Jeff Goldblum’s film career started in a particularly auspicious manner since his first four films were all highly regarded works of the early 1970s: “Death Wish”, “California Split”, “Nashville” and “Next Stop, Greenwich Village.” He continued to work in film and television for the next four decades and even returned to Broadway a few times, most notably in the highly regarded Martin McDonough play “The Pillowman.”
Along the way Goldblum has picked up a number of award nominations including an Oscar nomination for Best Live Action Short Film for “Little Surprises.” He received an Emmy nomination for a guest appearance on “Will and Grace” in 2005. He also was a nominee for Best Actor for two of the most prestigious critics awards groups for his work in “The Fly.” Both the New York Film’s Critics and the National Society of Film Critics named him as one of the top three actors of the year.

Consider this weekend the calm before the storm.
“Black Adam,” a comic book adventure starring Dwayne Johnson, loomed over box office charts for the third weekend in a row with 18.5 million in North American ticket sales. It was another quiet period at the movies as theater operators eagerly await Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which looks to invigorate the lackluster fall box office when it opens on Nov. 11.
After three weeks of release, “Black Adam” has generated 137.3 million in North America and 319 million globally. It’s a solid result, one that improves greatly upon another recent DC entry, 2021’s “The Suicide Squad” (which tapped out with 168 million globally while playing simultaneously on HBO Max in North America) and it’ll soon pass 2019’s Shazam!” (which earned 366 million worldwide). However, the latest Warner Bros. standalone superhero story still has ways to go to justify its massive 195 million production budget.

Martin McDonough's "The Banshees of Inisherin" is an intense, sad movie about the lengths one will go to to achieve peace during a depressed, turbulent time. Set on a remote Irish island in the 1920s, Brendan Gleeson plays a man named Colm who decides one day that he would really rather not be friends with his longtime drinking buddy Pádraic (Colin Farrell) anymore. Not that there's anything explicitly wrong with Pádraic. Colm just no longer likes him. Colm, it seems, has been more consistently pondering death in recent years, and seemingly would like to spend his remaining days on Earth free from warm idle chatter. Pádraic, being persistent, keeps on pressing Colm for a reason why he has been so brusquely and suddenly rejected. Eventually, Colm will threaten to cut off his own fingers, just to prove to Pádraic that he's serious. The film becomes darker and darker from there.

The Venice Film Festival once again looks like the place to launch the heavy hitters of awards season. As the world’s oldest film festival —unspooling on the island of Lido — celebrates its 90th year, it serves up a dazzling display of goods and stars, starting from its opener, Noah Baumbach’s black comedy “White Noise” — with Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig and Jodie Turner-Smith expected on the red carpet — to an impressive array of arthouse auteurs screening their latest.
Assembling the 2022 Venice lineup has been a long and complicated process for festival topper Alberto Barbera and his team. They started viewing submissions in November, several months earlier than usual, so in some cases they had to take the plunge without knowing what else would become available by showtime. The Venice selection process was further hampered by the ongoing pandemic, which continues to disrupt delivery dates and distribution schedules. “I admit...

Disney kicked off its CineEurope presentation in Barcelona today with 12 minutes of footage from July’s Marvel fourquel Thor: Love And Thunder, and throughout the show teased trailers and looks at its other upcoming titles including four never-before-seen scenes from James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way Of Water.
Ahead of the Thor footage, Disney’s Head of Global Theatrical Distribution Tony Chambers stressed the importance of immersive storytelling and the studio’s “robust, diverse slate” which kicked off about 60 minutes of footage that was then introduced by Emea Head of Theatrical Distribution Nick Rush and Emea Head of Studio Marketing Lee Jury.
There were pre-recorded messages from the likes of Marvel boss Kevin Feige who noted that even after 14 years it “feels like we’re just getting started.” Thor star Chris Hemsworth lamented not being in Barcelona for the sangria which “always tastes better” in the Spanish town as he...

‘The Sound Inside’ Broadway Review: Dark Days, Darker Thoughts & The Incandescent Mary-Louise Parker
Broadway doesn’t really do thrillers anymore. Unless we expand the definition to encompass the wailing banshees of The Ferryman or the occasional Martin McDonough blood drench, the stage has mostly ceded the genre to Hollywood. Yet that scarcity goes only so far in explaining the odd power of Adam Rapp’s The Sound Inside, a remarkable psychological mystery starring the ever-astonishing Mary-Louise Parker and her sole co-star, the up-to-the-challenge Broadway newcomer Will Hochman.
The word “thriller” might be misleading – The Sound Inside, directed by David Cromer with a hushed surety and opening tonight at Broadway’s Studio 54 – includes no obvious crimes, no hint of the supernatural or anything else we associate with bump-in-the-night tales. Rapp instead has written an intensely quiet play of two lonely people circling one another, each as wary of the other and both seeming to reach out more as instinct than plan. To say...

This striking hand-painted key art for Peter Brunner's latest, takes one of the most interesting visages, that of Caleb Landry Jones, and renders it in hand-painted abstraction, with emotion intact. Many of you are probably familiar with the hard-working actor who has a supporting and starring roles in features as varied as Neil Jordan's Byzantium, David Lynch's Twin Peaks: The Return, Jordan Peele's Get Out, Brandon Cronenberg's Antiviral, Martin McDonough's Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri, Sean Baker's The Florida Project, and Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. Caleb Landry Jones brings an unsettling edge to any project he is involved in, and the designers (who I have been unable to source) of the To The Night one sheet have an implicit understand of the power...

Jeff Goldblum has returned to one of his most successful roles with Dr. Ian Malcolm in the film “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.” Goldblum first played the character in the blockbuster film “Jurassic Park” back in 1993. The actor has had a highly successful career in film, television and theater for over 40 years.
Goldblum’s film career started in a particularly auspicious manner since his first four films were all highly regarded works of the early 1970s: “Death Wish”, “California Split”, “Nashville” and “Next Stop, Greenwich Village.” He continued to work in film and television for the next four decades and even returned to Broadway a few times, most notably in the highly regarded Martin McDonough play “The Pillowman.”

Tomorrow, ballots will be due for the 90th Academy Awards, with the results obviously to come on Sunday evening. Between now and then, voters will be rushing to turn in their final selections, with the remaining days a literal waiting game. The Film Independent Spirit Awards will be on Saturday, but they won’t be able to have any impact on the race. This is the clock at 11:59Pm, as it were. Final predictions of mine will come at the end of the week, with some further analysis in the lead up, but today, I’m doing something that a lot of sites do these days, which is to look at what an actual voter has chosen. Fun, right? Below you will see the choices that one member of the Academy has made. We’re going to get into how important or unimportant this is after, but we can start with this exercise.
