The first "Avengers" movie was supposed to incorporate Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), a lethal sharpshooter who works for S.H.I.E.L.D. and who, after being briefly introduced in "Thor," would have taken a much larger role in the superhero team-up movie. But then, after being on-screen for about 15 seconds, the character was hypnotized by Loki into doing his evil bidding and ostensibly written out of the movie until the final action sequence in New York City. That's when Hawkeye really shined... the other two hours of the movie, not so much.
So it should delight and surprise just about everyone that Hawkeye pretty much steals the show in this week's "Avengers" sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." As soon as it was announced that Matt Damon will be returning to the Bourne franchise in the untitled Bourne 5, fans have been wondering what that means for Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross from The Bourne Legacy. Will that character be simply erased from the fictional world? Will he get another adventure of his own somewhere down the line? Or will he actually get to be a part of an Avengers-style team-up that sees him working with Damon's Jason Bourne? According to producer Frank Marshall, it's mostly Option B, with a chance of Option C. Marshall - who has been an executive producer on the Bourne franchise since it launched with The Bourne Identity in 2002 - recently sat down for an interview with Collider, and when asked if Jeremy Renner was still going to be a part of the franchise going forward, the filmmaker firmly confirmed that he will be.

Bourne producer Frank Marshall has suggested that Aaron Cross will not team up with Jason Bourne in the next movie.
Damon is returning to the thriller series having played CIA assassin Bourne in the first three movies, while Jeremy Renner starred as Cross in The Bourne Legacy.
Marshall told Collider when asked about a potential crossover: "We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks.
"It was really the challenge of finding the story. If you look back five or six years ago, when we were maybe going on, we just didn't have a story. It's taken this long for us to come up with a story that everybody responded to."
Marshall appears to have changed his opinion, having previously stated in the lead-up to The Bourne Legacy's release: "You see there are several different [special ops] programmes...

Ever since it was revealed that Matt Damon was returning to the Jason Bourne franchise with director Paul Greengrass behind the camera again, fans were already hoping that there would be some kind of cross over with The Bourne Legacy franchise that Jeremy Renner stepped into in 2012. However, if producer Frank Marshall is to be believed, that may not happen at all. Though Marshall once said that Damon and Renner may be able to team up sometime down the road, a conversation with Collider indicated a complete 180 on that prospect happening as the producer says, "We don’t have plans for that." Read on! Of course, Marshall doesn't close the door entirely as he continues, "You never know. I never say never. But that’s not the plan. They’re on separate tracks." In a way that makes sense, but since both Aaron Cross and Jason Bourne have turned on...

"You see there are several different programmes in the movie with different skill sets. All possibilities are open. My dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up," producer Frank Marshall said, with a possible twinkle in his eye, in the lead up to the release of "The Bourne Legacy." That attempted spinoff was a disappointment both financially and creatively, and it left Universal, at least for a moment, with a franchise in trouble. Plans were still moving along for another installment starring Jeremy Renner, but then a miracle happened: Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass finally agreed to return for another 'Bourne' adventure, Renner's movie was postponed, and now it looks like Aaron Cross will be a distant memory for now. Chatting with Collider, Marshall has now switched gears entirely, and it looks like it's a Bourne-only world after all, at least as far as movies are concerned.

Producer Frank Marshall is out doing press this week at the TCA Winter Press Tour and has spoken about both the next film in the Jason Bourne franchise, as well as the long-gestating sequel to the beloved family adventure film "The Goonies".
As we know, the next 'Bourne' film sees both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass return to the franchise, and as a result the next film featuring Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross character from "The Bourne Legacy" is being pushed back.
Collider spoke with Marshall and asked if there is any plans for Renner's Cross to crossover with Damon's Bourne. Marshall says: "We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks."

I enjoyed about 65% of The Bourne Legacy, the Jeremy Renner-starring spin-off of the original Bourne trilogy. The entire third act was a complete joke, but I was with it up until that point, and I thought it did a pretty good job pulling back the curtain to reveal some larger scheming and machinations that had been going on during the events of the first three films. Universal was all set to put out a sequel to that film with Justin Lin on board to direct, but against all odds, they were able to convince Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon to return to reprise their roles as director and star (respectively) in a brand new Bourne film, so the Legacy sequel was pushed back.

Two franchises starring Jeremy Renner are apparently going in opposite directions regarding what they want to do with the actor. For The Avengers, Renner is likely to never get a solo installment with his Marvel character, Hawkeye. He’s going to just be one of the ensemble in the big Avengers-title crossover blockbusters, and maybe he’ll show up on a future episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (if my guess about his recent Twitter tease is correct) or possibly a one-off short film at the very least. Then there’s the Bourne franchise, which he temporarily took over from Matt Damon until Damon announced his return for another sequel. We kept hearing that Renner’s character from the spin-off The Bourne Legacy would be in more movies, but once Damon’s next installment became a reality there was more assumption that the two stars would wind up sharing the screen in a crossover. “We...

I think we are all at least somewhat excited for the return of Matt Damon to the Bourne franchise, alongside director Paul Greengrass. But if you were expecting to see an overlapping of Damon’s Jason Bourne with Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross character from The Bourne Legacy, you are going to be disappointed. According to executive producer Frank Marshall, that crossover is not going to happen.
Speaking to interviewers following a panel about an upcoming Sinatra documentary, Marshall discussed the future of the Bourne franchise, as well as several other projects he has coming up. The producer is happy to have managed to get Damon and Greengrass back together for a new Bourne film, especially given that neither seemed to want to return to the franchise initially. Released in 2012, The Bourne Legacy marked out a new path for the spy franchise that Matt Damon built, and it did so in the casting of then on-the-rise leading man Jeremy Renner. And while the movie didn't exactly set the world on fire when it was released, it was a good way to continue the series that Damon and director Paul Greengrass declined to return to after their successful trilogy capped off with The Bourne Ultimatum. For a little while, Justin Lin looked to be moving forward with the continuing adventures of Renner's Aaron Cross. However, if you've been reading the news lately, you know just why the sequel to Renner's Bourne continuation is in big trouble for the time being. Within Deadline's announcement of Lin's inheritance of the Star Trek 3 gig, they mention just how Justin Lin's schedule opened up to take over the sci-fi franchise after the...

The "Fast & Furious" franchise is a perpetual moneymaker for Universal, but could it be ready to hang up its racing tires? That's the new speculation from Deadline, which also writes that longtime "Fast" director Justin Lin is being courted to return to the series for its final outing.
According to the site, Lin -- who directed "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," "Fast & Furious," "Fast Five," and "Fast & Furious 6" -- is widely considered the favorite to direct "Fast & Furious 8," taking over from "Furious 7" helmer James Wan. Wan has already signed on to direct "The Conjuring 2," taking him out of consideration for the "FF8" job, and Lin is a logical replacement -- especially now that there's a gap in his schedule following news that his Aaron Cross movie with Jeremy Renner is being pushed to accommodate a new Jason Bourne film starring Matt Damon.

Director Justin Lin saved the Fast & Furious franchise, after Fast 6 was ready to move on after helming four films in the series. But because Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are now working on a new Bourne Identity movie, Lin's Aaron Cross spinoff with Jeremy Renner has been put on pause.
With Universal Studio now focused on its monster cineverse and many of the Fast & Furious cast ready to move on from the franchise, the studio has decided to wrap things up with a two part final chapter. Director of Furious 7, James Wan will be directing The Conjuring 2 next. Deadline is reporting that Lin, now with a gap in his schedule, is being tapped to close out the franchise he rescued. Nine movies is a lot more than people would have thought the franchise was capable of. I have enjoyed all but the second movie and I think it's time to end it.

Exclusive: Despite a lack of superheroes, Universal Pictures continues to bolster its franchises. The studio is going hard to revive its classic monsters franchises–I’m hearing that Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski is being courted to get the Wolf Man howling again, after Uni rebooted The Mummy–but the most intriguing scenario I’m hearing is that the door has been reopened with director Justin Lin and Universal’s most valuable franchise, The Fast And The Furious films. Lin bowed out after 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. He passed the baton and signed on to direct the second installment of the Aaron Cross Bourne Identity spinoff, and horror hitmaker James Wan took over and directed the latest film, Furious 7. A lot has happened since Lin left the Fast & Furious vehicle, the one that seemed out of gas before he took over and directed four films that brought back the original cast.

When the news arrived that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass had decided to return to the Jason Bourne franchise it didn't exactly seem like a sure thing as much as it seemed like the two were still waiting to give an official "yes" once the screenplay was completed. Well, it sounds like you can go ahead and ring the bell as Damon confirms in a red carpet interview with E! that he will play the character for a fourth time in what will effectively be the fifth Jason Bourne feature. It began when Ben Affleck, they were walking the red carpet for the fourth season of HBO's "Project Greenlight", said, "Well, Damon's going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So..." which led the E! interviewer to follow-up with Damon. "Yes, next year," Damon said. "It'll be in 2016 when...

Though the news ostensibly broke back in September, Matt Damon has now confirmed his return as Jason Bourne. "Yes, [I'm doing it] next year," Damon told E! News over the weekend. "It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes." Damon and Greengrass previously worked together on "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum," the second and third films in the long-running action franchise. A fourth entry starring Jeremy Renner as agent Aaron Cross was released in 2012, and a followup to that spinoff (set to be directed by "Fast and Furious" helmer Justin Lin) is reportedly still in the works despite being bumped from its July 16, 2016 release date by the Damon-Greengrass reteam. Plans were announced several weeks back that actor Matt Damon and filmmaker Paul Greengrass were potentially coming back to the Jason Bourne franchise. In doing so, it appeared to leave the in development follow-up to the Damon-less "The Bourne Legacy" in question.
Actor Jeremy Renner indicated last month that more 'Bourne' films with his Aaron Cross character are still in the works, something which Producer Frank Marshall confirmed. Both indicated a fourth Damon-led Bourne and a second Renner-led one were moving forward as separate entities at Universal.
In a new interview with Crave Online, Renner says the script for his film still being tinkered with and ultimately he'd love to see the two characters come together:
"No, it's still moving. Yeah, it's still moving. We have our director who's actually run off to do the True Detective series right now, and then while that's happening they're finishing writing the script.

When our exclusive scoop about Matt Damon returning to the Bourne franchise was confirmed a little while ago, many wondered what this meant for Jeremy Renner's spin-off series. When Damon and director Paul Greengrass seemingly concluded their run, Universal went full steam into The Bourne Legacy, with Renner stepping in a new lead character named Aaron Cross. The film failed to ignite a frenzy, but was still a moderate hit.
In a recent chat, while out promoting his new film Kill The Messenger, Renner confirms that his Aaron Cross is still very much alive and that he fully embraces the idea of his character crossing paths with Damon's Jason Bourne. "Let them be adversaries, let them become buddies, whatever the heck it might be, them coming together would be a pretty tremendous thing." The 43 year old actor also says loves the idea of Damon and Greengrass returning to the franchise.

And not long after “The Hurt Locker,” Renner landed in a handful of lucrative franchises. However, it seems Damon is poised to reclaim his starring role in the next Bourne film, which is slated for 2016. Renner is surprisingly excited about the notion, viewing Damon’s return not as a threat but as an opportunity to bring Cross and Bourne together on screen. I don't know about you all, but I hadn't really noticed until I wrote the headline above that Jeremy Renner has himself firmly entrenched in not one, not two, but three major franchises. I'd have thought one would be enough for most actors, but apparently, the more the better. Speaking of more (or in the case below, "bigger") being better, Renner had this to say about Avengers: Age of Ultron while making press rounds for his newest film Kill the Messenger (which is by all accounts decidedly not big): I think everything that worked in the first Avengers is exponentially going to be better in this one. I think the comedic relief, I think the action, is going to be bigger. But wait, there's more (and following the logic above, that makes it better). After existing under the radar for most of his career, Jeremy Renner became quite a hot commodity in Hollywood in recent years. Following his breakout role in Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker in 2008, then his subsequently well-received supporting role in Ben Affleck's big 2010 Oscar-winning movie The Town, Renner found himself on a lot of short lists. He became "the guy that's going to inherit the Mission: Impossible franchise from Tom Cruise," he- similarly- became "the guy that's going to take over as the focal point for a new series of Bourne films," and then he signed on to be part of Marvel's cinematic universe as Hawkeye. After griping, publicly, about wanting to play the character he "signed up for," following a very marginalized role in The Avengers, many wondered if the actor would perhaps like to see Hawkeye take center stage at some point.

Jeremy Renner, who is fiercely protective of his private life, finally confirmed that he and his longtime girlfriend Sonni Pacheco are married.
Jeremy Renner Is Married To Sonnu Pacheco
Renner, 43, revealed that Pacheco is indeed his wife during a recent interview with Capitol File. "I have tried to protect my family's privacy, my wife's privacy. I don't need her to get hammered with my life," says Renner, who wore a wedding band to a screening of Kill the Messenger. "Privacy issues are important because I want her to go about her day without being bothered."
Renner and Pacheco welcomed a daughter, Ava, in March 2013. The two-time Oscar nominee said that having a child in his 40s, after he'd achieved a certain amount of success in Hollywood, worked out well for him. "It's the best thing I have ever done – doing it later on in life. By then I achieved a...

Earlier this week came the news that Universal Pictures is in talks to re-team Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for a new Jason Bourne movie, their return to the series after a seven year absence.
It was said this film would take precedence over the second Jeremy Renner-led, Justin Lin-directed 'Bourne' film (following "The Bourne Legacy") which would be pushed back. The studio has yet to comment on the reports.
Now Frank Marshall, the producer of all the films in the series, tells THR that because no deals have been finalized they are still developing both simultaneously:
"We're on two tracks. And if this one [with Damon and Greengrass] comes together, great, but they're still just talking... [Bourne Legacy 2] movie is moving forward. It's still in development. We're working to get a script as soon as possible."

Damon and director Paul Greengrass are making deals with Universal to team up for a new Bourne film.
As the old saying goes, you can't keep a good government assassin down. Jason Bourne – and not Jeremy Renner's semi-confusing Jason Bourne analog – is coming back as Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are currently making a deal with Universal to reunite for a third time, according to Deadline.
This will be the fourth time Damon has stepped into the shoes of the titular trained killer, first playing him in 2002 in The Bourne Identity. Identity was directed by Doug Liman who handed the series' reigns over to Greengrass in 2004 for The Bourne Supremacy.
It was Greengrass who gave the franchise its iconic handheld 'shaky cam' look, which he used to acclaimed effect in the 2007 installment The Bourne Ultimatum, which was the last film Damon appeared in as the eponymous hero.

Apparently Universal is putting the planned sequel to The Bourne Legacy, which saw Jeremy Renner step in for Matt Damon in an attempt to keep the franchise alive, on the backburner as the studio has begun negotiations with Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum) and Matt Damon to return for what would be Damon's fourth film in the franchise and Greengrass' third. The report comes from Deadline, which says Universal intends to make the reteam the next Bourne, stepping in front of the spinoff sequel, which was previously assumed to be occupying a July 16, 2016 release date. It sounds as if that date will now go to this Greengrass and Damon sequel while a new Renner film, with Justin Lin directing, is still assumed to be in the works. There's no word on how the story will play out, but I would expect there to be some sort of...

When the credits rolled on The Bourne Ultimatum, we were all under the impression that director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon had told their story of super spy Jason Bourne, citing that there was no where to go creatively with the character now that his story was told. When Jeremy Renner joined The Bourne Legacy as a new genetically altered government pawn, it hammered home that the Bourne franchise was moving forward in a new direction. Now it seems that that direction may include a slight u-turn, with the news that Greengrass and Damon have found their story and that Jason Bourne is indeed returning. Deadline are reporting that Universal are eyeing the July 16th 2016 release slot they had assigned to an untitled Bourne movie, which we can assume was the continuing adventures of Renner's Aaron Cross with Justin Lin at the helm, that will play host to the Damon and Greengrass reunion.

Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon are returning to the world of Jason Bourne - and The Bourne Legacy sequel is still active, too...
Well, here's a turn up. For the last year or two, both director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon have appeared adamant that their Jason Bourne days were over. In particular, Greengrass was clear that, following his work on The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, that he'd taken the Jason Bourne story as far as he could.
Damon refused to return to the role if Greengrass wasn't directing, which ultimately led to Jeremy Renner being introduced for The Bourne Legacy, a film that talked about the character of Jason Bourne incessantly. The Bourne Legacy had problems, but when Universal then announced a release date of July 16th 2016 for Bourne 5, the assumption was it would pick up Aaron Cross' story, the character played by Renner.

Get ready for more shaky-cam adventures: Deadline reports that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, who helmed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, will reunite for another film in the Jason Bourne franchise. While both have said they would not be returning to the series — with Greengrass saying there was no place for the character to go now that he has regained his memory — it looks like they’ve changed their minds. According to sources, the reteam would be the next film to go into production with an intended release date of July 16, 2016, meaning it will move ahead of the spinoff sequel (to 2012’s The Bourne Legacy) starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross and directed by Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin. Now all they need to do is come up with a name for it. So ... Bourne Again?...

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are reportedly returning to Bourne, according to Deadline.
The re-team would mark the pair’s third collaboration in The Bourne Identity series, and Damon’s fourth Bourne film overall. The pair are reportedly in early talks at Universal.
Universal declined to comment. A rep for Damon did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
If the re-team pans out, it will likely be the next Bourne film to go into production in order to fill the July 16, 2016 release date that the studio selected for an untitled Bourne film. In effect, it will presumably...

It looks like actor Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are actually going to team back up to bring us a new Jason Bourne film. I honestly never thought this would happen as both Damon and Greengrass have had a firm stance on not returning to the action franchise after making The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. Greengrass kept saying no and Damon would say he wouldn't do it unless Greengrass was on board. Well, look at how all that's turning out.
The news comes from Variety who says the two are currently in early talks to return. Hopefully it all falls into place because I would love to see a new Bourne film with these two talents involved with it again. I didn't really care for the last movie made, which centered on a character named Aaron Cross played by Jeremy Renner.

In a twist worthy of the agent himself, it appears that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are making deals for a return to the Bourne franchise. According to Deadline, the pair is likely to slot in a Jason Bourne-focused fifth entry to the series in place of the developing sequel to the Jeremy Renner/Aaron Cross story. It’s something of a shocker, as both Damon and Greengrass have said on the record that they had no plans to revisit a story they felt they had already told. But then, they have both also mooted a potential return if the right script could be written and they could work together again, and it appears that that’s the case now.Universal, which has yet to officially confirm anything, is apparently so enthused by the idea of the pair returning that it wants them to have the film ready for...

Surprise! Jason Bourne is heading back to the big screen. Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are set to collaborate on a third "Bourne" film together, according to Deadline, contradicting previous claims by Greengrass that his involvement with the franchise was through (it's worth noting that Latino Review had the scoop on this story way back in June). The film will reportedly be done in time to make the July 16, 2016 release date previously slotted by Universal for the next untitled "Bourne" film, which was assumed to be the next entry in the "Bourne Legacy" series starring Jeremy Renner. The Justin Lin-directed sequel to that 2012 spinoff - which saw Renner starring as special agent Aaron Cross - is still in development, however, and the studio is said to be interested in continuing on with it even as they re-embark on the original series. “The problem with franchise films is, if you...

It might be hard to believe, but Universal Pictures has managed to convince director Paul Greengrass and The Bourne Identity franchise star Matt Damon back together for the fourth film in the series following secret government organization Jason Bourne. This will be the third time Greengrass and Damon have worked on the Bourne series together (Doug Liman directed the first film in 2002), and we never really thought the studio could success in getting the duo back together after they couldn't figure out a way to continue the story of Jason Bourne after The Bourne Ultimatum when the character learned about his past. Well, Deadline says that a story has been cracked and Universal is so excited about the prospect that the July 16th, 2016 release date that was meant for the sequel to The Bourne Legacy will instead go to this new Jason Bourne sequel. That likely means we won't see...

There had been rumours, but now a new Bourne movie actually starring title character Jason Bourne is said to be officially in the works at Universal. Both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass have talked about the possibility of returning for another instalment, though it seemed like it was never going to happen.
The franchise kicked off with the well-received The Bourne Identity, but the series found even greater success when Greengrass came in to helm the follow-ups The Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum.
The studio are in fact so keen on prioritising this team-up that they are planning on giving this film the release date originally set aside for the Justin Lin helmed sequel to the pretty uninspiring The Bourne Legacy which starred American Hustle actor Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. Bourne without Bourne if you will.

Even in the annals of unlikely filmmaker collaborations, we’re not sure anyone would have foreseen Chopper/Killing Them Softly’s Andrew Dominik writing a remake for Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin to direct. Yet that’s exactly what’s happening with Shaolin Temple.Dominik will write the script for the film, which takes as its basis the 1982 movie that launched Jet Li’s screen career. Based on Shaolin folklore, it’s set as the Sui Dynasty ebbs and the Tang Dynasty rises to power. When the Tang emperor is betrayed by one of his most trusted generals, the son of one of his slaves escapes to the temple, trains in kung fu and heads out to stop the traitor.Lin – who is currently focused on TV projects and developing the next instalment in the Bourne franchise – will tackle Shaolin Temple once his duties with Aaron Cross and co. are complete.

It’s been confirmed by Bourne producer Frank Marshall that actor Matt Damon will not be returning as Jason Bourne for the fifth installment in the series of espionage action films.
Damon starred in the original three films, based on the novels by Robert Ludlum, helping to make them an international success that changed the face of spy thrillers. Jeremy Renner replaced Damon as the face of the franchise for the fourth film, 2012′s The Bourne Legacy. In it he starred as Aaron Cross, a government operative who is part of a shadowy special ops program.
Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s simply not true,” adding that director Justin Lin “is working with Andrew Baldwin on an Aaron Cross script/story that they pitched us a few months ago.

Longtime Bourne franchise producer Frank Marshall has denied that Matt Damon will return for Bourne 5.
A report emerged last week that the fifth film had been delayed in order to allow Damon to reprise his role as Jason Bourne, alongside Jeremy Renner's Bourne Legacy lead Aaron Cross.

"I talk to Justin all the time and the script is not ready. It's a summer movie, and if we don't start pre-production now, we can't make next summer. Therefore, it's a wise decision to move to 2016."
Marshall has previously admitted that his dream for the next Bourne film is to "see Matt and Jeremy team up."

Perhaps it was inevitable, and maybe too good to be true. Latino Review has been on a hot streak of movie scoops of late, but perhaps their latest just got stymied. The rumor, as of late last night, was that the 5th Untitled Bourne Film, now delayed until summer 2016, was held over because Matt Damon would be returning to the fold as Jason Bourne to cross paths with new ‘Bourne’ franchise actor Jeremy Renner. Longtime Producer Frank Marshall has said in the past having Renner and Damon in the same ‘Bourne’ film would be his ultimate dream, but apparently that’s not happening for the next movie. "It's simply not true," Marshall told THR today, noting that Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross from “The Bourne Legacy” is still the main character here.
