Black-ish star Jennifer Lewis called former President Donald Trump the new “Hitler,” who will put black people “in camps.”
“This motherf—— is Hitler,” she told Zerlina Maxwell, the host of Mornings with Zerlina on SiriusXM.
She also added, “He will punish everybody that didn’t vote for him.”
Lewis expressed her exasperation with apathetic voters. “We spend half our lives choosing, trying to make a choice on bulls—. What movie tonight? Let me sit here for a half hour. No bombs going off. We do nothing. We sit on our couches. ‘Oh, I don’t believe in voting.’ You f—ing idiot.”
Lewis claimed that Trump’s rise to fame in the political world is due to the fear of many white people of minorities.
“Black people don’t want to fight you,” she said. “All we want to do is feed our children and be equal. Honey, White people are scared.

Tiffany Cross didn’t want to leave MSNBC, and feels she has more to do.
The outspoken weekend anchor, whose show was cancelled earlier Friday by the NBCUniversal-owned cable outlet, said in a statement Friday night that her freewheeling, outspoken style was on the mark for a disruptive era in politics, and indicated she would continue her work elsewhere.
“I am disheartened to learn of MSNBC’s decision to cancel my show, ‘The Cross Connection,’ at such a crucial time — four days before the midterm elections,” Cross said, while spotlighting the program’s ratings. “And we were intentional about centering marginalized voices of the rising majority — from all communities of color.”

Tiffany Cross, the MSNBC weekend host who was known for running the freewheeling Saturday commentary program “Cross Connection,” is leaving the NBCUniversal-owned cable-news outlet.
Her production staff was informed of the decision Friday morning, according to three people familiar with the matter. MSNBC declined to make executives available for comment, and Cross could not be reached for immediate comment.
MSNBC decided not to renew Cross’ contract after two years, according to one of these people, and severed ties with her immediately. Zerlina Maxwell is leaving MSNBC.
Maxwell, one of the first anchors to launch an all-streaming program for the NBCUniversal-backed news outlet, announced her departure on social media Tuesday. MSNBC decided to cancel her program last month, marking some of the first cutbacks to its streaming ambitions. A program led by Ayman Mohyeldin was also canceled, but he is expected to remain as a weekend host on MSNBC’s cable network.
Executives had hoped Maxwell, a Democratic activist and former campaign aide to Hillary Clinton would stay on in an analyst role. But she appears to have declined. “My last episode of @zerlinashow on 9/15 next week will also be my last day at @msnbc,” she posted Tuesday. The anchor thanked her production team for the ability to use our show and my voice to put the spotlight on black and brown communities that are not often considered in mainstream conversations.

Kendis Gibson, a veteran anchor who worked most recently for MSNBC, is jumping to a new role at CBS’ Miami station, Wfor, where he will anchor the morning and noon newscasts.
The move shows ViacomCBS bringing in new local staffers under Wendy McMahon, co-president of the company’s news and stations unit, and Gibson says he welcomed the chance to take on a wider range of reporting than he was able to do at MSNBC, where he was anchoring early mornings on weekends. “I wanted to get away from working in the hyper-partisan 24/7 political news space,” he tells Variety. “This is a good chance to anchor a newscast that covers the full gamut of the news cycle which I love, including world news, entertainment news, human interest stories and stories important to local communities — and in an awesome city with a big commitment to local news from the top down.

Symone D. Sanders spent a good portion of the past two years of her life touting the accomplishments of the Biden campaign and administration to TV-news personalities. Come Spring, she will be one of those pundits.
MSNBC has hired Sanders, who at age 32 has already worked as a media strategist in two different presidential campaigns and as the senior press spokesperson for U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, to anchor a program that airs on cable during the weekends and on streaming video during some other days of the week. Chuck Todd and Kristen Welker hope to learn a few things by anchoring an Election Night special in a year when there really isn’t supposed to be a special Election Night.
Voters won’t decide on November 2 who wins the White House or whether Republicans or Democrats gain control of Congress, but Welker and Todd will lead coverage that evening which could prove to be a harbinger for programming to come: a two-hour streaming show, “Meet The Press: Election Night Special,” on NBC News Now that will examine the ins and outs of important gubernatorial, state-level and local mayoral elections.
“We are doing an Election Night for people that really care about Election Night, that really care about why this person is winning, what’s going on here,” says Todd, in an interview.

MSNBC and the WGA East have reached an agreement to hold an election to determine whether the writers and producers on all of the network’s shows want to be represented by the guild. The election, which will be supervised by the National Labor Relations Board, involves 315 writers, producers, booking producers, fact checkers and planners at every program airing on MSNBC and on Peacock’s The Choice.
Ballots will be go out on July 20, and must be returned by August 17.
The network’s writers, producers and support staff unionized with the guild last month, when more than 200 members of the bargaining unit signed a petition to recognize the guild as their bargaining representative – which is more than the majority needed to give the guild the right to begin negotiations for a first-time contract.

“We need to get extremely brave,” said Jane Fonda, the legendary actor who has spent her 80s fighting for climate change reform.
At the Emily’s List fourth annual pre-Oscars event on Tuesday, “The First but Not the Last,” Fonda gathered virtually with Regina King, Lucy Liu, Samantha Bee and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham on a panel moderated by Zerlina Maxwell. The panelists discussed the importance of Emily’s List’s mission to elect democratic pro-choice women into office and what it means to be a woman in power.
Chelsea Handler, who joined forces with the organization four years ago, opened the event by detailing Emily’s List’s recent accomplishments, including helping elect the first Muslim and Native American women to Congress, as well as the first female vice president, Kamala Harris.

Lucy Liu could teach a seminar in what living intentionally in Hollywood looks like. The Elementary actress joined other powerful women, like Regina King, Samantha Bee, Jane Fonda, and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for a conversation with Emily's List on April 20. During the "First but Not the Last" chat, Lucy opened up about what she looks for when choosing a role, how she's outgrown the industry's competitive nature, and how the coronavirus pandemic made her feel more powerful in the end.
Lucy's body of work spans decades, including several different iconic characters. As she told moderator Zerlina Maxwell, this breadth of roles and projects is intentional. "Choosing characters is something that I want to keep varied for myself as an artist," Lucy explained. She seeks to explore the world outside of her own "microcosm" and prioritizes staying true to herself above all else. "We don't want to just...

Four progressive Peacock talk hosts expressed strong reservations about “platforming” Republican guests on their streaming shows in the currently divisive political and media atmosphere.
Mehdi Hasan, Zerlina Maxwell, Michael Smith and Michael Holley, on a virtual TCA panel during Peacock’s winter press tour day, tackled the topic that has become increasingly relevant. The lively panel reflected how unsettled the matter remains in the aftermath of Donald Trump’s presidency.
Hasan, host of Peacock’s The Mehdi Hasan Show and also an MSNBC contributor, poured cold water on the idea of inviting Republicans on his show. While he insisted he relishes debate, citing a recent on-air “row” with conservative former U.S. national security advisor John Bolton, he said it is a “supply-and-demand issue.”
The supply aspect rests on the question, “Do Republicans want to come on a show like ours when they have their own safe space of right-wing...

Still in the heart of its first year as a platform, Peacock draws plenty of attention for its library of originals that audiences have come to know through the greater NBC family of networks.
As Peacock builds its growing slate of originals, its talk shows are one area where viewers are never quite sure what to expect. Speaking to the Television Critics Association virtual Winter Press Tour on Wednesday, a group of the platform’s on-air hosts said that’s exactly the way they want it.
“This show, it’s my name because it’s who I am as a person,” said Zerlina Maxwell, host of the evening talk show “Zerlina.” “I’m a political animal. I’ve worked on campaigns, I care about politics because it affects every single aspect of our lives. But the show is going to be an eclectic mix because that’s who I am as a person.
