The original 1994 adaptation of The Crow still has a huge, loyal following, so there was already a certain amount of scepticism surrounding Lionsgate's decision to develop a reboot. When the first trailer was released, that apprehension turned to outright disgust for a lot of fans.
Are people being a little quick to judge based off a single teaser? Perhaps, but for many, Brandon Lee will always be the only Eric Draven, and that's all there is to it.
Total Film interviewed Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who played heroic cop Sergeant Daryl Albrecht in The Crow, for the Goth classic's 30th anniversary, and the actor admitted that he's only recently been able to revisit the film due to the tragic accident that ended Lee's life during filming.

In news we absolutely did not see coming, Deadline reports today that Nicolas Cage (Arcadian) and FKA Twigs (The Crow) will be leading the cast of The Carpenter’s Son, which is said to be “exploring the rarely told story of the childhood of Jesus with a horror take.”
Noah Jupe and Souheila Yacoub will also be starring in the upcoming film.
Deadline notes in their report this afternoon that the film from director Lofty Nathan (Harka) has “taken inspiration from the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas for the screenplay. Dating back to the 2nd Century Ad, the text recounts the childhood of Jesus.”
Here’s the official synopsis:
“The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers...

It can’t rain all the time…Even less frequent are 30th anniversary celebrations. But this month, Cinemark will be honoring one of the best films of 1994 — which is really saying something — by releasing The Crow back into theaters for a special engagement.
Cinemark recently announced that Alex Proyas’ adaptation of James O’Barr’s gothic comic series The Crow is being resurrected for the big screen on May 29th and 30th, just two weeks after its official 30th anniversary. The presentation is part of the “Scream Greats Series” courtesy of Paramount Scares and Fangoria.
The Crow would take in $50.6 at the domestic box office, positioning it as one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies of 1994. On opening weekend it grossed $11.8 million, making it number one, no doubt partly due to interest in the accidental shooting death of star Brandon Lee, whose own father Bruce also died prematurely (at 32). There’s anticipation to see how Bill Skarsgård will portray the iconic character Eric Draven, yet there is also angst from those who believe the 90’s flick should remain untouched.

Without Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, would the Marvel Cinematic Universe have become such a global phenomenon? As the charismatic actor played a big part (perhaps the biggest) in the success of Iron Man, it’s easy to imagine the film crashing the entire franchise before it even began had another actor starred in it. While Downey Jr. bid farewell to the Marvel franchise with Avengers: Endgame, could he ever be persuaded to return as Iron Man?
“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Robert Downey Jr. told Esquire. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.“
As the MCU isn’t in tip-top shape at the moment, the idea of bringing Downey Jr. back must be appealing, but Kevin Feige has said that they wouldn...

Alex Proyas, director of the original 1994 film The Crow starring Brandon Lee, has spoken out against Rupert Sanders’ upcoming remake.
In a since-deleted Facebook post (via Variety), Proyas wrote, “I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [The Crow] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That’s how it should remain.” Proyas’ post also contained a link to an article titled, “The Crow Remake Trailer Gets Staggering Amount of Dislikes on YouTube.”

One could say that the reboot of The Crow (1994) was simply cursed. Going through ups and downs ever since its announcement, no one knew if the film would even come to fruition. However, after years and years of setbacks, the reboot will finally be released this year, albeit without Jason Momoa. Actor Jason Momoa was all set to play the lead in the reboot, which he stated was his dream role.

Unfortunately, due to some differences, Jason Momoa had to walk away from the character he had dreamed of playing for eight years. Not only did the actor say goodbye to the reboot, but director Corin Hardy, too, packed his bags and left. Taking to social media, both Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy put out their sides of the story.

The Crow, the forthcoming movie directed by Rupert Sanders, has been the talk of the town since its announcement in 2022. The action-thriller is a reimagining of the same-titled 1994 Alex Proyas film, featuring Brandon Lee in the lead role. With its top-notch cast and storytelling, the $94 million movie was a huge box-office success and struck a chord with the audience. Now the official trailer for Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming flick has further piqued the viewer’s interest.
However, some of the most disturbing information regarding the movie—which will hit theaters on June 7—has just recently come to light. In just one day, the trailer garnered a whopping 53,000 dislikes on YouTube, in contrast to just 42,000 likes. These figures put a serious damper on the movie’s potential to do well at the box office.

After more than 15 years of development hell, the reimagining of “The Crow” will finally hit theaters this summer.
“The Crow” is based on the indie comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr that was originally published back in 1989 by Caliber Press. 30 years ago in 1994, a film adaptation of the comic book by visionary director Alex Proyas was released into theaters, perhaps better known as the movie where star Brandon Lee was accidentally shot and killed on set during the middle of production.
Miramax stepped in and spent $8 million to pick up where production left off and finish the film. “The Crow” went on to gross $93.7 million at the box office against its $23 million budget, and the film eventually became a cult classic. Three lackluster sequels and a television adaptation would follow, however the property had always been earmarked for what current distributor Lionsgate is calling a reimagining.

The story was immortalized in Alex Proyas’s 1994 film starring Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed on set by a prop gun.
Sanders’ reimagining of The Crow, which stars Skarsgård as Eric Draven/The Crow and FKA twigs as Shelly, is set to hit theaters on June 7th, 2024.
Skarsgård most recently appeared in John Wick: Chapter 4, and will also soon be seen Robert Eggers’ upcoming gothic horror film, Nosferatu. Meanwhile, FKA twigs is teasing...

If you were a teenager in the 1990s (like me!), few things mattered to you like The Crow. The 1994 film captured goth/grunge cool. From its origins as an indie comic book to its legendary soundtrack to its tragic production, The Crow captured the mood of a generation.
Which is to say that the first look at Bill Skarsgård in the upcoming remake of The Crow might be a bit of a shock. And if you were a teenager in the ’90s, your heart isn’t what it used to be, so you might want to sit down. Have a look at the first image of Skarsgård as the titular anti-hero…

The exclusive first look at Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven / The Crow in the eponymous supernatural superhero film has been unveiled, and the similarities of his get-up to that of a separate live-action iteration of another comic-book character haven’t gone unnoticed. After years of finding its way through development limbo, The Crow (2024) is set to be a reboot.

Helmed by Rupert Sanders and starring singer-songwriter FKA Twigs alongside Skarsgård, fans have long wondered if this modern-day big-screen rendition of the character will live up to Brandon Lee’s 1994 film, which was a cult classic and remained largely unrivaled by the three other films that followed it.
The first few reactions to the latest unveiling have suggested that Skarsgård’s metamorphosis into the anti-hero parallels Jared Leto’s Joker in the catastrophic Suicide Squad (2016). The resemblance is quite uncanny.

30 years after it debuted, The Crow – starring Brandon Lee – is getting a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release in the UK. More here.
The latest example of a movie anniversary to make some of us feel really rather old? That’d be 1994’s The Crow, a film I remember driving through pouring rain to go and see. Famous of course for being the final movie of Brandon Lee, who died in a tragic on-set accident, it’s the best recreation of James O’Barr’s The Crow character on screen to date. A fresh take is due in cinemas this coming summer.
Before that, though, there’s the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut of 1994’s The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas and co-starring Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott and Bai Ling, the film was an R-rated comic book film at a point where that wasn’t even a contentious thing to be.

Exclusive: Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas will be delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The move comes as John Wick architect Chad Stahelski has inked a new deal with Lionsgate to oversee the franchise. He’s working with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.
Advance tracking is already hot on Ballerina, Lionsgate just wants to make the feature, produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road even better. Currently, the Ballerina stands alone on her new summer 2025 date.
Now, there’s nothing for exhibition to fret, for the Rupert Sanders’ redux of The Crow will be taking over Ballerina‘s summer date of June 7 this year. Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of The Crow in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.

Spyder Dobrofsky is probably not a name you would expect to see credited on Christmas-themed TV movies, but that’s exactly how Dobrofsky got started out, working on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away. When he made his feature directorial debut, it was on a movie called Spiral, which was something you’d expect to see a Spyder credited with: a mystery thriller. Now Deadline has broken the news that Dobrofsky is working on a holiday horror movie called Down Below… and he has assembled a solid cast for the project. The legendary Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) stars alongside Bai Ling (The Crow), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), and Doug Jones, who is best known for his creature (or heavily made up) performances in films like The Shape of Water, Hellboy, and Hocus Pocus.
