No two awards shows are alike: The 2024 Golden Globes Awards, broadcast on CBS on Jan. 7, increased its viewership by 50 percent over the previous year, averaging 9.4 million viewers. By contrast, the 29th Critics Choice Awards, airing on The CW exactly one week later on Jan. 14, averaged just 1 million viewers. That meant the Critics Choice Awards had around one 10th the viewership of the Globes.
But despite the smaller viewership of the Critics Choice Awards, luxury brands still racked up big numbers in media exposure for dressing stars at the show, as revealed in the latest findings of the 2024 Red Carpet Power Rankings.
At the Critics Choice Awards, the No. 1 fashion brand on the red carpet was Prada, which garnered a media-impact value (Miv) of $5.1 million, according to data revealed by Launchmetrics and The Hollywood Reporter in an exclusive partnership that is tracking the buzz that brands and stars generate on red carpets throughout awards season.

Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar is no stranger to events both starry and stylish, and on Sunday, Jan. 14, the 2024 Critics Choice Awards joined that list, offering up a plethora of high fashion amid the trophies determined by the voting body consisting of digital, print and broadcast journalists.
A variety of fashion trends carried over from the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, notably in the crimson-hued dresses worn by Dua Lipa, Abby Elliott and others. Rose details, seen on the custom Balmain gown worn by Margot Robbie, as well as with the rosettes that cascaded down the shoulder of Emily Blunt’s Giorgio Armani Privé gown were also notable. New trends that emerged at the 29th Critics Choice Awards included black as the dominant color in gowns, such as Angela Bassett’s Pamella Roland design or best actress winner Emma Stone’s custom Louis Vuitton. But voluminous white looks also ruled the carpet,...

A short competition player at this year’s MyFrenchFilmFestival, “Blue Fear” is the colorfully animated brainchild of filmmakers Marie Jacotey and Lola Halifa-Legrand, neither of which had any experience in the artform before working on the short together.
“Blue Fear” uses traditional 2D animation to tell the story of a couple on the roads of Provence, France. Nils is driving Flora to his parents to introducer her to them for the first time when they get ambushed. Flora is taken as a prisoner and Nils flees. A captive for an evening in the woods, Flora is placed face-to-face with her fears and doubts.
The short is produced by Miyu Productions and distributed by Miyu Distribution, executive produced by Emmanuel-Alain Raynal and Pierre Baussaron. The short has already enjoyed a stellar international festival run, featuring at Cannes, Clermont-Ferrand, Leeds, Anima, Ghent and Biaf, among others.

Sneak Peek "Birds of Prey" actress Margot Robbie, posing for "Es" Magazine, wearing Chanel, Molly Goddard and a whole lot more, photographed by Max Papendieck:
In "Birds of Prey", Robbie reprises her "Suicide Squad" role as DC Comics' 'Harley Quinn' for director Cathy Yan ("Dead Pigs") from a screenplay by Christina Hodson ("Batgirl"):
Along with Harley, "Birds of Prey" includes DC Comics' 'Black Canary', 'Huntress', 'Cassandra Cain' and 'Renee Montoya', with 'David Cain' as the big bad super-villain.
"I pitched the idea of an 'R-rated' girl gang film including 'Harley', because I was like, 'Harley needs friends' Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film," said Robbie.
"She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space...

Jodie Comer’s Villanelle astounded audiences with stunning designer clothing throughout Season 1 of BBC America’s breakthrough spy series “Killing Eve.” Who can forget the sight of her in that poofy pink Molly Goddard dress she wore to a therapy session, of all places? But the international assassin with a penchant for high fashion is on the run after being stabbed by Sandra Oh’s MI5 security op Eve Polastri, and she’s unable to maintain her luxurious style — at least temporarily — as Season 2 begins April 7.
“She is actually wearing the clothes that she got stabbed in by Eve, and as she slowly loses those things, she has to beg, borrow and steal things to wear,” teases Season 2 costume designer Charlotte Mitchell. (Phoebe de Gaye was the show’s first-season costume designer.)
Mitchell cleverly mines Villanelle’s sad fashion situation for laughs. One of her most ludicrous get-ups is a...

The "strong female character" – that dour lady kick-ass of pasty writer-nerds' dreams – may have finally met her maker at the hands of Villanelle, the adorably bonkers assassin of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's addictive BBC America series Killing Eve. As played by 25-year-old English actress Jodie Comer, Villanelle is a fresh, new face on the fictional psychopath scene – a cheeky, blithely amoral girl's girl with a penchant for nice clothes, a deep love of her craft (i.e. brutally murdering people against a variety of European backdrops in highly creative ways) and...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from Season 1 of “Killing Eve,” except for the finale.]
Actress Jodie Comer loved her patterned “Killing Eve” suit so much, she wanted to take it home with her and wear it. The only problem? It’s so indelibly linked to her assassin character Villanelle that she’d just end up looking like the killer herself. That’s perhaps not the impression she’d like to make in real life.
“It was super comfortable, I actually really wanted it but then by the time it got to the end of the show I was like ‘It’s too much,’” she said in an interview with IndieWire. “If I wore it on the streets I’d feel a bit weird. People would be like, ‘What the hell have you done?’ So better not, better just give that one up.”
