In a world where California's Los Angeles police department is being 'defunded' by multimillionaires, indifferent to the rioting and looting of businesses, homes and people in poverty-stricken districts, Sony Pictures "L.A.'s Finest", a crime-fighting cop, TV series spin-off from Jerry Bruckheimer's "Bad Boys" movie franchise, starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, will not be picked up again by Spectrum TV after two seasons, despite an outcry from fans of the series:
"...'Burnett' (Union), last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel, has left her complicated past behind to become an 'LAPD' detective.
"Paired with 'Nancy McKenna' (Alba), a working mom with an equally complex past, Burnett is pushed to examine whether her unapologetic lifestyle might be masking a greater personal secret.
"These two women don’t agree on much, but they find common ground when it comes to taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles.

A startling one-two punch of new statistics from the British Film Institute and industry body U.K. Producers’ Roundtable have revealed the stark challenges facing the country’s independent filmmakers.
After a BFI study published in late January revealed that spending on U.K. independent film production fell by 45% to £175 million ($228 million) in 2019, a recent U.K. Producers’ Roundtable report shows that many independent producers earn less than £6,000 a year for their film production work. After a BFI study published in late January revealed that spending on U.K. independent film production fell by 45% to £175 million ($228 million) in 2019, a recent U.K. Producers’ Roundtable report shows that many independent producers earn less than £6,000 a year for their film production work. Most had given up their producing fee multiple times to get their films made.
The unforgiving climate for independent filmmakers was last investigated in 2018 by a BFI commission, which put forward recommendations such as maximizing the value of rights as well as setting up more commercial development funding that involves private investment.
However, the new figures underline that the independent film financing landscape is only getting tougher.

The challenges facing U.K. independent producers have been laid bare in a survey that shows that many earn less than £6,000 a year for their film producing work.
According to the Producers’ Roundtable survey, 75% of independent film producers who have made one to two feature films earned less than £6,000 a year over the past five years from film producing. In total, 149 independent film producers were surveyed.
Meanwhile, 30% of BAFTA nominated/winning independent film producers earned less than £10,000 over the past two years for their film producing work.
Some 53% said they had given up their fee multiple times to get their films made, with 77% saying they had done this at least once.
Not surprisingly, 83% of independent film producers think being an indie producer in the U.K. today is not sustainable.

Pilots only have a couple of jobs to do, and when they're not done or done poorly, a new series can lose its audience quickly.
In the case of the new Spectrum Originals series L.A.'s Finest, starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, the pilot was barely functional.
Because I wanted to get some notes down, I stuck around until the bitter end despite my better judgment, and that's just when things got interesting. So, there is a plus side.
Union and Alba starring together in an offshoot of Bad Boys II sounds, at first, like a no-brainer. But the pilot doesn't establish them as partners nearly as well as it should have.
Oh sure, Syd and Nancy have the names that make them an immediate pair, but the dialogue between them is almost too witty. Their jabs and barbs don't sound natural, and it's not altogether easy to believe them as partners.
