On Christmas, Nathan Evans was a struggling 26-year-old musician who delivered mail by day in Airdrie, Scotland, a small town outside Glasgow. He needed a job that would allow him time to practice and also help support him and his wife during their first year-plus of marriage. Then, on December 27th, Evans posted a new tune on TikTok — an a cappella version of “Wellerman,” a sea shanty about whalers awaiting a resupply ship in the mid 1800s. (The real-life company that owned the boat was the Weller Brothers, hence the title.

On Sunday’s “American Idol,” two of the Top 5 contestants were eliminated: Laci Kaye Booth and Wade Cota. Although they performed at the top of their game, in the end their three rival finalists got more of America’s votes. That leading trio of vote-getters as revealed by Ryan Seacrest are: Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. (Vote in our ‘American Idol’ winner poll.)
This result meant that Laci and Wade fell just short of making the Top 3. We asked you which of these two talents to be sent home was robbed of a place in the finale next Sunday (May 19). By a margin of 56% to 44% “(as of this writing), “American Idol” viewers favor Wade over Laci.

Wade Cota has gotten to the top 5 on the ABC revival of “American Idol” based on his nine performances to date beginning with his rendition of “Work Song” by Hozier back on March 31. That cover did well when we asked viewers to pick his best song, earning a solid 16%. However, leading the way with 28% was Wade’s rendition on the Top 6 show of the Shawn James hit “Through the Valley.” And “Idol” fans liked his other song that night too as “With A Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles merited 17% of the total tally.
At the other end of the scale are some of Wade’s more recent efforts with his Top 8 cover of the Queen classic “We Are the Champions” registering just 2%. Also figuring in the bottom three are his Top 10 performance of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from “Toy Story” and his Top 20 duet...

In advance of the final five taking to stage on Sunday’s live “American Idol,” we wanted to know who viewers were backing to win season 17. Alejandro Aranda garnered a whopping 40% support in our poll. Laine Hardy, his closest rival more ways than one, is next with 31%. They lead out power rankings from best to worst and are all but certain to number among the Top 3 revealed by Ryan Seacrest at the end of the show on May 12.
Of the other three contestants, Wade Cota looks the likeliest to round out the roster of finalists. He has 15% of the total tally. The two women still standing — Laci Kaye Booth and Madison Vandenburg — did not break into double digits with 6% and 8% of the vote by “American Idol” fans respectively.

Laci Kaye Booth is almost certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She only made the final five on last Sunday’s episode when Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie decided to use their one judges save of the season to keep her in the competition. But she has earned only a measly 6% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into the Top 5 show on May 12.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Madison VanDenburg who merited a mere 8% in our poll results. All five singers still in the competition will take to the stage on Sunday to perform a trio of tunes. Each will sing a song from the Elton John catalog, another picked out by mentor Bobby Bones and a third in honor of Mother’s Day.

On the May 5 episode of “American Idol,” the Top 6 sang two songs each: one that was inspirational and the other from the summer of 1969 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock music festival. Four of the half dozen contestants made it through based on their votes from the public: Alejandro Aranda, Wade Cota, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. A fifth, Laci Kaye Booth, got the judges save while the other artist in the bottom two, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, was eliminated.
We asked for your predictions as to which of these remaining five finalists will go all the way to win season 17. “Idol” fans are divided between two of the artists: Alejandro Aranda has 41% of the viewers vote as of this writing and Laine Hardy is at 30%. While Alejandro is about where he was last week (40%), Laine has added five points to his total. Much of that support comes from fans of Jeremiah.

Sunday’s “American Idol” episode showcases the Top 6 who will sing two songs each: one that is inspirational and the other from 50 years ago. If the viewers vote along the lines of their responses to our recent survey, it will be the end of the road for the two remaining women in the competition: Laci Kaye Booth and be Madison VanDenburg. They earned a mere 6% and 8% respectively in our poll.
Two of the four fellows still standing also look like they could be in trouble: Wade Cota has just 12% of the vote count while Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon sits at just 10%. Adding together the support for these four contestants comes to 36% of the total.
That sum is easily eclipsed by Alejandro Aranda, who has registered an impressive 38%. His closest competition, Laine Hardy, has risen to 26% of the vote to date.

Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie opted not to use their single save of the season to throw a lifeline to one of the two eliminated contestants: Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu (Which of these was robbed of a place in the Top 6?)
The six leading vote-getters were: Alejandro Aranda, Laci Kaye Booth,, Wade Cota, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. Which of these remaining half dozen contestants do you think will win season 17?
Take a closer look at each of these artists in the photos above and review the roster below of the songs they’ve sung to date as well as their celebrity duet partners in the Top 24 round. Then vote in our winner poll at the bottom of this...

Alyssa Raghu is all but certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She was the last artist revealed to make the Top 8 on last Sunday’s Disney Night episode. And she has earned only a measly 2% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into Queen Night on April 28.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Walker Burroughs who merited a mere 3% in our poll results. Each can only avoid elimination if they are saved by judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie who can invoke this power just one time in season 17.
All eight singers still in the competition will take to the stage on Sunday to sing a song from the back catalogue of the band Queen and then do duets with each other on classic movie tunes. Of the other six,...

The “American Idol” Top 8 will sing Queen songs and also duet with another contestant on a movie tune as they vie for your votes on Sunday April 28. Only six of them will make it to the next stage of the competition and continue on in their quest to be crowned season 17 winner. Early favorite Alejandro Aranda, whose audition video went viral, is far out front in our viewers poll. But while he still takes a commanding 39% of the total tally, Laine Hardy has jumped up to 22% support.
The only other contestants to crack double digits in our power rankings are Wade Cota with 11% and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon at 10%. Laci Kaye Booth and Madison VanDenburg each have a lucky 7%. The two contestants all but certain to be sent eliminated on Sunday’s show are Walker Burroughs (3%) and Alyssa Raghunandan (2%).

Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu are likely to leave “American Idol” this Sunday according to our survey of viewers. They rank the lowest among the Top 8 with Walker earning only 3% of the vote in our poll while Alyssa is last at 2%. They will only avoid elimination if they are saved by the judges.
Of the other six singers still in the running, only two others — Laci Kaye Booth and Madison VanDenburg — look like they are vulnerable. Laci has just 6% support while Madison is at 9%. Combined, these four contestants have earned just 20% of the total tally to date.
Compare that to the 22% of the vote racked up by Laine Hardy. The clear frontrunner remains Alejandro Aranda, who has a whopping 39% of the total. The other two contestants — Wade Cota and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon — are each at 10%.

Some aspiring musical heavyweights decide to slim down before trying out for “American Idol.” Season 16 runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson started dieting before the audition rounds and managed to shed 85 pounds by the time of the finale. Meanwhile, current top-20 hopeful Ryan Hammond dropped 170 pounds last year after undergoing weight loss surgery.
But at least two male winners, Season 13’s burly rocker Caleb Johnson and Season 2’s soulful “Velvet Teddy Bear” Ruben Studdard, who was granted his nickname by guest judge Gladys Knight, didn’t have any problem fitting into their role as the next American Idol.

Ed Sheeran and the artists who've contributed to The Fault in Our Stars' soundtrack have discussed their involvement in the Ya movie.
Sheeran's recorded the song 'All of the Stars' for the album, with an accompanying music video released last month.
"Life-changing experiences and life-changing love, they happen rarely. But when they do happen they do put things into perspective," Sheeran said of the film's story about cancer patients Hazel Grace (Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort).
Charli Xcx contributed the "epic, dreamy romantic love" song 'Boom Clap' as the lead single, while Birdy's 'Not About Angels' and Grouplove's 'Let Me In' are also on the compilation.
Other acts on the album include Jake Bugg, Kodaline, Lykke Li and M83.
The Fault in Our Stars opens in Us cinemas today (June 6) and June 19 in the UK.
