Daniel Campos and Spencer Susser (Hesher) were the winners at Tropfest last night with stop-motion animation Shiny.
Judges Mel Gibson, Simon Baker, Rebecca Gibney, Don McAlpine, Jocelyn Moorhouse and Maya Newell awarded first prize to Shiny despite it running for less than four minutes (Tropfest allows seven). It also won two Tropfest Craft Awards for Sound Design and VFX.
Nick Baker and Tristan Klein won second prize for the animated Postcards to Ulay, while third prize went to Rick Donald for The Atm.
A $3,000 prize donated by Nicole Kidman for best male actor went to Rick Donald for his role as Frankie in The Atm, and to Natalie Bassingthwaighte as best actress for her performance as Sarah in Why Would I Lie?

Tropfest founder and director John Polson tapped Liev Schreiber to host the first Brooklyn edition. The star of the brand new Showtime television series Ray Donovan had a show of support from partner Naomi Watts earlier in the evening prior to the screenings. On the firing line were the judges, Academy Award winning producer Fisher Stevens for The Cove, screenwriter Charles Randolph, writer Malcolm Gladwell, actress Lake Bell and Wnyc host Leonard Lopate who were seeing the films for the first time on a monitor.

Tropfest 2013, the world's largest short film festival taking place in Prospect Park, concluded this past Saturday with Australian filmmakers Tristan Klein and Nick Baker taking the top prize for their film "The Unlikely Maestro." The short film beat out 15 others for a $20,000 prize and a "week of meetings" with notable executives and producers in L.A. All films were created specifically for Tropfest, following guidelines including the use of the "Tropfest Signature Item" (Tsi), which this year was "Bridge."
