It’s been one year since Columbia Pictures / Screen Gems brought The Pope’s Exorcist (read our review Here), a supernatural thriller starring Russell Crowe, to theatres. Just two weeks after the film was released, our friends at Bloody Disgusting heard that a sequel was in development… but then things went quiet for a while. Crowe recently said that The Pope’s Exorcist was meant to kick off a trilogy, but the franchise’s progress had been slowed down by “a change of studio heads.” Things have apparently been worked out, though, because producer Jeff Katz of Worldwide Katz has just taken to social media to announce that the Pope’s Exorcist sequel has been given the greenlight!
Katz wrote, “Amorth Nation — I just got the call. It’S Officially Happening!!! “È un seguito, amici miei.”* Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride.

It’s been almost exactly one year since Columbia Pictures / Screen Gems brought The Pope’s Exorcist (read our review Here), a supernatural thriller starring Russell Crowe, to theatres. Just two weeks after the film was released, our friends at Bloody Disgusting heard that a sequel was in development… but everything has been quiet since then. During a recent interview with The Six O’Clock Show, Crowe confirmed that a sequel is in development – and that The Pope’s Exorcist was actually meant to be chapter one in a trilogy!
As it turns out, things have been quiet on the Pope’s Exorcist front because there was a behind-the-scenes shake-up with the studio executives, but it sounds like Crowe still has hopes that the trilogy is going to happen. He told The Six O’Clock Show (with thanks to MovieWeb for the transcription), “(A sequel) is in discussion at the moment. The...

While Warner Bros. continues to sit on his adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot, filmmaker Gary Dauberman has gone on to sign a first-look feature deal with Sony’s Screen Gems, where he is expected to “create projects for himself while curating a slate featuring established and up-and-coming filmmakers.” One of the projects he has set up at Screen Gems is the video game adaptation Until Dawn, which will be directed by David F. Sandberg. Now Deadline has revealed that Dauberman is going to be producing a film called Ushers for Screen Gems… and we have no idea what Ushers is about, because it’s based on a short story by author Joe Hill (who happens to be a son of Stephen King) that has never been published!

Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation, Shazam!, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg recently said that he’ll be returning to the horror genre with his next feature, which would be an expansion of a couple short films he previously made. Now we’ll have to wait and see if that actually does turn out to be his next feature, because The Hollywood Reporter has just broken the news that Sandberg is re-teaming with Annabelle: Creation screenwriter Gary Dauberman for a movie based on the horror video game Until Dawn! Well, either way, we’re getting a new horror movie from Sandberg.
The Hollywood Reporter notes, first released in 2015, Until Dawn is an interactive horror video game that follows eight friends and frenemies who are brought together a remote mountain retreat. With live or die scenarios featuring a mysterious killer, cannibalistic wendigos, a cable car, and a long-ago...

David F. Sandberg, known for “Annabelle: Creation,” “Shazam!” and “Lights Out,” will direct the film adaptation of the PlayStation horror video game “Until Dawn” by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions.
“It: Chapter Two” and “The Nun” screenwriter Gary Dauberman is doing the most recent pass on a script from “The Invitation” writer Blair Butler. The plot for the film is under wraps but is said to be an “R-rated and terrifying love letter to the horror genre.”
The PlayStation video game centers on eight friends trapped together on a remote mountain retreat — only to discover they are not alone. They must navigate dread and fear to make it through the night in one piece. The video game, which starred Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere in motion-capture versions, was named in Variety’s 2021 list of games that deserve movie adaptations.

The Rule of Three, a horror novel by Sam Ripley, hasn’t been published yet, but Screen Gems has already come out the winning bidder in a competitive situation over the film rights, and they’re working with Smile producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill to bring the story to the screen. The search for a screenwriter is now underway.
Simon & Schuster UK will be publishing The Rule of Three in June, and Deadline reports that Emily Bestler at Simon & Schuster US recently pre-empted US rights in a six-figure deal.
Sam Ripley is said to be a pseudonym for a well-established, bestselling British author “whose works have sold over a million copies globally.” Whoever they are, they have crafted the following story: Don’t forget The Rule of Three / It’s coming for you / Like it came for me. Can you change your own fate? That question haunts three women.

Viewers may recognize Ralph Ineson from his on screen roles in such films and TV shows as The Witch, Willow, Chernobyl, and Game of Thrones, among others – and if you’ve seen Ineson in action, you’ve probably also noticed that he has an awesome voice, which is why several credits on his résumé are voiceover roles.
