way to Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts through the...

Lark (Ayumi Patterson) is a quiet kind of person, observant, meditative. She’s never really pushed herself in life, beyond studying hard, so there is surprise when she falls in with the most popular older students in her postgraduate law school and is invited to go on a trip with them. Staying in a converted pilgrim-era chapel of the sort that people in the US think of as really old, she herself becomes a novelty because of her relative youth, but finds herself drifting along, observing, as the others connect and quarrel and do the sorts of things protagonists do. Awkwardly distanced as she is, and denied explanations of the things which initially seem important, she might ultimately end up understanding more about the dynamics of the group than its members do.
Hadley (Isabelle Chester) is the group’s queen bee, but she’s uncomfortable when, on arrival, she finds out that her.
